I did, that's who. Well actually I purchased it myself, and a few games too.

Have to say this thing has more privacy and ad settings than Windows 10, I didn't expect such things after the PS3. It took at least 10 minutes to turn everything off, and it still kept plastering my real name all over the home screen, and the only solution to get rid of that was to enter a fake name into my PSN profile, lame.

Also I Immediately ran into a bug. I plugged in a game, and it started to download a 25GB patch for it, so I left the console. But the darn thing went into sleep without finishing the actual download, it stopped halfway and turned itself off.

Then I ran GT Sport and it immediately crashed when going to the main menu.

Also my display doesn't recognize the signal from the PS4, it keeps reverting back to my PC, the PS3 worked without a hitch I selected HDMI from the input selector and it switched to the PS3. But not with this one. I select HDMI and it reverts back to DP. The only way I can go over to the PS4's display if I physically unplug the PC, or turn it off.

We're having a rough start to say the least. But I instantly forgave every problem after I started playing Horizon Zero Dawn, if I never play any other game ever, this already made the investment worthwhile.

I'm also waiting for my GIMX dongle to be able to play driving games. Not going to buy a new wheel, no way, when I already have a G27.

Any recommendations for a new PS4 owner?
Actually I have a question, is it safe to run it standing on it's side? Cooling wise that is.

What games are worth getting? (exclusives) I'm not going to get any now as I already got 5, so the question is just out of interest.

I always put a fake name in my profile...your user name doesn't need to match up with any credit card info so why would anyone post their real personal info...as far as games- Bloodborne, Nathan Drake remastered trilogy, Uncharted 4, Last of Us, Uncharted: Lost Legacy

The console should keep any pending downloads going while in rest mode, you might have to select that in the settings though if it's not on by default. But you can of course also adjust it's auto-rest inactivity time in the settings as well if need be.

Never had any issues with my monitor picking up signal from my PS4 or PS4 Pro. Sounds more like a monitor issue to me.

Should be fine to run it on it's side as far as cooling is concerned, though I've never done that. If you have the Slim, it should stay cool and quite regardless.

HZD is definitely a good start, I've put almost 200 hours into that game over 2 playthroughs and with the DLC that came out in November and is definitely my PS4 game of the year. Definitely pick up the Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy add-on, as well as the Uncharted collection and The Last of Us Remastered if you somehow missed them on PS3. Until Dawn is a great horror/suspense game to play that plays on a lot of common tropes on the movie side of the genre and is entertaining for spectators as well. I'm playing Nioh now and it's pretty good so far, though it just got ported to PC recently. Games I haven't played yet, but are highly regarded exclusives: Nier: Autometa, Persona 5, Bloodborne, the Yakuza series (the recently remade the original PS2 game for PS4 and it was well received), Hidden Agenda (mostly for fun multiplayer using PlayLink), The Last Guardian (same team that made the Icon games on PS2/PS3), Ratchet and Clank (remake from PS3 I think if you missed it), Wipeout Omega Collection, Everybody's Golf, and the soon to be released (and just had a couple open betas) Monster World Hunter.

I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting off the top of my head, but those should be a good start in addition to whatever you already have (which weren't specified other than GT Sport and HZD).

  1. I was concerned about this at first, as well, but I tested my sister's profile to see if she could see my real name and she can't. The system will always show your real name to you when you sign in with it on any console, though.
  2. Not a bug. You need to go into power settings and turn off the option to automatically go into rest mode after a certain period of inactivity has occurred. If you get Playstation Plus you have the option to continue downloading in rest mode.
  3. Don't know what to say about this. Shit happens. I've never had this issue with my PS4 Pro.
  4. Sounds like an issue with your display.
  5. Horizon is an amazing game. It's my GOTY 2017.
  6. Same. I got myself a Cronus Max Drivehub for my G920.
  7. Make sure you go through all the settings to set what you want.
Your season passes will be viewable under Account Settings -> Services.
The store has a wallet that you can fill with up to $200 by also going to your account settings.
All your DLC can be viewed by selecting the respective game on the XMB and going down to Store. Your Content contains a convenient listing of everything.
By default, the XMB limits the number of apps and games you can see to 20, IIRC. To see all of your stuff, go all the way to the right and open Library. The last game or app you used will be all the way to the left. The Playstation Store will always be the leftmost tile.
If you get unsolicited messages, go to the Messages icon in the top-half of the XMB, press the Options button on your controller, and select Leave Group. Check off all of the ones you don't want and confirm.
If you add an external drive for Extended Storage, you have to disable the drive in the PS menu (holding down the PS button on the controller) before disconnecting it. The system will bitch about it missing if you power the system on without doing this if for some reason you decide to unplug it.
  8. As far as I know, the Pro was not designed for standing up vertically as far as cooling and air flow goes. If you decide to still stand it up vertically, you need to use a stand.
  9. It would help to know what other games you have first, but I'll go ahead and list some regardless (knowing you have GT Sport and Horizon).
    1. Bloodborne
    2. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age
    3. Journey
    4. The Last Guardian
    5. The Last of Us Remastered
    6. Persona 5
    7. Ratchet & Clank
    8. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (and the Nathan Drake Collection, especially if you haven't played the earlier games)
    9. Until Dawn

I got one just before Christmas, around BF. Picked up:

Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition
Final Fantasy 15
Last of Us Remastered

I just got The Last Guardian on a sale (digital) and I have Shadow of the Colossus Remaster and Monster Hunter World on pre-order.

