Cloud Imperium has revealed the official PC minimum requirements for Squadron 42, the single-player portion of Star Citizen. It seems that gamers will need at least 16GB of RAM to run the game.

This next-generation, sci-fi epic set in the Star Citizen Universe, features an award-winning cast starring in a cinematic story where you fly, battle and explore alongside the United Empire of Earth's best Naval pilots and Marines.

This game will never actually be released, it's just a long-term money grab. Throwing out BS about obnoxious system requirements is just a way for them to get more free advertising as it is spread around various computer news websites.

Since the requirements are kind of hidden on that page:

* Windows 7 (64bit) with Service Pack 1, Windows 8 (64bit), Windows 10 - Anniversary Update (64bit)
* DirectX 11 Graphics Card with 2GB RAM (4GB strongly recommended)
* Quad Core CPU
* 16GB+ RAM
* SSD strongly recommended

This is probably one of the most uninformative sys reqs I've seen.

Sys Req... you need... a computer! A good one!

Been playing 3.0 on the PTU for weeks, daily there is patches and improvements. Week to week are huge gains, anyone that thinks this isn't leading to a release or is a scam is nothing but a troll.

I've laughed at the mismanagement of this project from the beginning but even I think that some type of game will be released within the next year. Will it be good? I hope so.

Heck, I hope this game lives up to the hype. I'll happily purchase it if it does. I still don't grok people dropping hundreds (or thousands) of dollars on pre-orders, especially given the incredible scope creep this project has endured.

three words
MINIMUM VIABLE PRODUCT

The biggest requirement should be: A great imagination, because that's the only way you'll play this game.

I think it will be released at some point and you don't have to spend thousands to be able to play it. I bought a ship for $25 and can buy squadron 42 for $45 which I think will be worth doing when 3.o is released.

Hey I have access too thanks for a friend...Define huge gains why don't you. Because I've been Alpha and beta testing games since the mid 90's and have led more than a few projects. This one is moving at a pace that frankly makes Duke Nukem Forever not look like a fiasco. Anyone who isn't deeply concerned and dare I say outraged at the flagrant mismanagement of this project on a massive scale is deluded. Will some form of a game eventually come out? Probably, but it won't be anything resembling the game that was promised in the original kickstarter. It will be a mismatched shell of a game that more closely resembles no mans sky.

Works well if you have recurring and constant textures. Not so much if you have lots of varying textures.

Point being you might have the same texture tepresenyfed.multiple times in main memory but only once in graphics memory.

The point of mipmaps is to save memory and increase texture fidelity at various spacial resolutions. They still may be loaded by the driver but if the driver determines your resources are limited on the dx resource allocate it may only load the lower res mipmaps onto the card.

I paid $45 for something I'm well aware may never see the light of day. I'm not outraged because honestly, I don't care that much. If it's released, cool, I hope it's good. Otherwise, oh well, it was only $45.

Funny how they released system requirements in preparation for release then.

They only people that think this is a scam are the ones that have not even played the builds that have come out or watched the motion capture they have done with actors for Squadron 42. They don't know about the weekly updates or follow the game at all. They just regurgitate they same troll comments from other trolls.

16GB with 2GB VRAM.... I'm starting to think the CFO's of game developers have invested in RAM companies.

Can I have $45?

Sure that wasn't 2118?

Chris Roberts III: "Well at last it's 2118! My grandfather had a dream of a perfect game and today 100 years later I am happy to say...we delivered!"
Game Reporter: "Chris that's great! The only problem is finding a 100 year old computer to play this on!."
Chris Roberts II: " GR, of course you don't need a 100 year old computer. If you can run Half Life 3, you can run Star Citizen!"
Game Reporter: " Chris, looks like Derek Smart III is here to join us."
Derek Smart III: "I told ya so."
Chris Roberts III: "Go choke on some KFC."

To be continued....

Anyone who thinks this is a scam is very uninformed. When I die in 50 years and my grandson inherits my login, he's going to be one of the first players online for version 1.0 and he's going to love it.

Can't do that. Companies will crack down on user account sharing :https://www.hardocp.com/news/2017/12/21/cable_tvrsquos_passwordsharing_crackdown_coming

that rule has been in EULA fine print since the early 2000's for most games that require logins. you see rage posts every couple years in r/eve when people get pissed at ccp for not giving them access to their deceased parent/husband/wife/sibling/etc accounts to let their friends know they have passed away..

Then this must be the most improved game ever!

In all fairness, I heard about this game, and to great fanfare, about 3 years ago. I remember hearing it was pretty close to release. "Pretty close" is not three years. On that topic, there hasn't even been a release date, so it could approach 4 or 5 just since I heard of it and it wasn't a shell of a game then. When is enough, enough?

Been playing elite dangerous/horizon since release and hoping SC to hit just its 6mill goals. My problem is what was promised for 6 million and per UK fillings they have burned though 150 million and probably more. If they had delivered the 6 million dollar goal I would have been enthusiastic. Compared the money spent and what we have to play verses the original goals on the funding page. Based on the money spent I believe the whole thing now to be a huge mismanagement fiasco.

Makes sense, that's probably a pretty standard memory requirement for games coming out in 2030 or so
