astronomical GPU prices?

You poor hipsters with your still supported video cards  Some of us are beyond due for an upgrade.

One day I hope to see these kind of prices on ebay....

How do they even make enough to justify such a purchase? Seems like a weird sort of gold rush.

you know, those could be empty boxes.

Guess Biff and Muffie's e-peen and e-clit must be about max now--at least in their minds. A wise person once told me to "believe nothing you see and only half of what you hear". Sage advice that becomes more pertinent as technology advances--anyone can post anything and have it appear as reality.

i have watched many video's where the store staff and managers are MORE than happy to sell ALL stock to a single customer.

yet i try it once.. and have to open up a new micro center account and give the stores address as my mailing address

Well, I just payed thru the nose for a Vega 56 card, but I want to run my freesync monitor and 1440p is so far beyond the RX 580's capability that its kind of laughable. I'll just sell the 580 I got for cheap to offset the Vega card I guess.

Id love to get into bit coining if stuff would stay the same. Currently your $1000 1080ti makes $1000 every six months, in december it was making $2000 every six months. Scale that up to a $100,000 rig and you would not have to work. However god knows what the cost of a coin will be in six months, and what the difficulty curve will be.

The way I put it was that I need it to make $500 in 3 months. Then I cash out, because at least I can get $500 for it when I have to junk it. So in 3 months I get my money back. Everything else is a bonus.

When my 1 1080 Ti made $50 in 1 week with on and off mining, it just pushed me over the edge to build the damn rig.

That's in Dec right when it was paying higher?

Ive got a ti on water and another coming tomorrow that's a hybrid and a 1080 card as well.. feel stupid not doing this if it can bring in 450+ a month between the 3 cards.

Where did you get your Vega56 from and do you mind if I ask how much you paid?

Times were good in late Nov/Early December.

I got a XFX Vega 64 Limited (Silver) Edition for $499.

When you scale something to 100's of GPU's, you run into other problems. E.g. electricity (most residential houses have a 200A circuit, which about 100A goes to the AC/Kitchen/laundry) and heat.

damn I'm glad I built this pc when I did. this 1070 is $600 now, was $300. I feel bad for people looking to get a new card. I would check local retailers.

I got one thru best buy for $799. About double MSRP I think. I had a $100 best buy girt card to use so that made it a little better, and I can sell the RX 580 I got for $120 for maybe $300 so that cuts it down a little too. Way too much still but if I want to game on a 1440p Freesync screen the 580 just absolutely does not cut it, its slower than christmas. I have a 3GB 1060 as well and that card is like 40% faster in PUBG with the same settings.

Lots of cards coming up in the FS/FT forums here. Still at inflated prices but that bubble seems to be bursting here soon. :)

It is going to be summer not too long.

All the folks who are running crates / open-air rigs will be looking at those AC bills.

I should have built one earlier. Having hard time to find CUDA-capable GPUs at reasonable prices. :(

ding ding just in! bitcoin down to $7K!

checked ebay, new listings;

two listing of bulk hoarded RX 580s that were selling like hotcakes @ $100 a pop, poof deal done for just about 10-15 minutes, got dang good luck on those buyers though!

I also bought 8 cards. They haven't arrived but my ROI has gone up from 6 months to 9 and seems to be worse by the minute.

:) I cant wait for the flood of cards, so i can scale up. I knew it was the right time to sell my 1080s. My goal is 16 Vega 64s but ill take 1080tis too. Im going to mine and hold for the next pump and dump. I expect will be around black friday if old patterns hold true.

People are so fucking stupid. Everything has to be a scam. No one wants to do any legitimate work. Fucking losers.

With another 10% drop in bitcoin and ethereum the majrity of so-called miners will be flushed out and their will be a huge glut of used Vega and 580;s on the market. New prices will fall down to list and maybe below list. Also ddr5. ddr5X , and HBM2 production is ramping up quickly. By the end of March memory prices will be dropping significantly. These two factors of glut oif used product and excess production will lead to a buyers market for about 6 months maybe longer. I am looking forward to getting a second vega 56 reference so I can put it under water like my first one or by a factory cooled Vega 64 and runi it togrther with my custom cooled Vega 56. That should increase my fps at 4k by at least 40 fps . Just waiting for the big price drop.

Willing to bet none of that happens.

Sadly, like oblox, I very much doubt any of what os2wiz said will materialize. I´d love to eat my words though.
