The Division - officially announced for PC!

I haven't played this game since 1.6, but some of Marco's videos are drawing me back in. I don't have any Classifieds, most my items are GS 265-275 and I'm clueless about what makes a good build anymore, but if I can find a group to play with again, I may rekindle the grind.

It sounds like DZ05 and up is still the best place to farm, or the new Resistance mode. The few times I've jumped in to check out the new stuff I've ended up running solo for most of it, all my old friends have moved on or are WAY ahead of me. Anyway, guess I'm just looking for any tips that could help a returning player.

Im in the same boat frrak, the new pve is kind of making me curious to see some new content but im so far behind

As far as the PVE goes, if you had decent builds around 1.5-6 you'll be fine. Hop in. It's probably a bit rough without Classy sets in PvP unless you have a really tuned up hex. Course optimizing if you have a horde of div tech will help that part too.

So far I have all of my builds optimized and have classified sets for all that are available, the only thing I’ve been farming for is a big Alejandro. Been doing DZ runs and living in the underground for weeks.... nothing yet :(

I love the premise of this game, but it is BORING as fuck to play against sponges.
+ I hate looting games and "crafting" weapons...

I blew $25 on the game & have actually been enjoying this guys youtube video 10x more than playing the game.

Feel ya, I’m missing a Big Al and a Devil. I still have some classified pieces that are missing some correct prims or secondaries but have been doing fine other than those. My lone star set is mostly garbage, just didn’t get many pieces of that one.

I've had a few Devils drop in the Underground the past few days. The Big Al seems impossible to find.

Well clearly this type of game isn't for you.....not sure what to tell you? I love this game and have played it since launch. It's the only game that keeps me coming back. There is so much to do i.e. the Underground, DZ, Survival, Skirmish, etc.

If you dislike the basic mechanics of the game then clearly you made a mistake and should have known this before buying it.

Yeah, I should have watched more of the critical reviews vs the fan boi reviews, but I really wanted to like this game because the scenario is compelling.

I've only played 4 hours so far & the first 2 hours were with 2 other people who were first timers like me. They were clueless but I figured out the map & missions to get us to the cut scenes and at least they had mics so we could communicate. My next 2 hour stint was with 2 mute foreigners who couldn't even text chat in English.

My biggest complaint is the pre-game rooms. Nobody seems to know how to use the matchmaking (maybe I don't either) or join my team when I TAB > invite.

I'll give it a few more hours and hope I can team up with someone that has more stuff figured out + a mic and can give me a little direction...

I like the game a lot for what it is but I do agree about how I wish there was a little less of this bullet sponge thing going on. It defies suspension of disbelief after a point.

I understand why they had to go a bit in that direction for the concept they were going for but I wish there was a middle road between this and Ghost Recon Wildlands where guess what? You hit some dude with a high powered AR to their head, no matter how well armored..they're dead! ;)

I've done very little PVP.

Always shoot from cover and be in cover as much as you can. Take the time to learn about your skills and abilities and use them.

The new PVE modes are nice to round things out. The way Underground is structured now is a bit more user friendly and I've gotten a lot done thanks to Undergrojund

The new Resistance areas have grown on me. I've had some real fun in that with random people. I always just set things the way I want and hit quick matchmaking and take the first invite that hits me. I've rarely had a bad time.

I don't have a mic on. It's never been a problem.

What I like about this game is that it's structured in a way where screwing around doesn't do any good. Unless you're in the wild west Dark Zone and people go Rogue you can't grief or screw anyone and they can't screw you. Everyone is there with you to kick ass and win and there's only so many different ways that can be done. It's not rocket science. ;)

So that's I'd recommend if you want to try and get things going for yourself assuming you're finished with story mode. Plus: Learn to love Lexington. Max it out and grind it. It's still the quickest grind up the ladder, all told.

Completed this game's campaign for the first time today, it was quite enjoyable from start to finish. I picked up the gold edition on sale one month ago, and played it casually for a couple hours everyday (uplay says 62hrs) - taking my time absorbing the sublime recreation of a post disaster, devastated NY city. The best way to enjoy this game on your first playthrough imo is to take it slow and don't rush the leveling up process, it's not your conventional RPG.

While playing through the campaign I took the time to complete the side missions and most of the collectibles which usually have minor character and world building stories attached to them. Also dabbled a fair bit in the 1-29 Dark Zone (didn't go in the end game one yet), which did have its frustrating moments but was more enjoyable than I expected it to be - though the lower playerbase population might have something to do with it. Must have been chaos back when the game was at it's height of popularity.

The end game now has an impressive range of content to choose from, some from free updates and some from the expansions. If the game had released in the state it is now, it would have no doubt been a bigger hit while retaining a much larger active playerbase. Too bad most have moved on as the game right now is quite solid and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an unconventional RPG in the form of a third person shooter.