Recently completed HZD (amazing game), working on FF15.

    9. Until Dawn

  1. I know it's not visible by 3rd parties just me, still I don't like it. And I wanted to get rid of it, and that was the only solution.
  2. Well call it what you may it is undesired behavior, it shouldn't go into sleep if it's doing something. I turned off sleep completely, but this shouldn't be like this. The rest mode download option is avaialable to me even though I don't have a subscription. But I didn't try to turn it on, I don't want it to start doing things on its own.
  3. It's just a streak of bad luck
  4. Yeah, I'm not buying that, works with literally everything else, but not the ps4 pro.
  5. Well I thought Wildlands will be my goty without any contention, but now I'm not so sure.
  6. Never heard about that.
  7. Don't think I'm ever going to buy anything from the store, it's crazy expensive in this region.
  8. Well a stand won't change anything regarding air-flow, and it stands pretty solidly on it's side, so I don't think a stand would make any difference.
  9. I think I'll be happy if I can finish Horizon during the holidays, so I'm not thinking about buying anything for a while.
    I got these:
    1. Horizon: Zero Dawn
    2. Last of Us Remastered - it was too cheap, I already played it on PS3, but I just couldn't resist buying it
    3. Driveclub
    4. GT: Sport - this one came bundled with the console, but on first sight it barely looks different than GT6, but i only spent about 30 seconds with it as I don't have the wheel yet.
    5. Uncharted - Lost Legacy

The Last Guardian I loved. If you ever played Ico and/or Shadow of the Colossus you'll like this one.

Here are some other games to check out if you haven't already:

The Last of Us Remastered
The Order 1886
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
God of War 3 Remastered
Uncharted 4
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Uncharted Legacy Collection
Gravity Rush 2
Until Dawn
Ratchet & Clank
Killzone Shadow Fall (generic shooter)
Infamous Second Son (First Light too although i've never played it)

Future titles to get:

Death Stranding
The Last of Us: Part 2
Days Gone
Detroit: Become Human
God of War

I'm tempted to buy a PS4 Pro for Horizon Zero Dawn but I'd rather wait for at least 1 or 2 more exclusives that I'm really interested in to come out- Last of Us 2, Bloodborne 2

Yeah I was about to wait until TLOU 2 as well, but then I saw this at the local hypermarket for a great price. I didn't even buy it at first, I went home, then went back in the afternoon, it was still there, last one apparently.

Has anyone else tried doing Remote Play from your PC? I tried it with FFXV and it looked like crap, way worse than Steam In-home Steaming for example. Both the PS4 Pro and computer are hardwired gigabit, so there shouldn't be any issue there. I also had the quality settings on maximum but it still just looks terrible, and the input lag is pretty bad as well.

I didn't even know you could remote play from PCs, I thought that was just a Sony exclusive thing on their Xperia phones (which is pretty annoying since Sony doesn't really sell/push phones in the US or outside of Japan - they should definitely open this up to all mobile devices if they can). I'll definitely be trying that now, as I sometimes like to move my PS4 (Pro as well) from my living room to my computer desk where I use a 43" 4K Samsung TV as my monitor. I'll see if I can try it tonight and report back. I'm running everything on wired gigbit as well.

Yeah, I wasn't aware it was a thing either at first. Would be pretty awesome if it worked well, and apparently you can even do it over the net (?).

Also, if you get no sound, make sure to set your speakers back to the correct ones in Windows - for some reason when you plug in the DS4 controller, it switches audio to the jack on the controller itself.

I picked one up last year, it's been a great purchase. Plenty of exclusives you can't get on the PC and visuals are very impressive. Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last Of Us, and the Uncharted series alone made it worth the purchase for me.

Lot of good game suggestions, but I'd get something like this to stand it up vertically. I use one from "BRENDO", but it appears to not be currently available on Amazon.

Definitely set it to auto-download while off. Wouldn't hurt to set auto-upload to cloud on as well if you're a PS Plus subscriber. Make sure to set the controller LED lights to "dim" (hold ps button and go to settings; battery is sort of shit anyway, this'll help a bit) and for it to auto turn off after 10 min of inactivity. I'd also recommend turning on Boost Mode in settings for games that support it (Settings > System).

