Tech leaders promise that artificial intelligence will help solve the problem by automatically identifying offensive content before anyone can see it, but clearly, AI is not yet enough: YouTube’s CEO, Susan Wojcicki, explains that the video site is swelling its moderation team to include 10,000 staff across Google to help battle objectionable content.

Human reviewers remain essential to both removing content and training machine learning systems because human judgment is critical to making contextualized decisions on content. Since June, our trust and safety teams have manually reviewed nearly 2 million videos for violent extremist content, helping train our machine-learning technology to identify similar videos in the future.
 
Good. The automated systems in place are not nearly enough to filter out the false, misleading videos from the legitimate in a way that helps content creators. Nice to see Youtube backing down, but it took too damn long for this to happen.
 
The headline is somewhat misleading. They're adding reviewers to get to a total of just over ten thousand, not hiring ten thousand.
 
I feel as if these 10,000 reviewers aren't only going to remove violent extremist content from YouTube, they're going to destroy a lot of good content also. Fishing and hunting is one example.

Yeah.. FINALLY I'll be able to watch YouTube without having to be afraid of being offended. And as a nice bonus, I'll be 100% sure I'm getting the Alphabet approved right-think information! Thanks Google!

Also, I'm glad someone's actually thinking about the children for once. OH WHY DOES NOBODY EVER THINK OF THE CHILDREN!
 
10,000 reviewers is pretty impressive in it's own right. There are many many companies that have less employees than this and make useful stuff, like a profit. We can certainly give Google a hard time for what they do, but absorbing the cost of YouTube is something I am grateful for none-the-less.

people are such pussies. They need to teach Thick Skin 101 starting from Kindergarten.
 
10000 so they can train the machines better. That's the real goal here. Well, good publicity is good too.

I'm hoping sarcasm... But just in case, not actually male. The joke was started as a response to Lauren southern applying for and receiving an official change of gender to male by the government of Canada, to prove how pathetic/stupid they have gotten.

The problem is the CEO she is easily offended darn snot nose kids posting stuff on my cash machine.
Someone should tell her you can't control the world let alone someones PC screen and depression.

Sorry to dash your hopes :), I fell for it and thought all hope was lost to see these changes for what they were by the Adams apple. I take pride in the fact I didn't know about it ;), if it was ever on [H] before, it never would have activated my give-a-shit meter.

Susan Wojcicki is a corporatist SJW. She is concerned with turning YouTube into a platform for brain dead politically correct mainstream corporate media, she wants to discourage independent creators. She hasn't even been uploading to the channel she made to learn about what it's like to create content on YouTube. She's completely totally out of touch with what people on YouTube want.

No, Lauren just had her gender legally changed (on paper)...no surgery required. Lauren retains all original lady bits.

I miss the old days of youtube (prior to google ownership) when people could post anything they wanted.....and it wasn't intended to be vicious or purposefully offensive or predatory. You know stupid people just posting stupid things.... funny videos and such.
Nothing lasts long now-a-days it gets the political scope and crashes and burns after that.

As for YouTube, they'd need 100,000 moderators to keep the blindingly stupid comments cleaned up. I don't log in anymore, seems like whenever I do Google has a spasm and hijacks everything into the Googleverse.