What my completely unoptimized character looked like after beating the last mission:

Drexion My guess is that you're around a gear score of 200~230? Just keep digging into the LZ bosses, Underground, & do missions on Hard/Challenging if possible to build it up. (y)

I agree with Drexion, if you surrender yourself to the game and allow yourself to become immersed in it, it's fun to just roam the streets and do your thing.

That being said, the bullet spounge thing really is a bitch. The game needs a hard core mode that ramps up the lethality to near realistic levels and that lethality needs to work both ways.

As I mentioned above, I really love the premise & scenario of this game & I really tried to like it but I just don't.

Even after getting better weapons (went from level 4 to 12 one afternoon w/ a level 25? friend - 9 hours total), the bullet sponge & repetitive dumbass AI just ruin it.

I did enjoy going thru more of the story, but my buddy was basically doing a replay so we blew thru some stuff pretty fast that I would have liked to explore more, but I doubt I will go back through... I probably won't even play this much more.

While it's a response to you it's not directed at you, I've never understood how people don't see the game as a reskinned RPG. Simply because it's modern prevents people from seeing it for what it is. Personally, I think everything to do with modern shooters involves too few bullets to kill anyone on top of everything being too accurate anyways. There's zero tension to gunfights because they're over and done so fast. To each their own, of course, but I'm glad it isn't like the rest of anything involving guns over the last 10 years.

That being said, I think it would be interesting to see a real hardcore mode. Especially if you could do Survival on top of it.

I have a hard time equating this to Witcher 3 or Skyrim (RPG's)...

I guess I was expecting this to be a lot more like Wildlands.

If you've played Wildlands, you know that most missions are not over & done so fast!

Yeah, I don’t get the problem of suspension of disbelief on bullet sponges. I do all the content in the game and have zero issues with the ttk. It was rough during 1.3ish I think but these days it goes down directly related to how good your build is, which seems exactly as it should be. We regularly three man everything. That’s two dps and one support style character. They can’t be that tough to kill. Neither of my buddies that do the dps toons have classified sets either so it’s only going to get easier.

To each their own though, I didn’t care for wildlands. Preordered it and only played it for a few hours. Lots of games for everyone.

diableri you just said a magic word that I never really considered RE: this game - others have said it & I've read it elsewhere - but it just "registered" in my brain RE: "how good your build is" and how you guys see this as - or why this is referred to as - an RPG shooter hybrid. Your build really matters for this game whereas I played at least 1/2 or maybe even 2/3 of Witcher 3 with a stock or pretty "plain jane" build by just using stuff I picked up.

Over the weekend, I basically just following my level 22 (?) buddy around with my level 4~12 build so I could level up & see more of the story progression.

Eventually I realized that I could hardly kill anything with my 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000 dps rifles because the enemies were all level 22 and had something like 4000+ dps. At least, that is how my buddy described it after we realized that since he started the game / missions - I was fighting above my weight class.

Ah man, yeah the game doesn't account for the lower leveled players in the group. There's no way you're going to have a good time in that setting; makes total sense. That's what you do after you've leveled once or twice already.

I really think the intention for the game is for you to play through the campaign with your level players or solo and then group most everything else at world tier 5 and level 30 with a bit of solo at that point when you don't have all your buddies on.

Ragequit the game last weekend. I was level 17 and was getting destroyed on a level 14 mission (the enemies spawned were lvl 15). The trash that spawned was easy, and the first two bosses were ok, but for some reason the third boss decked out in a ton of armor just kicked my ass repeatedly. I finally finished the mission after about 3 deaths. Figured that was just some dumb mission and proceeded to a lvl 14 encounter. This encounter caused me to ragequit because I could only take 2 hits before I was near death, yet headshot after headshot against bullet sponges. There's no way I can keep playing that game if content below my level is too annoying to do solo, and a lvl 14 encounter should not be that hard at 17.

Do you have anyone to do co-op with? The game will scale a little with two players but should make it a ton easier.

I think his point is he shouldnt have to get help to kill something 3 levels lower than himself. The solo side of the game is challenging at times. Quite challenging. I had the same problems when I went through it the first time. You shoot something in the head with a full clip it should die. Its infuriating when they just put a couple shots into your body and you die quickly but they can survive a full clip into the head. This game has always had this issue.

if you are having issues then you need to look at your gear and make sure it is all recent, anything more than a few levels old needs to be replaced.

It's too bad people can't transfer you credits. I'd be happy to give you some, it makes leveling up much easier. If you can do co op, people can give you gear to sell, so you can keep upgrading your gear.

No, the only gamer friends I have are all on X1, because somehow they can play FPS with a controller. I also don't like grouping up with randos, I'm anti-social IRL and in games haha (except D3).

Yeah, afaik my gear was recent. I rage-uninstalled so I'd have to reinstall to check it. I am actually going to give the game another shot this weekend.

