iPhone X Screen Repair = $279

$8.99/month for Insurance through AT&T for the X is about $220 for 24 months. I'll stick to that (and a screen protector and case). :)
Except that is just the monthy fee. You will still have to pay a deductible of some sort and of course shipping.

According to AT&T directly the Standard deductible for the iPhone X is $299. So not that far off from the $279 for the screen. The insurance is worth it no matter how you slice it.

Negative. You missed what he said about paying a deductible. This is AT&T's info on their tier list:

iPhone X falls under a Tier E device.

So over 2 years you'll pay $299. And if you ever break your screen you'll have to pay a deductible on top of that for $89. For a total of $388. The only way you make out on insurance is if you break your screen twice in two years (or a total of $477 for a "savings" of $81 over the cost of two screens). So, if you break your phone zero times in two years, you spent $300 on nothing. If you break it once in two years, it's a loss of $109 over just having Apple fix it. And if you break your screen twice in two years and you're that butter fingered, I'd suggest getting a better case or buying a cheaper phone. Because I don't think you're built to have nice things. (And there is no point in discussing damage past that point, as AT&T only covers up to two breakages in their insurance, as per the above quotation).

For all but the most negligent, insurance from AT&T makes no sense. Even if you were to break your screen twice, or make the argument that that is a problem for you, it makes more sense to buy AppleCare+ from Apple directly:
https://www.apple.com/shop/product/S6367LL/A/applecare-for-iphone-x
AppleCare+ costs $199 (or $100 less than AT&T's insurance). AppleCare+ covers two years. And for each incidence of screen breakage they charge $29, and they cover up to two display breakages. So doing that method and saying you accidentally break your screen twice at a cost of $260, it is already an immediate saving over AT&T's option without paying deductibles of $40. If one breakage than the savings is $129.
This of course isn't also discussing the difference in cost between AT&T's insurance versus AppleCare+ when dealing with total replacement service. Nor does it discuss at all how easy or hard it is to get replacement. I know that Apple will get your screen replaced same day if you have an Apple store near you and it's in stock. I also know they'll give zero hassle to do so. I also know I'll get an actual Apple replacement part (and even if they don't have it in stock, they'll likely just give you a new phone or total phone replacement in order to ensure you receive the best customer service). AT&T gives literally none of those guarantees, and more or less says so in writing in all of their fine print.

So, let's recap: AT&T's insurance is over costed. If you only occasionally accidentally break your phone, buying insurance is foolish. If you want extra protection, AppleCare+ is a far better option with far better coverage and it costs significantly less. AppleCare+ and the screen deductible combined is literally less money than their replacement service. And they sell this insurance because they know (and are banking on) the fact that most people that buy insurance won't use it (which is how all insurance companies make money). So either you buy their insurance and they make money, or you don't and break your own screen and they make money. But in terms of you the consumer, if you really think you're going to break a screen and need insurance, Apple's option is still by far the best, least costed, with highest level of service.

We all know companies would not offer insurance if it wasn't profitable. I used to drop my phone a lot in the past, but I learned that it would all be avoidable if I don't try to do "too much" ie. if im walking to my car or walking around, I keep my phone in my pocket, and focus on what I am doing. If i have multiple things in my hand i make sure my phone isn't one. Thats what ive noticed how people drop their phones most, trying to do too much. Haven't dropped my phone in over 2 years.

Yes but at&t plan is just robbery. It makes no sense to buy the warranty through them.

And then pay $200 to have it fixed under insurance when it's time. No thanks. Apple Care Plus is what really covers it.