Feel free to add me, I use mine all the time (PM me)!

I bought one for GT Sport and Horizon Zero Dawn in 4K. I ran mine vertically for a while with no stand and would hear the fans ramp up after playing for about a half hour. I bought the official stand and I never hear it so I'd get one for sure.

Everyone else has covered the other things I'd suggest.

I use mine horizontal and sometimes the fan kicks on, but it's really not that loud - my fat PS3 is way, way louder.

I've been running it flat, and the fans still get loud after a short while of playing. The official stand is literally nothing else but a piece of plastic, maybe it lifts a few milimeters to have some clearance under it, but I'm definitely not going to pay the official price for the official stand. If all it takes is a slight lift I'd rather rig up something.

Meanwhile I recieved my GIMX, man this thing is way more complicated than I expected. I thought you only have to connect it to the pc to download the appropriate firmware settings for the controller you wish to use. Then when it's set no need for the PC anymore. But damn was I wrong.
  • The USB end of the GIMX dongle has to be plugged into the PC
  • The micro USB end of it has to be connected to the PS4 with the supplied cable (the only thing the piece of paper it came with says is don't use any other cable) And the supplied cable is quite short about 1m, and rigid as hell, it's hard to even unbend it from the factory bundle.
  • Meaning if your PC is far from your PS4 you're fooked. Or you'll have to drag a laptop near there when you want to play.
  • And the controller you want to use with the PS4 has to go into the PC! So the whole emulation thing happens by software the dongle is just the interface for it.
  • And if that wasn't enough, you also have to connect a Dualshock controller to one of the USB ports of the same PC, otherwise the authentication will detect your shenanigans.
So to summarize, you must have a PC with at least 3 free USB ports dedicated to running the emulation within 1m distance of the PS4. At least it can be a minimal PC running linux, but I Doubt anyone would build a dedicated rig just for this. Small systems that would be inconspicuous enough don't have 3 USB ports and I doubt you can use a HUB. But even with a dedicated PC it is much cheaper than giving in to those bastards and buying the new wheel for about $400.

So just a heads up if you're not up for some tinkering and the USB mess this is not the solution you're looking for. And the documentation is really vague and hard to understand, there is no step by step guide on how to set it up. I was sitting here not even knowing which end goes into the PC and which to the console. Had to google around a bunch until I was confident enough to turn it on and have a crack at it. The upside is that theoretically this thing supports moues/keyboard emulation as well, so I might try that later with a few games that I find unplayable with the controller. (Horizon works pretty well so far)

Apologies for the lateness, but here is information on the Drivehub I alluded to in an earlier post. It is a PNP device that just needs your PC to update the firmware. You just plug in a controller, your wheel, and then plug it into the console and the hub automatically takes care of the rest. Just a heads up that it took me almost 3 months to get mine in the US due to the high demand.

I mean, all stands are literally pieces of plastic. Having actually installed the official one, it installs securely while providing a sloped surface that provides much more space for the fan to intake air. I'm not saying to get the official one, and I'm certainly not saying to get one that is obstructive, as there are plenty of those. What I am saying is that I noticed a large difference in the amount the fans were running with the official stand design versus running it on it's side.

I definitely didn't want to shell out $30 for it, but to me it was worth it to help ensure the longevity of an expensive piece of hardware. Amazon has a couple of similar designs through other manufacturers for much cheaper that have good reviews too.

My PS4 Pro had gotten loud as hell over time. Took it completely apart and cleaned it and used some Thermaltake TG-7 from Best Buy (I was out of MX-4).

You should only be able to hear the sound of air moving and that’s about it.

If it’s loud now I’d send it back, or do the thermal paste replacement and void the warranty either way.

Mine is quieter now than when I original got it. They use shit thermal paste, took me 20 mins to clean it off.

Mine has been pretty quiet overall, even during heavy gaming. Only a fan sound. Definitely quieter than my fat PS3.

Yeah, I've only heard mine spin up loudly if I forget to pull it out of my entertainment center (it's on a slide-out shelf) a bit to keep it well ventilated. Very rarely do I hear the fans outside of that and it's definitely a bit quieter than the base PS4 I had before it, which wasn't way too bad either since it wasn't a launch PS4 (got it when Uncharted 4 launched).

Saw this vid a while back and thought it was cool that it was so easy to at least clean the fan out without voiding the warranty.

That method doesn’t prevent this. Notice the left side, it’s impossible to clean from that position.

Yeah, he said you can't clean the heatsink well still without completely disassembling it. Still good that they let you access the fan easily at least without disassembly, even if you can't completely clean it out from there. Fortunately mine has stayed quite so far, but it's only about 9 months old right now too.
