DOOM VFR

Just saw this about getting it to run on Rift.

Oculus Rift owner here. I was going to give it a negative review, until i discovered, that all the technical issues i had are solved like this: open your Steam VR -> Go to Settings -> Beta Versions -> Enable Beta for this app. (or something of sorts)
THEN (and thats important part), once the beta version is downloaded, you run Steam VR FIRST and only then, by the time it loads, you launch DOOM VFR.

Played it on my rift for a while, works alright. I'm holding off for a full locomotion update as I don't like the teleport feature

So far the game runs good, for some reason when I first launched the game it was set to 8xAA and was causing alot of stutter and random loads. Dropped the AA down to 2x and it runs alot better, you can tell the teleport was designed for the vive touchpad but its certainly usable on the rift, like I said earlier Ill wait for a proper movement update until I play the full thing. Only fired it up again last night because I had company over and I wanted top scare them with the intro (mission accomplished btw lol).

Do you have a two sensor setup?

I'm holding off since the Rift is technically not supported but seeing how easy it is to get running on the platform is pretty great.

I don't mind the teleportation mechanic as it works pretty well in RoboRecall and Doom looks like it'll play the same as that but will definitely be more awesome.

Oh wow just to update there is a mod to add full locomotion for rift users (nothing for vive users yet though )

I have a 3 sensor, play space is about 10ftx7ft and tracking is flawless. Only time I had an issue is when my 1 front sensor camera mount was to loose and tilted down without me noticing. Even then it worked 90% of the time and I was noticing weird issue when I'd try to reload a gun and my left hand would go in front of my chest so that the back 2 sensors couldn't see it. Due to my living room door being right where i'd place a corner sensor I have my sensors setup as 1 front corner 2 in the back corners.

I play it on my Rift. Worked fine once the Steam Beta was released that made it work with my Rift. I'm not all that impressed though. I left a not great review on Steam. The teleport + dash movement really bothers me as does the lack of left handed gun support.

VR has been out long enough that game makers should be putting both styles of movement.

I had planned to buy it, but now I'm not so sure...reviews haven't been great.

I didn't like the idea of teleport, but the one game that let me run with the thumbstick made me sick / dizzy.

You don't have to teleport. You can strafe if you want. I just find strafing causes my stomach to churn after doing it too fast. That said you can't really jump out of the way of attacks fast enough, so you either have to teleport a lot, or strafe.

Also things go so fast that you sort of have to teleport it to slow it down. (IE I at least can't play nearly as fast in VR than I can on a mouse/keyboard/monitor.)

Video wise I turned everything to the max, running a titan X (pascal). I might have to turn it down, or at least OC a bit. (Also I had some brief pauses on loading, going to swap it to my SS and see if that improves.)

Music is great, only thing that really pulled me out of the moment was when I got a new weapon and it sort of paused/lost tracking oddly. (IE I would move and the world wouldn't.)

It is only 30 bucks, figure even if it is ~4 hrs I will likely try it again on a harder setting. So that will likely be ~4 dollars per hour. Nothing compared to the initial costs of a good pc/vive.

It likely is one of the first games that my friends won't complain about looking like a 10+ year old game. So a good buy in my mind.

It is kinda neat, still not use to the controls or movement system, a little bit clanky or too measured. A dash maybe too much or too little and rarely right, to move backwards using teleport you have to look away, aim and let go/trigger for which in Doom is Doomed. I may get the hang of it. At this point it is meh.

Played an hour last night, it’s cool being in the doom universe. Visuals look great but the teleporting / strafing is not ideal. I agree with noko... it’s meh.

Sorry to say that I dont have the arm/hand speed to play this any more, especially in VR. Saw a great vid on youtube showing off the free movement looked absolutley wonderful.
Truley sucks to get old.

This game kicks all kinds of ass.... I am on psvr using a dual shock with full smooth locomotion and wow.. the combination of being able to aim with my head / forward view and full smooth locomotion on the sticks with teleport / telefrag is just silly fun!! VR is such a game changer. It is for sure the next big thing. I can't believe I waited so long to try it!

I'm new to VR, just picked up the PSVR on black friday. I played through Doom VFR with the AIM controller and had a blast. I'm lucky in that I don't seem to get motion sickness when in VR. I've been able to use locomotion since day 1. I thought that every game would have locomotion by default.

Does DOOM VFR support the Aim controller out of the box. I got one for my sons Christmas present. I will get Doom to go with it if it's an easy setup.

It’s such a blast. Heh. I did my first run with the DS4 but I am going to play it over again with the aim controller.
