BestBuy 40" Samsung 4K $299.99

Can you post a few pics? What stand do you use to put the Ultrawide on top? I thought about that too and I bet it looks awesome. I'd like to use the TV in the room too for when I want to watch TV when on the PC, wonder how easy that would be to do with that setup?

Here ya go. Currently I'm using a standard monitor arm hooked up to the top shelf of the Jerker. Also the monitor in the pic is a 49" Sony X900E.. I moved the Samsung to another room this weekend. heh

Wow nice setup. That TV barely fits in that desk of yours! haha. That is a thought. Flip the arm upside down to support that monitor. I do have a shelf and an arm. Wonder if I can make it work upside down. Hmm. :)

I jumped on the mu6290 deal from costco. LOVE the size of the monitor. I was able to get 4:4:4 without any issue using my 1080ti. The ghost/trails while browsing are very noticeable. I'm returning it. When a 40 inch tv comes out that can do 100hz plus I will be all in again. Playing games at 40 inch was a totally amazing experience.

I don't think that's so much to do with the 60 Hz as the slow-ish pixel response time of these. That was a complaint that some had with last year's model as well.

If it was because you needed 100+Hz to not have the trailing, then all non-gaming monitors would exhibit that effect.

It has a gaming mode. I tried that the first time the other night. Usually I have the I'm out set to pc mode. Goto the input and select edit and select pc.

You have to take it off of pc mode to select gaming mode. :/

Thats last years model.. if that has changed eith the 2017 model I'm swaping screens from the new bedroom one to the pc room quick hehe.

I just hooked my Samsung up. Any recommendations on how to configure it optimally for games and stuff?

You want to select the input your using for the monitor and hit edit and select pc.. so change it to pc. To do this hit the settings button twice on the menu. It will show the inputs. Highlight the input for the pc. Then arrow up to edit. Then select pc to change it to pc.

If you have a nvidia card goto display properties in nvidia control panel and select 4:4:4: in the drop down menu. I believe it will be 8 bit and limited.

Would you guys do the LG 43 Inch one since the Samsung one is no longer on sale? https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-43-...-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv/5763401.p?skuId=5763401

Mind you, I am speaking about using it on a PC.

You might want to check out the rtings review: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/uj6300

The new LGs have input lag that's second to none, which should make them extremely responsive and great for gaming. But the RGBW pixel structure has some drawbacks (see review).

Personally, I would pass or buy from a place where you can easily return it. I'd probably favor the Samsung or Sony sets despite slightly higher input lag measurements.

This is an older thread, but most/all of it should still be applicable since I doubt much has changed in terms of the menus and features: https://hardforum.com/threads/2015-samsung-4k-tv-as-a-monitor-set-up-guide.1869675/

I do have a 1080 FTW, but I do not see a setting for 4:4:4?

Thanks for the site to look at. I would be going from a Samsung 28 inch 4k monitor to the 40 Inch Samsung TV and driving it with a Vega 56. :) (I am skipping the LG One as a PC monitor.)

It's in the "Output color format" dropdown...although the guide that I linked says that RGB is now the recommended setting. So, I guess use whichever one looks best to you.

NP! :)

Yeah, I set to RGB. I switched it to yours but I didn't see a difference. So I guess RGB is the one to use then! :p

Ah crap, store is closed now and sale ends today, thanks anyways.

No I meant moreso to jump from my existing 2k 144hz monitor to 4k. It would be hard to go back to 60hz

Ah gotcha, I misunderstood. I know that last year's $300 Samsungs were known for relativity slow pixel transition times compared to higher priced units and assumed that's what you were describing.

Actually once you goto 4k gaming it's hard to go back to 2k! Haha I've been using the highest hz monitors I could for decades and all that has changed once you sit in front of a huge 4k screen!

Sure I'll snag the first 4k screen thst can do 100hz+ but for now.. I'm good.

My lonely Asus 2560x1440 165hz screen has been collecting dust on my desk ever since for about 6 months now hehe Gona give it to my 8 year old for his rig.

Just bought it from Walmart for $328 + Tax, here is hoping that it is worth it. (Yes, I can return it if I do not like it but, I do not want to buy it and then return it because of buyers remorse.) 40 Inch 4k should be an real improvement over 28 inch 4k though, both Samsung products.

I know we have a massive thread from last year somewhere when everyone purchased one but wanted to update you all regarding their RMA service just in case you were wondering.

