Okay It seems after some more testing that setting my backlight ( brightness ) from 20% to 50% removes these lines. Although that introduces a high pitched sound, nothing major but it doesn't seem right. Im going to assume at this point my screen is basically faulty or has just one of the many issues this panel has. Thanks for the input.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a Benq BL3200PT.

The screen is touted as an 'eye care' monitor and all the marketing blurb suggests it's flicker free.
On high contrast scenes or night mode viewing ( such as a black background with white text ) i get some persistent lines in front of my eyes, actually on grey forums like [H]ardforum it's just as bad. Is this a side effect of PWM ? Are there any screens where PWM doesn't occur at all ?

heres a test i';ve done ;

i used something that has glass or mirrior and place in front of the display when its completely black ; if i see flickering off the mirrow i know the screen has pretty bad PWM.

TFT central actually measured that monitor and no pwm was detected. However VA screens do have problems with some dark transitions. You see this in some games and some forums as hard forum as well when scrolling. Maybe it is what you are picking up on. I also use one of these at work and they are much easier on my eyes than what the firm provided before (a standard 24 inch tn which on paper was also flicker free).

They tested on 100% & 50%. However i am running the backlight on 20% Setting. Obviously Im not going to dispute TFTcentral testing. Could it be that on very low settings you would get these attributes ? I will actually test this on 50% backlight to see if that is the case. The monitor is easier on my eyes than my previous monitor in that sense, there is no perceived large strobing flicker.I read the TFTcentral review before purchasing and the lack of PWM flicker was one of the reasons i bought the screen. I know it's probably not applicable to LCD's but the best way to describe it is like CRT 'scan lines' only static.

They are not as clearly visible as that so don't think that i am seeing that in front of me as an image and they are darker behind the image, looking away from the screen leaves those lines in front of my eyes on a black/grey screen with high contrast text. I sense it is back light related.

il give that a try :)

It sounds like an issue with your brain & nervous system which is probably being driven by high cortisol levels.

I have similar issues with bright screens and looking at white so I eliminate all white backgrounds with a browser extension called Firefox Dark Background and Light Text. I do not get any lines though just hypersensitivity and discomfort looking at bright screens.

I also use f.lux to reduce the brightness and reduce blue light.

Those BenQ VA panels did have a lot of issues which is why I avoided them after trying a different model to yours.

Try seeing an eye doctor instead of expecting electronics to counter whatever is truly the issue?

But hey, that would only make too much sense...

My panel also has the vertical banding issues, it could be a faulty panel with backlight instability ? As you said my gen of BenQVA panels did suffer from a host of issues. Out of interest im using f.lux and an extension that uses a black background and white text ( so the same as yours ), white backgrounds don't cause as much of a problem really. thanks for your input (y)

I have sense, that's why im asking on this forum just incase anyone else has experienced the specific issue with this monitor before consulting an optician over what could be a faulty screen. But thanks for the feedback.
