Worth it

Would it be worth it to go from a i7 7700k to an i5 8600k? My pc is purely a gaming pc I would like to try a Rysen but my current ram doesn't appear it would be fast enough. My ram is DDR 4 2400. I would probably have to buy DDR 4 3200 which I think is way to expensive for the AMD cpu to work properly.

No, it's not worth it. Is it faster? Slightly depending on your application, but probably not worth the cost to upgrade.

Hopefully the new Ryzen+ CPU's have a little bit better memory compatibility out of the box. They are only 2 months away or so. I wouldn't feel the need to go rush out and upgrade a 7700k though.

Thanks it is sometimes hard to decide especially when new stuff comes out. I'll wait until Rysen becomes more compatible with slower memory.

great video, worth watching the whole thing but around 11mins till the end is what you asked

But no its not worth it even for 3yr old intel 4c/8t cpus for gaming, and for gaming ryzen is still slower for lower resolutions

I watched the whole video and I see it's told me to hold on to my current cpu and maybe see if I can up my memory from the 2400 Mhz to the DDR 4 3000Mhz. The i7 7700k seem to like it.

Ryzen compatibility with memory has nothing to do with memory speed unless you want to start using more than four DIMMs. It works fine with 2133MHz through 3200MHz or more.

BTW their review was weird a bit. It's the only site that showed the difference between 8600k/7700k and 8700k was more than just a couple fps. Back to the topic though, even they showed 8600k is basically identical in performance to 7700k. I have a microcenter with 8600k open box for 199, but need to resist and wait for octacore mainstream cpu :D

The i5 8600k isn't tested, but it would be between the i5 8400 and the i7 8700k.

Still rocking a 4820k oc'd to 4.2-4.4ghz here with 32gb of RAM and couldn't be happier with that end of it. Next upgrade will have to be a video card, my ol R9 280x is getting long in the tooth, even for high setting 1080p stuff.

It's only certain games and they run high speed memory, idk but look up there other vids they seem solid.

Just enjoy what you have, its fine. Faster ram is better even for your 7700k but probably not worth the cost to upgrade right now. Swapping out to a Ryzen or an 8700k is not worth it from a 7700k.

I agree . The more I read the more I see no real reason to change anything.
