During MechCon 2017 in Vancouver, Piranha Games president Russ Bullock took to the stage to announce that MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, the return to a single player sim-like MechWarrior, is coming in December of 2018. MechWarrior hasn't had a proper single player game for over 15 years, but MW5 marks a return to form.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries’ campaign will begin in the year 3015 in the game’s timeline and stretch for 35 years. Full mod support means players can “customize their own missions, contracts, planetary systems, biomes, and much more, via powerful toolsets and Steam Workshop integration.”

Still have my MW4 Mercs discs here, but no longer have an optical drive. First world problems.

This is exciting even if it is from piranha, will be watching closely.

please for the love of god move MWO to the unreal 4 engine.. the difference in quality between MW5 and MWO is night and day..

MWO is just.. ehh. I'm displeased with how it's been handled.

I will say that you are correct sir. It needs a big update. It's getting kinda stale.

MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries was released for free using a freeware license from Microsoft in 2010, by fan developer MekTek. The free release of MW4M is also called MekPak. I have a few different copies of the freeware version for download, here: https://mega.nz/#F!K9pHzDaJ!fNT7U1pGXGExccPRnmTBSA

The MTX files are the original release, with the patches that bring it up to version 3.1. The other two releases are archived base 3.1 installs, and can just be extracted and run.

The game requires some tweaking to get to run in Windows 10, and maybe in Windows 7, but you might be able to find information about that here: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/mechwarrior4mercenaries/discussions

The only difference between the freeware version and the original version is that the freeware version has a lot more mechs in it, and also has a lot of additional bug patching.

Oh man, I hope PG has no idea how many people will buy this now matter how bad it might turn out...

Thought they already said VR support.... Looking... Found a tweet plus several pages supporting VR.

I hope [H]ard OCP does a review ... and lets use know as soon as news is released on the system requirements. Seems that any info online has MW Online's Sys Req. in place of this game. (from the 5 minute searching I did)

There won't be system reqs for a while since the game is a full year away.

why do the graphics look like a game that came out 10+ years ago?

Here’s to hoping they adopt a real engine like unreal 4 or something from crytek because the graphics are shit

Go play it on Windows 10 today! Totally legal and authorized by MS. (no MTX or voodoo driver files needed)
MekTek Mechwarrior 4 - Mercenaries
and or if you want to run the original release go here:

Which MekPak version is that zip for? It should say in the loading or menu screen in the corner somewhere, I think.

4 play coop.... Done I liked MWO, wish they had a better end game plan but many hundreds of hours in it without an issur. Absolutely look forward to playing this with kids in coop

I wish I still had my Sidewinder force feedback joystick, that thing was awesome for the old MW games. Torso-twist strafing was so much easier than with the default mouse/keyboard setup. Force feedback was interesting too, for the games that supported it.

Probably will hear about major updates and specs on this at GenCon this year (August).
Or, if not, will see if I can weasel it out of someone during the innumerable BattleTech dev community parties.

This is the best news regarding this as I could have ever gotten! MW4 remains as my favorite MW game simply because of the great SP experience, so I'm really looking forward to MW5!

I think you are confusing this MW5: which was announced some 8 years ago and never released with this one: which was announced in 2016.

Easy mistake.

I remember playing the mechwarrior 2 demo and mechwarrior 2 online with mplayer back in the day before quake 1 appeared, reactor online, sensors online, weapons online, all systems nominal brings back memories, should be fun

Edit: nostalgia :p

I still have the CDs. The cool thing is that the videos can be copied to the computer and the CDs are actually audio cds. I have them in my car audio player and you can listen to all the game music which were very cool.

If I recall correctly, that trailer from 8 years ago wasn't in engine (Cryengine?) either, so we never really had a hope of getting those graphics in what became MWO.

I wonder if we'll ever get a MW game that approaches the fidelity of one of the previous in-game cinematics.

I think it was announced not as a PC title but for the xbox, so.... any fan support for it basically died right then and there.
