Subnautica any good?

I watched a streamer play this. Lots of crafting/foraging. Looked like a $10 game to me.

Not the best insight, but it's a HORRIBLE game.

Without a tutorial I say this game make no sense. But if you're willing to watch video on Youtube to know how to play maybe you could have some fun.

yeah. It appears to be a little janky. Maybe with some more polish. I like the idea.

From what I've seen, its like a typical survival/crafting game, only with a really unique underwater twist. It's a must-buy if you get the hibijibis from deep oceans.

Figured i'd bump this.

The game deserves more recognition. It's not just a 'typical survival/crafting game'.

You can just screw around if you want, but the game begins, and it ends along with having kind of a cool story you piece together while playing.

I'd generally say it's one of the best survival games to come out since it actually has a way to 'win' the game and is very well developed. Considering you can pick it up for hardly anything i'd hope more people give this game a chance. It finally finishes development on the 23rd and the 1.0 update basically enables the final piece that allows you to 'win' the game.

yeah can't wait til the release patch since i'm basically done with the game in hardcore mode.. will probably start over once i'm able to reach the end game after the patch.

Well after 2 years, this one really shaped up into a gem. What a turnaround

The game is pretty solid to be honest, tricky and pretty fun in VR if you can handle the motion. I would suggest it, if you like survival/crafting games.

This is one of the few games where hardcore mode is worth playing for me. It really forces you to be more careful in exploration and build more bases in the different biomes, and the challenge of getting to 1000ft below becomes a real challenge without being able to save scum/respawn after death.

The game will leave EA soon, I heard. Does it will come with a good tutorial to understand it all?

there's a basic guide system but most of it is pretty self explanatory.. there's also a crap load of guides you can look up that are better to use so you can figure things out as you play the game.

The game generally has a 'story' in the normal survival mode. It teaches you everything you need to know over time, and various 'distress calls' kind of point you in good directions to find new stuff. Ultimately I suggest not looking at any guides so some of the cooler things of the game remain a surprise.

Interestingly, this is the first and only game (VR and non VR) which caused VR motion sickness to me. I've even turned on walking in Arizona (that famous zombie game, it's turned off and teleportation activated because it causes motion sickness), but I didn't get any motion sickness in that game. I don't even feel sea sickness when I'm on the sea. I've even tried roller coaster VR and even done it in real life. Enjoyed the crap out of it and didn't feel sick.
But Subnautica made me feel sick for hours. Maybe my body just doesn't like diving :)

The game is fantastic though, especially at 4k and 50" screen :)

The motion sickness is not surprising knowing that it was a game that had VR added to it. It is even worse when I play the game Vanishing of Ethan Carter VR, all it takes is turning to the left and I'm roasted. I can't play that game but a few seconds before motion sickness kicks in, it is another game that was normal FPS turned VR. Any game with locomotion I cannot handle.

Started a game on Survival Hardcore last night. Having a good time so far. Haven't played Subnautica in a few years. Playing at 3440x1440, game works in ultrawide flawlessly now. I remember a few years ago the scuba mask was cut off so I hardly put any time into the game because it drove me crazy. Playing the game blind, haven't played it more than the few hours I did a few years ago, never looked into it much either.

Was watching a LP and didn't see the game give you any instructions once you emerged from the sub the first time. How do you know where to start?

You know, back on the day, people didn't need tutorials. Sometimes you just need to wander around and figure stuff out.

Just started playing, I think it's fun as hell! Lots to figure out though.

Managing inventory is a pain in the ass and so is eating and drinking but whatev.

It's self explanatory. Think of what you need to survive then build it. It tells you the thing in the pod that you need to use to build with. From there it lists all the blueprints and required materials.

As others have said, its somewhat self-explanatory but I admit that some things can be a bit opaque. For instance, they recently changed how multiple air tanks work when diving - you have to manually swap them out on your person/paperdoll screen - having them in your inventory is not enough! Likewise, certain items can be somewhat difficult to find but there are some little hints of guidance - for instance, as soon as you find Copper (found in limestone "bumps" deposits, along with Titanium), make the handheld Scanner item. After that, SCAN EVERYTHING. When you point towards an item that has yet to be scanned, it will show an icon of the scanner in the bottom right corner, so now is the time to wield it and scan to 100% completion! Note that scanning items - especially high-tech items that have obviously fallen from the spaceship, will give you new patterns (ie Seaglide). Whenever you have scanned something, when you get someplace safe open your tablet and look in your Database - it will likely give you a hint about what certain items, creatures ,or objects can be used to do (ie for the Bladderfish, it will say "May be useful for water filtration" or something like that).

I suggest repairing the Lifepod ASAP - in order to do that you need a Repair Device. Most of the items necessary for it are not hard to find, but "crash powder" (I think it is still called that), is found in caves near the Safe Shallows. You'll find angry little suicide-bomber fish when you go into certain caves, no doubt - these are "Crashes". Onces the fish has blown himself up, go find the little "flower" that was his den and that will be the source of the Crash Powder!

