There are 53 of you out there that Netflix is concerned enough with to Tweet at you. Given that I am pretty sure Netflix knows exactly who you are and what you are watching, this surely does not seem like a positive PR move.

The comments are hilarious. Maybe even up to a HardForum standard.

Those comments would make [H] forum goers proud. Perhaps some [H]er's here are really closet Twitters well claiming they would never use anything of the sort. (Signal fake outrage.) :D

Kinda hard for Netflix to give me good recommendations without them watching me... Dunno why that's not okay, and I'm an advocate for privacy!

I don't get the outrage? I thought it was rather funny myself.

If you like shit like this, then reading the red-text from warframe before a patch is dropped is even more funny. Some of them have so much sexual context..you can't help but laugh.

I love how people are complaining about so called "privacy" when they didn't identify a single person by name.

Next they'll be calling for Nelson ratings to not be used anymore because it violates the privacy of the millions watching the Super Bowl.

Not just snowflakes but stupid snowflakes. Gimme a break (and get off my lawn).

Yeah not exactly sure why people are outraged. I mean why wouldn't Netflix know that 53 people watched that movie? They know how many people watch House of Cards, Orange is the new Black, Daredevil, etc. No different than TV ratings...

Don't TV ratings rely on those Nielsen numbers? Last I remember, you have to opt-in and join to get a special box that logs the data of what you watch. So in that sense, no one does know what you watch. I think.

I too thought it funny.

Maybe not smart on Netflix's part to remind people what logging makes trivial to do. Most people are all to happy to play out of sight/out of mind. Not sure why you would want to bring it back to the forefront like this...

I used to do this, you have to be selected and agree to the device being installed. You also receive a small payment for your time and inconvenience. And yes the ratings are based, in part, of what you watch or don't watch. For example the fact that I rarely turned my tv on did not dissuade them as my data was still valuable (age, sex, location, occupancy etc) coupled with the fact of what I wasnt watching that others might be etc. You also give age and sex of your guests when they are watching tv.

You also agree not to talk about it on social media during the period when you are in the program. I am well outside of the "blackout" and am now permitted to talk.

Perhaps the comments were funny at first, now it's just the normal twitter moronic mess... (don't ya wish you get those minutes back?)

Maybe but you don't need the Neilson ratings anymore.

If anybody thinks Comcast/Verizon/Cox/InsertRandomTVProvider doesn't track every click you make inside their TV Guide system is a fool. Your TV provider knows when you watch Grey's Anatomy or Tig Ole Bitty Fun Hour from Pay Per View.

Your cable box doesnt know who else is in the room and how old they are. Nielsen knows.

The majority of the earth

Let me fix that for you:

The idiots who can't tell propaganda from Ads, will give tons of personal info to complete strangers, like to see targeted ads, will buy a "Big Brother" device to make them feel like they have a life, when writing down a grocery list is way easier.

I bet they even like Lootboxes, and play candy crush, but that's just my prejudice against idiots.

I bet Netflix is not sending notes to the guys that have "Birth of a Nation" on constant play...

I have to just say this made me LOL hard. I couldn't help it. I know that's wrong but man I can't stop grinning hehe.

The majority of the earth is stupid then. We're doomed.

You do, of course we all hope, realize that this forum is on the Internet and thus it would be considered a form of social media, right?

Right?

I wish Netflix original content was based on in house numbers. Some of my favorite programs got killed off because of Nielsen ratings looking bad.

Well that was a healthy dose of funny/creepy, Happy Holidays all :)

53 people who watched watched A Christmas Prince every day for the past 18 days? 18 groups of three sharing one Netflix login, except on the last day. Then it was two.

On the first day of Christmas my true love shared with me: one Netflix login.

I am pretty sure that that tweet was made up just to get people to watch that film.

No. Social media is something where you appear using your real identity and discuss about your private life - this is just a bulletin board with anonymous posters talking about technology. BBs existed way before the term 'social media' was even invented.

How can anyone be surprised that a service requiring an account is recording what the account is used for? Amazingly stupid people in that Twitter thread, but then again it IS Twitter.

LIKE OMG, TWITTER KNOWS I REFRESH SCOTTS FEED 170 TIMES PER DAY WAITING ON NEW TWEETS

OHMEGERD!!!!

Honestly, I think this is BS fake PR stunt that they pulled. I don't doubt that Netflix has this capability, how else would they know which shows of theirs that they produce actually bring in the people to watch them??

Honestly who needs a twitter account these days when the news does just a fine job of keeping us informed of whats on twitter!

Back in the wild, wooly days of tbbs, citadel, cbbs and you had to WANT to post things because the bbs's were usually a toll call. Or the text usenet groups (if you were lucky enough that your local library had free gateways). Ah, the days of going into the Tolkien usenet group and dropping the bomb, "Balrogs have wings!" and watch the bloodshed.

Good times, sigh, good times.

I don't know what data DirecTV sends back to the mothership, there's a phone line connected just for that, but I bet they have a pretty good idea what I watch.

Don't tell me they use an analog modem...

does Netflix have porn?...then it doesn't matter if they know that I like to watch Stranger Things or Daredevil
