Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene has clarified that the Xbox build of Battlegrounds will run at 30fps whether you’ve got a standard console or fancy Xbox One X. While a higher framerate is feasible on the latter, shipping the game with one set of players running at 60fps and another at 30fps would have caused an outcry.

“We’re constantly refining the game and exploring options to increase FPS, but this early in dev, we’re unable to confirm more,” Greene wrote. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds arrives on Xbox One on December 12. Microsoft’s pretty pleased with itself over this console scoop. The enormous PC userbase for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds would probably like to hear that Bluehole is making similar efforts for the notoriously resource-intensive shooter, too.

...and this is why the system refreshes are turning into a horrible idea. The horsepower is there, but developers don't want to alienate anyone.
If this continues I hope this is the last time we see these mid-life console updates. Either go all-in or don't burden us with 'em.

lol from 60 to 30 in one day.....poor kids with consoles their eyes will go batty....
I'm never going to pick up next gen just isn't worth it not enough developers and lack of imagination to push the consoles.
Basically consoles are alter egos to the PC which is ok but why would you want to own both?

I just don't get the thinking.

If we go with 30FPS, the XBOX One X guys will be unhappy.

If we go with 60 FPS, the XBOX One X guys are happy, but the XBOX guys can't play, that's a no win for sure.

If we allow both consoles to run at 30FPS or 60FPS depending on what they can handle, the XBOX One X guys are happy and some of the XBOX guys might cry some, but it's the best we can do for them.

I'm just glad that I'm a PC gamer.

It's a lose lose situation. Shipping both at 30fps will outcry for the One X users.

Keeping both at 30fps is dumb but the real excuse is probably that they can't optimize for the One X fast enough to meet their launch. I bet they are keeping the One X at 1080p with no visual improvements whatsoever.

There is a ton of lies that is always coming out of the Microsoft camp and or from Xbox One developers. Kids eat up numbers. In fact, any positive news will generate from that one person an additional 8 more people that that person will tell. I learned this when I was in the grocery business more than 15 years ago. And trust me, Microsoft and their partners now this. They routinely release misinformation to confuse and purposely mislead the gaming community, parents and all those wet behind the ears younger console gamers.

One day it's 60fps, the next day it's 30fps, so on and so forth. Confusing? Exactly .. that's the point.

People with more powerful systems should be able to run at higher fps. If the other lesser Peasants want 60fps then upgrade your stuff!! This is the way we've done it on PC for years. If they are going to allow older hardware to hold back the newer more powerful hardware to keep things even, then I agree with posts from earlier, they should just stop these refreshes

Kids, Groceries and Microsoft. They're all pretty much the same.

Hey kids buy our next gen consoles with last gen frame rates.

And you know what? They will.

How about; everyone can play together (PC;xbox;PS) however there will be 3 server farms, one for 24-30fps, one for 31-60fps, and one for 61fps+. Else the 30fps is going to have 4x the lag of the 120fps player.

This. what I've been saying all along. just get the real update in 2-3 years. waste of time and money.

Your proposed plan would never work because Sony won't play ball. Also mouse gamers vs. controller gamers with auto aim negatively affects balance.

I don't understand their reasoning. Doesn't this happen all the time with PC multiplayer? Everyone plays at whatever framerate their hardware can handle and nobody complains about it?
True but PC gamers are used to this and dont engage in petty system wars the way console gamers do. In fact PC gamers tend to be supportive of people with superior systems. You learn of someone with a beast of a PC and you're like "nice system man thats awesome". Console games are exactly the opposite and just feel jealousy if something performs/looks better somewhere else. The fact they're willing to deliberately cripple their own game to appease some crybaby's really lets you know what the maturity target audience for consoles really is.

I'd rather get trashed wasted and play checkers by candlelight than play any game at 30fps, daggers to the eyes. Same thing goes for playing with my thumbs. Daggers...

And now everybody knows what PC users have been dealing with since the first console and cross platform release happened. Everything is almost always dumbed down to the console level even though the PC is capable of worlds more.

The need for a consistent, clear draw distance and LOD won't enable them to ever have a consistent 60fps on the original xbox 1. No need to make up fairy tales for your customers about magical post launch patches that will make your hardware more than double in speed.

Isn't this sense fairness they are trying to install basically the same as teaching to the back of the class?

Moreso, why is Microsoft going along with this. You would think they would support the imbalance as it would encourage the slow console owners to upgrade their shit.

Now Epic should come along and boost the XboneX version of Fortnite to 60fps. I bet the PUBG devs would be changing their tune quick.

Outcry if you do, outcry if you don't. The least harm though is to let it hit 60fps if it can, they've chosen the worst of the two evils.

Agreed, What i really hope is that both Sony and Microsoft in the soonish future launch a console with a powerful APU and an empty upgrade slot for a dedicated discrete gpu (1 model only produced every few years). This way when the apu get a little long in the tooth you pop in a gpu and youre good to go. hell maybe we could have crossfire and it will get the attention it desperately needs if both microsoft and sony want to use it. Microsoft and Sony would only have to upgrade the add on gpu every few years which they could charge a premium for and since they wont have to manufacture a new console they would save quite a bit of money.

im sorry but its ridiculous that going into 2018 consoles cant run games at 1080p 60fps minimum

Why do people waste their time playing anything?

Who knows but, from what I read, Fortnite is much more stable and fun. On the other hand, I have heard plenty of folks grumble about crashing and performance issues in PUBG.

Are we not still having this fight over widescreen?

If you think it gives an unfair advantage, then upgrade your shit. I'm not sorry for saying this. Wanting a "fair" playing field in a so-called "competitive" game is one of the biggest jokes in the gaming industry.

I wish I could like this twice....I was going to same the same thing...... the reasons sounds pretty hypocritical to me.

Chances are, people are playing both. They're two entirely different games with a similar premise. PUBG is a buggy piece of shit, but I can see why people play it.

Because the premise and concept is great but their delivery not so much. My biggest problem with it is even if you have a badass rig that can handle it and high settings it's a disadvantage to do so. That and half the time badass rigs playing it still can't get it to work right.

It's no surprise. The game barely gets 50fps average on a Core i3, and that's twice as powerful as 7 Jaguar cores.

AMD's ancient CPU tech can't get flushed away fast enough. Releasing the One X (still castrated with Jaguar) nearly year after Zen hit the market is just sad.

The CPU cores in the current consoles were a relatively small improvement over their predecessors.

I don't see the issue with a newer, faster, more expensive console having higher FPS.
Why not make the option for the older console to do 720/60fps?
This sounds ridiculous.

That said I don't think Jaguar is helping as mentioned by others.

That gutless Jaguar CPU continues to let the platforms down.
This is exactly what the issue is.
Those 8-core Jaguar CPUs are literally on par with a ~3GHz Core i3 4th-gen CPU... which is laughable by today's standards outside of HTPC media centers and very low-power servers.

For a console, the GPU isn't what is holding it back, it is blatantly the CPU at this point in time.
The Jaguar CPUs were literally meant for thin clients and low-power computing back in 2013... let alone for "powerful" gaming consoles in 2017+.

I agree.