I haven't gotten very far myself especially since the 1.0 version and there ahve been some changes. Lots of things are kind of trial and error and/or not well explained but sometimes exploring is part of the fun. Note that the deeper you go things quickly become....dangerous, we'll say! Oh and when you reach the Redgrass Plateau (right off the safe shallows, but deeper), the big "Reefbacks" (which the name is self explantory) are harmeless. They might spook you but they are like giant whales or manta rays coasting along with an entire ecosystem on their backs There are lots of dangerous things and lots of large things (in some cases the large things are really dangerous...in some cases its the small things) but in this particular case (the first really big thing most people find) is harmless.

I like it so far. Bought it a few days back, and have 7 hours into it. It definitely has a different feel than other survival games because of the heavy water aspect. It reminds me a bit of The Long Dark, with water instead of extreme cold.

I have my issues with the game (technical, mostly) but this game probably has the best feeling of exploring a truly alien world that I've yet experienced. Everything from the oppressive feeling of being deep underwater, to the crazy creature designs (and their sound effects,) to the excitement of not having any idea what could be around the next crest is just awesome.

Can you dismantle bases? The place I built my base now has radiation, which pretty much means I need to wear the radsuit constantly the radiation happened right as I was getting off for the night, so I didn't bother trying to dismantle. I built my base in the deep area between the crash site and the green area with plants. I been working on finding the Seamoth parts, haven't completed that yet. Also anyone know if I have to go check the distress signal to finish the Seamoth, I seem to be stuck, I was actually working on building it to travel out there in the first place. Been playing it safe since I'm on hardcore and already put in about 4-5 hours.

Yes, you can easily. Go up to it with your habitat builder tool, and the option to dismantle will show on your UI.

That's what I figured, but I've been surprised in some other games where they don't have that as an option for whatever reason. Now it's just a matter of unloading my lockers and moving, might need to build one of those floating storage units that I thought I probably wouldn't need.

I'm having a helluva time finding all the pieces to the cyclops and prawn suit.

I still can't find all the pieces for the Seamoth, traveled significantly further today visited the first distress call, found 2 pretty big debris sites on the way to the Sunbeam landing (never ended up reaching it yet because I was running low on power on my Seaglide and didn't bring an extra battery) and still no luck with Seamoth fragments, only have 1 from the first crash site I found yesterday.

I suggest trying to listen to dialog more. You don't need to move your base..

Yea I noticed radiation creeping out more and more since the explosion so I didn't even bother moving the base, just been wearing the radiation suit. I might try to patch the leaks, I just haven't went to the Aurora yet because I'm not sure if it is a dangerous biome yet, I'll check it out tonight and see.

Frankly it's difficult as hell to get anything going without a map. Beacons are great and all but christ the amount you'd have to craft to cover everything would be nuts.

But man do I love this little game.

Just got my Seamoth, also have a 2 Cyclops fragments scanned making good progress today. The game is so good, will be playing this weekend for sure. Already put 7 hours into it the last 3 days. Expecting to put a lot of time in since I know I'm nowhere near completion.

I bought this early access 2 years ago, and I still go back to it regularly. Now the final version is out I may do a legit play through. The atmosphere alone is worth the price imo.

It really is a fun game but i keep telling myself never to buy ea ea games as when they finally foco out i forget about them/lost interest in them

Unknown Worlds now has a solid track record of releasing feature complete games. They were doing the early access / kickstarter thing really before anyone else did with Natural Selection 2. Whatever they do next i'll be supporting day 1.

I'm to the point now where it feels like I've explored every damn wreck and still haven't scanned enough for the cyclops or prawn suit. Now I feel like the only way to be sure is to beacon EVERY wreck, which is what I'm going to do today.

Also, I've read people talk about seeing stuff below 1000 meters, I haven't found anything past like 700 or so, so I guess I'm missing something, and to clarify, once you get to the end of the map in every direction it just falls straight down right? I went down to roughly 1000 in a few spots and found nothing.

The game will take you beyond 1000m depth, but the void areas are not where it happens.

Prawn Info:
Have you gone inside the Aurora yet? You'll need a propulsion cannon, laser cutter, and fire extinguishers. I found each of the scans for the Prawn in the Aurora's Prawn hangar. Bring an extra fire extinguisher or two and put out the fires. You can scan several of those suits and gain credit each time.

Cyclops Info:
Hull: Floating Item, Mushroom Forest, and I think one of the areas with the big walking tripods. The hull fragments can easily be mistaken as part of a wreck area itself though as it looks kinda like a big piece of bulkhead.

Engine: Big ass cylinders. Around the Aurora, the underwater islands, and mountain areas.

Bridge: I recall finding a few in the same areas I found the hull with the big tripods. Mushroom Forest as well

The Subnautica Wiki has a great amount of info on where you can find various components if you're willing to go check it out. Just be very careful as the articles can quickly spoil the story.