One of my 40" TV's (Samsung UN40KU6290FXZA) decided not to power on one day. It was purchased last year but was still within warranty. Called Samsung and they issued a ticket. Advised me of an authorized service center to take it to. I took the TV to them, Samsung sent them the RMA info. Repair center stated the power supply was bad. Had the TV back in about 2 days and all is well. It was pretty painless and was actually shocked. The guy did tell me that getting parts for the Samsung 43" and smaller is rather difficult.

*Sigh* I am using the HDMI cable that came with my XBox One X, which is clearly capable of 4k 60hz. I can connect it up as a dual monitor and set it to 4k 60 hz but, it still looks all blurry and such. Also, when I boot the computer with the HDMI connected, it will not boot and I do not see PC mode at all on the TV. If I have to go through a crap ton of cables just to get this working, I am not sure it is worth it. Of course, I could not doing something wrong, any ideas? Thanks.

Oh its worth it alright. You switch to the right input on the bsck of the tv first? Could be a hand shake issue. Make sure it's on the right input then power up the pc. Give it a few just encase you might not see anything till it gets to the welcome screen.

Blurry screen is prob wrong settings in the Xbox. Usually if the tv has to up scale the picture to 4k it can be blurry if it's not at least 1920x1080 which is half of 4k which the tv will be able to scale perfectly.. off sizes is when it may look blurry.

When your on the Xbox but info on the remote or whatever button will show you the source info of the picture being sent to the screen.

Oops, sorry, I meant that I am using the One X cable to connect my Vega 56 up to the TV. The computer will not post with it connected is what I meant.

No post beep?? Strange. The pc should boot regardless if there's a monitor connected or not. Make sure the cable is fully seated in the card and tv.

Give it a min for the picture to come on as sometimes you will only see it come on right when it grtd to the windows welcomb screen.

Make sure it's the right input on the tv as well.

Still nothing? Unplug and plug it into the back of the card again and see if it comes on.. :) power cycle the tv if needed.

I usually run I to problems if I don't turn the tv on before the system posts.

Thank you for the ideas. Unfortunately, I have decided to just give up. When I do connect it after it boots, it does not detect it correctly and chances are, it needs a more expensive HDMI cable that I am just not interested in investing in. Oh well, it was worth a shot. I am on a 28 Inch 4k monitor anyways so I am not totally losing out, a Samsung one at that. :) :D

Have you tested the tv with another source to make sure it works?? Tried more.then 1 input as there's 3? Prob just needs a certified HDMI 2.0 cable. There real cheap on Amazon or mono price. Walk into best buy for one.. I understand why.

Yeah, tried all the HDMI ports and none would properly detect or allow the computer to boot when connected. :( Oh well, could be that my setup just simply has issues with it or maybe the fact that I flashed my Vega 56 with a 64 bios was causing an issue. Thanks for the help, glad others have had success. :)

I bit. Got the MU6290 from Lowe’s for $300 minus a $40 off $200 coupon and 2.7% raise.com gift cards along with their cyber Monday code for another $10 off. I finally tested it last night and was able to use the Microsoft HDMI 2.0 adapter with my Surface Book performance base to get 4:4:4 at 4K 60hz. Had to turn on HDMI UHD and edit the source to be PC. Once that was done it looked great. Colors were good and passed the 4:4:4 text png test. Editing the source to PC and turning on UHD is the key to getting 4:4:4. It really is night and day. Once you get 4:4:4 4K at 60hz it looks just like a monitor would. I haven’t done any color tests yet but it looks pretty much as expected for an 8 bit panel, which is good. You can’t see it in the pic but behind this beast is a 30” Ultra Sharp U3014 10 bit panel on an ergotron arm. If color checks out well enough I just might be getting rid of the ultra sharp. First impressions of this 40” are “It’s a keeper”. :)

I am picking up the 43 inch unit this evening and a cheap 4k HDMI cable to give a second go. (Hoping the first one was just defective and that was why the computer would not post with it connected.) What do you mean turning on HDMI UHD and editing the source to be a PC? Thanks..

Remember the 43 uses a different panel so the deep blacks of VA will be missed but you gain in pixel response so that may work better for you. You will need to go into the advanced picture settings and make sure you have UHD turned on. You can follow the guide from rTings to see how to get to the settings.

Thanks. :) Looking good so far but, I am surprised that I need to set my scaling too 125%, I thought a 43 inch screen would make 100% scaling work well but, it does not. I did have to set a small box under the backside of the base to tilt it a little bit forward. Otherwise, it would not look right. Anyways, the thing is a monster and definitely different from the 28 inch monitor I was using.