I got a Big Al in the weekly Underground cache, fuck yeah

Does anybody know if the House is strictly dropped in the DZ? Haven't been so lucky with exotics in DZ lately. Want this weapon more than an Urban MDR

Also, whatever happened to the two DMR/Bolt(?) snipers Devil and Heel? Haven't read anything about them since the last PTS over a month ago.

I've gotten pretty good at soloing pier 93, opening 3 caches and getting tier 2 cache. This morning I got a Damascus, and I kid you not, another Damascus.

Thanks Massive.

squishy, what do you find so compelling about this game if it's not the grind (I hate grinders do not like this game much at all)?

Does the story keep going to unfold some major drama that keeps it interesting?

Endlessly reloading & shooting sponges in the face is not interesting to me & I am not "invested" in the story.

edit: I swear that I was actually replying to a post where you said BUY don't GRIND. wtf?

edit 2: my mistake - I had a tab open for RB6 Siege and intended to reply to this:

For me it's the setting especially during the blizzards.

And also that I can disconnect modern cover shooter gameplay from the root RPG elements and accept it for what it is. I'm sure part of the problem is that you played Wildlands before this much as my problem with Wildlands (aside from the absolutely trash voice acting scripts) was having played the Division beforehand. They're similar but with entirely different approaches. I can play games like Wildlands and enjoy them for what they are as far as the one hit kills, etc, but the Division is, first and foremost, an RPG, regardless of anything to do the fact that guns are in play and it's a modern setting. RPGs don't need to follow a mold you think they should to be an RPG.

If it's that much of an issue for you to suspend disbelief (kind of the root of most forms of entertainment) I don't understand why you continue to play. Searching for a reason to like something is just delaying the acceptance of "this doesn't work for me."

It's really hard to see this as a RPG since all you are doing that is remotely RPG-ish is "crafting" weapons.
There aren't even NPC's to interact with that move the story forward, it's all just scripted.

Honestly, I really loved the premise & the environments & wanted to love this game but the gameplay just sucks.
~ I quit playing 10 days ago w/ 9 hours logged.

I'm currently playing Splinter Cell 1 & Rainbow Six Vegas 2 so I get the best of both worlds - stealth solo'ing + "team" tactics.
~ I've been on a total Tom Clancy game kick lately.

I'm actually very glad the Clancy games are so different from each other & think it is worth discussing my POV so other gamers will know that this game is very "different" than the rest...

I was hooked after reading the book before the game came out. Game came out and was actually interesting if heavily flawed. They very slowly fixed 2 things and broke a new one until we've arrived here. I think I have 1400 hours in now from being a beta player, three kitted out characters and one trash/whatever character. Would throw money at them for expansions, more character slots etc. Will preorder Div 2 if/when. Been fun, no complaints for the pittance $/Time investment. Very few games have ever pulled off that kind of value.

Course, I have two regular group members as well which might be a huge part of the fun/enjoyment but that hasn't kept us from ditching other games quickly (wildlands/destiny2/wow).

Naw, this book can’t be done audio. It’s written over multiple different time periods. One is the book itself, then notes in the margins and pages regarding how the book relates to the division setting and the various actions of the parties involved are written over multiple timelines as they occurred. The note writer is April Kelleher. If you’re not a reader then I totally get it though. This particular bit of secondary media is done really well though.

If anyone decides to give it a go, I’m sure it’s been mentioned here but it’s, “New York Collapse”.

Well, I tried some Resistance today after watching a few guides, in the hopes of getting my first Classified gear and starting to move my ancient 1.6 builds into 1.8. What a disaster that was. First it took me near an hour just to figure out how to unlock Resistance. After having to look it up, my first round I wasted all my SHD Tech trying to open a door with one of the chests in it that gives Classifieds, but didn't have enough tech before I died in round 8 (soloing; World Tier 5) so it was all wasted. My second round I was doing a lot better, but the game crashed in round 4. Now I'm weighing if I want to bother keeping at it, knowing I probably won't have much time for this game, or if I want to say F* it and go back to my umpteenth playthrough of Witcher 3. I'm trying to get back into this game, I really am.

EDIT: Third attempt ended just as bad. Finally got the door opened, only to die inside it. It seems you can only be so far behind and expect to catch up. My gear is too old to compete and dropping a world tier gets me no where, so whatever.

This is one of those games I'd like to see them start over and do again but better. The game location wouldnt need to be in NYC either.

Solo resistance farming might seem difficult at first (and it is if you don't at least have some decent gear), but once you run it a few times to get the hang it should become easier. During the boss rounds take down the boss armor, then leave him alive while you kill everything else, then only kill the boss when there's like 15 seconds left. You can also farm it in groups, (there's always ppl matchmaking for it), though the strategies might be a little different in each group. Just follow the leader.

On the sub I see players mention that the devs said in the past they will up the classified droprate once the next global event (starting tomorrow) is over. I think almost all the content in the game is doable with the regular sets, such as mixing a 4 pc setA with a 2 pc from setB. They drop like candy and are sometimes sold by certain vendors.
