Hi

Im having very high latency spikes in latencymon after cleaning my computer with compressed air (high power straight from compressor)
First i used to get bsod and freezing but after clean installing my nvidia drivers im now getting mini freezing of mouse but not total crash while just watching movies and browsing.
Latencymon reports problems with dxgkrnl.sys nvlddmkm.sys usbport.sys ndis.sys ataport.sys (routine execution over 1000us)

I tried to re-insert my gpu and cpu heatsink (new paste) and all other connectors. Using safe mode or going back restore point doesnt help, same freezing starts when os is loading. I also tried downgrade my cpu and gpu overclocking and it didnt help either.

What the problem could be ? thanks

os windows 7 64bit
i7-875k
p55-gd55
gtx670 windforce

Was that a checking the "clean install" checkmark, or safe mode and DDU type of clean install?

Did you check latencymon before you did the compressed air, or only after it when you noticed the pausing?

How long does this pausing last?

What was your PSI on the compressor, and is there a max pressure limit on the attachment you used?

Do you have anything sucking up CPU or GPU?
(check with taskmgr or some gpu monitoring tool, leave it for awhile, might be some hidden miner software)

Yes i have tried multiple nvidia drivers with clean install checkmark or ddu in safe mode.

I didnt check latencymon before using compressed air and problem started right afterwards.

Pausing lasted first alot longer but after messing with the drivers and removing overclock from gpu and cpu its now better, i also had few times bsod related to nvlddmkm.sys. When it happends sound also cracks for a second.
Now it happens less often but latencymon is going still crazy.

CPU is at 30% load with no spikes when im watching movies, GPU at 30% and 4GB unused memory without spikes. So that cant be the issue.

I will check what tomorrow what was the max pressure but it was alot.

Well if you haven't changed anything recently other than what you've mentioned, then there is the possibly of it being a hardware issue.
You could try a clean install of windows or disable 3rd party services/remove 3rd party drivers, and just let windows install default drivers and see what happens.

Your system is old enough that there's always a chance of caps going bad.
Of course it may just be the air pushed a chunk of something somewhere it shouldn't be.

I will check what tomorrow what was the max pressure but it was alot.
I set mine to around 85 PSI when I clean my system, the little nozzle tool says 90 is max so (though it is around -30C so I'm not going to be doing that anytime soon).

I tried clean boot and safe mode which didnt help with latency issues. Strange thing is today i dont get mouse freezing or anything even when watching movies etc. Maybe there was some discharge happening when system was powered off and its now fixed?
I also cleaned my computer again with compressed air again if there was some buildup in the wrong place.

Im still having 1000-1500us ISR and DPC routine latency but it wont spike to millions like before.

i been running 1.3v to i7 875k for a 3 years now, it was at 3.7-3.8ghz. And my gtx 670 has been overclocked for years with 1.212v and +170 +150 on gpu and mem clocks.

Sounds like you've screwed up your CPU overclock somewhere, probably pushed the BCLK out of wack and/or the PCIe bus speed.

That's where I'd start... ;)

Not sure if you are using air cooling, but high pressure air can kill fans by over-spinning them at too high an rpm causing an overheating problem.

Compressor air can also carry excess moisture.

I went down to 150 BCLK and increased my multiplier which caused even more issues and bsod. Then i tried to lower my i7-875k multiplier to 15 or 16 and raise my BCLK to around 170-180 and its working now alot better somehow. Im still getting routine latencys around 1000 but not those 1 million spikes which ended in bsod. Strange huh? What causes high BLCK / low multiplier work better than other way around? GPU clocks dont seem to matter even underclocking doesnt help.

Fans are working well

What kind of storage are you using? A failing hard disk drive(mechanical drive) can cause this issue.

I have ssd and crystaldiscinfo says its in fine condition. I also tried to change ram sticks with no difference.

To add what Monkey34 said.... I highly recommend letting your rig sit for 30 minutes after blowing it out with a compressor because moisture DOES come out with the air even here in South Texas in the heat. It is a physics thing.

Also tape or finger hold the fan blades.

I tried clean install and latency was back even without nvidia drivers installed. I guess this leaves psu, cpu or motherboard as the cause. Will try another mobo and cpu in a few weeks if that helps.

Thank you for advice everyone.

I updated my motherboard from P55-GD55 to P7P55D and also bought new seasonic 750w power supply. I can now overclock my I7-875k to stable 4GHZ. Latency issues still continue somehow after changing nearly every component. Everything else than GPU has been tested and its the source of the latency problem. Seems like there was also something wrong with my motherboard or psu since even with gpu latency issue continuing everything works well. Thanks for help all.
