A clothing company has gotten away with naming itself “Steve Jobs” because Apple lacked the foresight to trademark his name. The owners, Brothers Vincenzo and Giacomo Barbato, are even using a logo that is a clear derivative.

While the Barbatos currently produce bags, t-shirts, jeans, and other clothing and fashion items, they told Business Insider Italia that in the future, they plan to produce electronic devices under the Steve Jobs brand. "We are working on a line of highly innovative electronic devices, projects we have been working on for years," said the two.

Now that's actually funny and quite clever but I'm sure Apple will find a way to rid themselves of these pesky Humans soon enough. They might be Italians but, the Family of Mac doesn't forgive and they never forget. :D

Sadly the only things they do need to do these days to be considered innovative is to;

Put in a headphone jack.
Put in a fingerprint reader.
Get rid of the camera bump.

All things that we used to have. Well things that I currently have because I don't have a google or apple product. :p But it won't even get to that. The announcement of making electronics is just to cement a buy out in 3, 2, 1.

Make them an offer they can't refuse. :D:D

If I were Apple I would buy them out. Which is probably what those guys are expecting anyway. Way to make a quick billion...

BTW I didn't know you could copyright a common name.

just two guys looking for a quick buck and to use someone elses name to do it. Sadly not original and kinda pathetic but whatever apple will buy them out and shut them down.

I thought his family owned the rights to his name and likeness. Why is Apple suing here?

Wouldn't this be a problem under US Trademark law? It's clearly confusing the brands and I thought that's the most important detail.

The thought of Steve Jobs underwear holding my balls seems appealing.

Nice ruling, Mr. Judge.
"Picasso had a saying -- 'good artists copy; great artists steal' -- and we have always been shameless about stealing great ideas." - Steve Jobs
And Picasso was absolutely wrong.

Jobs was a jerk. By his own admission, his only real ability was as a thief and to scam people. An "artist" he was not.

I've seen some great artwork. Pretty much the best real artwork comes from the imagination of the artist.

Just copying stuff that you are looking at and putting it on canvas with whatever medium doesn't make you a good/great artist.

Being a human copy machine doesn't make you an artist.

The quote distinguishes between "copying" and "stealing." By "stealing" you make whatever is stolen your own. That's what Jobs, and presumably Picasso, meant.

Poke at Jobs all you like, but he was a master at marketing and knew great marketing would win over anything else. He was right.

Copying/Stealing.... NEITHER make you an artist at all.
I don't think Jobs really cared about being an artist, but the sentiment has a ring of truth to it. Great art isn't born in and of itself, it always has its predecessors.

That marketing style is pretty much equivalent to out and out scamming. And because it is done by a company and there isn't a huge outcry against it, they can get away with it.

The system is so screwed up.

Well, I did not say it was not screwed up. It is scamming, and it works. People have proven it by buying into it and supporting it.

Jobs had abilities far above and beyond just taking ideas from other people. He was a genius when it came to marketing and he generally had a good eye for seeing something would be popular and jumping on it. Xerox had no god damn clue what to do with a GUI. One one of their R&D teams developed it and then the company basically shrugged and let it flounder. Jobs saw it and saw potential. He hired developers behind it and had them make a GUI for his company. I highly doubt he gave a damn about being an "artist". He took ideas he thought had potential and had them adapted to fit the needs of his company. Jobs was at terrible person, but one hell of a businessman.

Derangel,he really did not see "something would be popular and jumping on it".

There are two basic marketinging types out there. The guy who takes advantage of an existing market, and the guy who creates the market. Jobs was the latter. He created demand where there was none and he did it through brilliant marketing.

Jobs was the slickest used car salesman indeed.

Time for an American company to start selling Enzo Ferrari clothing.

Of course the "scent" that comes after the clothing line will have to be called... "Enzo by Ferrari" and it has to be said in an airy voice.

So, did they learn something and copyright "Steve's Jobs" yet as well. If not, a guy named Steve can certainly start a job recruiting site sort of like Angie's List.

lol, don't get me started on what the porn industry can do with that name, good god, why am I wasting all these money makers on you guys :)

Nah, it is hilarious.
Well, you'll probably think so until the BSmith brand line of dildo gags, butt plugs and herpes cream with a logo which includes a picture vaguely resembling you, is introduced and advertised. All of a sudden having your name and likeness used by another for commercial purposes might not look like such a good idea.

Are you kidding? Go for it! I can leverage that into a multi-million dollar property.

Apple getting beat in court is the most surprising part of this. And Jobs himself not having trademarked his name.

They were smart enough to trademark his name.
I’m going to double check in a few hours though and if you make me rich, I’ll buy you some McDonald’s dollar menu :D

Now, now Lobotomy,...play nice. It's the iPhone battery that is the buttplug. The iPhone is just the placeholder for the buttplug. :)

Do not attempt this at home childred, we are professionals.
