Alienware AW3418DW 34" Ultrawide

Thanks guys, I am jacked!

FedEx notified me it arrives tomorrow, might need to call in sick so I can sign for it and start gaming.

BF1, SW BF2 and CODWWII are first up.

BF1 on ultrawide looks really good.

Do you all feel like 21:9 is getting solid support at this point?

it is a lot more common than it used to be, it doesn make certain titles a little more worrisome. Japanese titles specifically.

I have been playing Nioh though, there is a forum of people with widescreen monitors and they fill in most of the gaps with fixes.

Monitor arrived and I am extremely happy with it.
Looks beautiful and very little backlight bleed, just a touch in the bottom corners.
OC’d to 120Hz with a few button presses.

Games are much more immersive and slippery smooth! It is taking just a little to get used to not having the additional real estate in height but the extra width and curve really pull you into games.

Anyone sitting on the fence with enough funds should pull the trigger.

Try out the icc profile from tft

I was all set to buy one but after seeing the complaints about yellowing and backlight bleed I am reconsidering.

I can’t speak for others but I am extremely happy with my purchase and have zero regrets.
Very small bleed in lower right corner - not at all noticeable during regular use.

While I have not spent time staring at my monitor with white backgrounds trying to find yellowing, I have not noticed anything bothersome.

I fire it up, I game, I have a smile on my face.

If you are the type of person who nitpicks over everything (and nothing wrong with that) then you will find something off on everything.
I used to do that, now I do a decent amount of research, buy what I want and enjoy it - if something is noticeably wrong I RMA it.

Life is too short, it is meant to be lived.

I'm just one of those people that when I spend this kind of money on a product, I expect it to be well made and without silly issues. I am still running two Dell 2405FPW monitors so I don't buy items like this as often as many others do. I think I still may give this one a shot but I am still a little apprehensive spending $1000+ for something that might have issues with yellowing and backlight bleed. I suppose my current monitors aren't angels though.

Just started mine up and the screen was flickering. I've been running it @ 120hz with the included displayport cable. I dropped the refresh down to 100hz, still continued to flicker. Turned the monitor on/ off, still same issue. Ended up doing a factory reset and the flicker went away. Will re-overclock and see how things go over the next few days.

Update: Setting it back to 120hz immediately causes flicker. 115hz works with no flicker - at least for now.

Update 2: 115hz is now starting to flicker, just disabled the overclock altogether. Time to call Dell :(

Update 3: Called Dell, RMA was very easy. They asked for the service code on the back of the display and they're sending me a new one. Here's hoping it's better :)

Dell has refurbished ones for sale atm for $825 with code a13Monitor. Probably not worth it since they are ones that been returned for excessive BLB and other issues. Was thinking about pulling the trigger but I am going to wait.

90 day warranty only as well. That sucks. I was going to pull the trigger until I saw that. I am just buying new instead.

EDIT: ordered and should be here by 1/4

My color seems consistent across the panel. It does give an overall yellow/backlight glow when the screen is mostly black. It's pretty annoying to look at when trying to display a solid black loading screen like PUBG. I would hate to see how it looks in a low-light game. If you pinch the lower corners the backlight bleed will be greatly reduced. Maybe throw some C-clamps on it. ;)

any of you other owners out there noticed that sometimes your monitor doesn't actually go to sleep. It just goes to a dark screen with a red light, but it's obvious the backlight is still on?

I haven't seen that one. I did have an issue where the display was going into "Power Save Mode" when Windows turned the monitor off after 20 minutes or so. I hard a hard time waking it up when I sat back down at my PC. I had to disable the "Power Saving" option in the OSD to make it stop.

Ive never seen the glow effect gameplay. full black screens.

Only time its more of an issue on these ultrawides in 16:9 content. And its mostly just an annoyance.

Amazon has spoiled me. I was getting irritated that I ordered this on 12/28 and it hadn't shipped yet but then I realized it's only been two full business days since I ordered it.

I gotta stop looking at this thread because every time I come in here someone is posting about an annoyance and I second guess buying it.

