Hey guys,

i just played the Destiny 2 Demo and have to say that i really like the gunplay in the title. Now i usually only play single Player games, and usually not FPS but Destiny 2 has really good feeling when it comes to guns.

Which other single player FPS games are out there with a decent campaign (please do not suggest older games like HL2 or System Shock - yes i know those games are great, but i can't bring myself to look at those graphics anymore).

Single Player FPS Games i already have:

Borderlands Series
Bioshock series
Serious Sam series
Metro Series
Stalker Series

Mind you, i do not care about Stealth or anything wall running parcour related, i like decent gunplay. Also, i dislike Horrorgames entirely. To me, the essence of FPS is good gunplay and not stealth mechanics, not wall running or something like that.

Setting would be best near future or modern times, but i am flexible there.

Anyone have a good suggestion?

The new Doom is one of the best single player fps's released in the past few years. It's not a horror game, it's a pure action fps.

I just looked at the screenshots and it sure looks like a horror themed game to me.......

Then don't play it.

Titanfall 2 is decent enough for a modern FPS, but unlike Johnked6's recommendation, I'll ignore your requirements since it does have wallrunning.

Honestly, I like it. It is not like Tron: Evo where wallrunning plain didn't work, or later CODs where wallrunning was largely a gimmick. It is functional, seamless, and it adds value (verticality, namely) to the gameplay. It was clearly forced in at a couple of points, but beyond that, it doesn't ask much of you when it comes to wallrunning.

It's gory, but it's a fast action packed game with a demonic theme and everything that comes with that visually, great game though.

I also quite liked Rage, it's getting a bit old now maybe, but that should help it's price :p
Crysis series is also nice and decent lenght.

Yeah Doom really is as much a horror story as the bioshock series is. Just gorey, but in a pretty over the top kind of way.

If you haven't already, play the most recent Wolfenstein games. The Old Blood, The New Order and The New Colossus. The first two are a few years old (but still look great) so they can be bought pretty cheap. They are all mechanically great shooters but they have, genuinely, some of the best story-telling in the FPS genre I've seen in years.

EDIT: And for what it's worth I'm not a horror genre fan but the new DOOM game is pretty amazing. It's not really horror per se, just can get a bit gory.

Titanfall 2 is great.

And half life 2 still looks pretty solid especially with mods.

I also really enjoyed the first crysis.

Doom (2016) is no where near a horror. Glorious adrenaline driven shooter but certainly not horror.

Wolfenstein: The New Order you can get for pretty cheap. Great gameplay. Great story. Longer than most FPS.

Titanfall 2 was a nice surprise for me.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will probably hit the Wolfenstein games first, i forgot about them. Maybe Doom later if i decide that the theme doesn't turn me off much.

Sadly, the genre isn't exactly booming. I miss the late 90's boom of single player shooters. The new Doom is amusing, but it's more of a random twitch shooter rather than say...FEAR, Prey, Half-Life, etc. where the game is still plot-focused.
Hopefully that genre makes a resurgence. Just about all of the good story shooters are 3rd person these days.

Wolfenstein the new order is a good one. Don't get the latest one. Pretty bad.

Wolfenstein:NO is good.

Doom 2016 is a must play, especially if you like older FPS. There is no genre to decide on, it is just a great run and gun FPS, that happens to have demons and monsters.

I'm going to throw Battlefield 1 into the the mix as well. It has a very short, but decent SP game. I would not buy it, but it is worth paying the $4.99 for Origin Access. Frankly so is Titan Fall 2, wall running aside.

That being said, as you can see based on the repetitive recommendations, the SP FPS landscape is pretty dismal.

It was bad compared to new order imo. I was really disappointed. Not trash though. True enough.

UT2004, still my favorite, especially Citadel (nowhere to hide)... yep... very old, and I don't mind. The good news it that you can play it in HD using most Intel CPUs.

With that said, I have no idea if it will even install under contemporary Windows, but still works in Linux after all these years.

I realize you have Serious Sam already. have you tried the new HD edition? Much more than updated graphics. More of a total reboot.

Another two thumbs up for DOOM (2016). While graphic, especially the glory kills, it really is a must try if you like fast paced FPS. And don't rely on the demo to give a good feel of the game. It just scratches the surface. If you run an AMD card try using the Vulkan API. Really ups the performance.

The Arcade mode drives it home for me. You get all weapons, upgrades and full map access instantly. Replaying through same levels over and over trying to best my own score constitutes majority of my time with the game now.

Prey (2017) is another good one. Less emphasis on shooting. More on exploring and figuring out puzzles. All within a decent sci-fi story.

Oh also, give Super Hot a go. It is extremely short but is a great FPS for both abstract gameplay and story.

I have not tried the HD edition from Serious Sam yet, i might look into it. Just today i was able to grab a Steam key for Shadow Warrior 2 from Humble Bundle for 50% off and i can get both "older" Wolfenstein Titles for less than a movie ticket, so i might grab them too. CoD and Battlefield were odd suggestions imho because they focus on Multiplayer and i did not feel their single player to be really great for a couple of years now.

Yes, i agree with you 100%. Story first person shooters seem mostly gone and have been replaced by either 3rd person shooters or Multiplayer FPS with added-on single Player campaign.

Deus Ex Human Revolution & Mankind Divided
Wolfenstien The New Order and its sequel
Far Cry 3/4
Prey - Although not a lot of shooting

Some good 3rd person action games to, but if you want FPS only then there are not too many decent options these days.

I'll go against the rest and say Doom was extremely lame. It was so boring I had to turn the difficulty down halfway through and just rush through to the end. I just wanted to finish it. I'd only say it is average because it ran great, had almost no bugs and looked fairly decent. Technically an excellent game, but the gameplay itself and lack of story was crap.

Wolfenstein New Order is a fantastic game.

The New Colossus might not be as good as The New Order but it's nowhere near "bad".

OP, just get it on sale from GreenManGaming or something.

I agree, it is a solid game. The Hitler scene alone is worth the price of admission imo.

I would also recommend Shadow Warrior 2, had a ton of fun with that one.

Actually, while getting older, Call of duty:Modern Warfare has a pretty decent SP game. The newer onea for sure have SP included as an afterthought. Battlefield has always been more MP focused so the SP portion has always been short and kind of boring. I never would have purchased BF:1 for the SP, but was worth the $5 Origin Access price.

What also sucks is that some gamea which could be great SP FPS games have been made into 3rd person games like Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands. That game should be first person all damned day, but then you wouldn't be able to see your precious flair you get to earn/buy.

You might try Hard Reset - I think they released a version with updated graphics not terribly long ago. Supposed to be pretty good in terms of classic FPS action.

Yep, came here to recommend this little gem. It surprisingly holds up well for an indie title and I got my money out of it.

Ghost Recon:Wildlands whoops.... someone mentioned that this is 3rd but... ima leave it here.
Far Cry 3/4

Doom (2016) is only a horror game when viewed from the perspective of the demons. I too would be horrified if a single space marine was eradicating my entire hellspawn of a family!

+1 for Shadow Warrior 2. Awesome FPS with great semi-open world mission structure and great loot & level up system.