I love mine. Game changer. No yellowing. I think with any monitor you're going to have some people that have issues with this or that due to their own sensitivity or due to the fact that this is kind of a outlier-type product - ultrawide, G-SYNC, and over 100Hz panel...

Seen this on sale on Jan. 1 at Best Buy for $999.99 (still on sale presently) and I ordered it. Currently running a Dell U3415W at 60Hz and a MSI GTX 1080 Ti X Sea Hawk. I am looking forward to running at 120hz.

Got my replacement panel today, no yellow tint so that's a good sign. I overclocked it to 120hz, no flickering (yet), hoping it will continue to work over the long haul. Back light bleed is actually better on this one as well.

The replacement was manufactured in September 2017 while the first one was built in October. Definitely seems like luck of the draw at this point.

Nah it's a great monitor at a good price point by gaming monitor standards. I love mine.

I'm seriously looking at this screen, I have some dell rewards I could use towards it. Currently running a GTX 1080 and a Dell 2417DG which is really nice 1440p 165hz but its getting hard to focus on as my eyes get worse. Is there any reason I shouldn't get this screen? I love Gsync, ultrawide, and curved.

I'm enjoying mine a lot, no regrets. Call it a late Xmas present to yourself. :)

I'm still loving mine, it didn't feel like a huge upgrade at first, the difference in gsync wasn't as obvious to me when I first tried it, as it is to some, but after going back, it's painfully obvious, to the point I can't play FPSs on my big display (samsung ks8000) anymore.

I have a little backlight bleed in the bottom corners also, but I *never* noticed it until I looked for it, even in games like Rust that have really black night cycles. If I think about it, staring at a white background the right side does seem a little "warmer" to me, but hell, it could be my eyes. Certainly isn't noticeable in actual use.

Only way I'll be upgrading, is another 120hz g-sync display that's hopefully a bit larger, and has HDR.

Hey everyone. I picked one of these up during the holiday sales as well. I will snap a pick and give everyone my impressions. One thing to note to some of the people stating issues with achieving the OC. Before this monitor I had a Asus PG248Q and could not get it to OC to 165Hz. I ended up replacing the DP cable and the problem was solved. Something worth trying before sending the entire monitor back.

I had to do this just to keep my Acer Predator stable at the stock 144Hz- now a year at 165Hz, no problems. Weird crap with the DP cable it shipped with.

Looking for a company that ships APO, while I don’t mind buying off local economy, only two overpriced amazon stores are selling.

I spent a few hours today playing destiny 2 on this panel and it was awesome. I had played before but just a little here and there. Spending alot of time with the game today I can seriously say it looks and feels great. High fps with gsync and 120hz with Super low input lag and no tearing or jutter was amazing. I really enjoyed it. Was some great PC gaming. Very happy with this screen.

Sorry it took me a few days to get these shots. Here is mine both with the lights on and off. The only thing I notice in person is a slight sheen from the bottom when the screen is blank, but it doesn't affect me when there is content. I also don't see any non-uniformity with the color temp.

This thread keeps popping up in New Posts while i'm browsing on my PG348Q. Its getting jealous. Someone tell me it isn't worth it to swap it for an extra 20Hz refresh.

It's not an extra 20Hz- it's an extra 100Hz :D

[and 512-zone FALD and it's an inch larger diagonal]

O I think IdiotInCharge may have read my post wrong. I have the PG348Q at 100Hz max.

I personally think there is a difference between 100 and 120, but my biggest loss by going from a PQ248Q is the drop from 180Hz to 120Hz and the response time of 1ms which I did quite enjoy. The larger screen and ultrawide aspect make up for it mostly, but I still want it all in one! I jumped on the Alienware because of the sale price.

Its not worth the swap man. Just wait a couple years and they'll have 144hz ultrawides that are 1440p and have HDR

I know some people are gonna mention the VA ones. but lets be real... IPS is better :p

I more or less agree with you myself, but I will point out that this is subjective, and that it is also down to the specific panels being compared and the implementation of each.
