Thanks in large part to the popular 2003 role-playing game Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars fans in various online polls and Twitter chatter named this period as their favorite when they were asked what Last Jedi director Rian Johnson should focus on for his still-mysterious trilogy. He played the game and loves it too, but it's just not compelling enough.

"I played that game when it first came out and it was like, god, I loved it. Yeah, that’s a fantastic game. And I understand it, the instinct to automatically go to something that you know and love, that you’ve already seen." And yet Johnson rejects that instinct. "To me," he says, "what’s really fun is the notion of what new stuff are we gonna see, what new stories can we tell?"

I think it's more a matter of - why don't you go to something that has a story that millions enjoyed, rather than trying to create a 'new' one that is nothing but a bad retelling of the ones that came before it? There's so much good source material, maybe use some of it instead of pretending it doesn't exist.

I don't see how they can tell any new stories when you have rich time period such as the KOTOR and SWTOR to draw from. It's going to be just too difficult to market all the things, when they literally have all the things available

I don't know, looking at the amount of money they might've made - KOTOR 2 sold about 500k units in the first month in the NA market, at 60 a pop, that's only 3 million coming in.

KOTOR 3 would be a lot more expensive to make, if done right.

i say a whole trilogy based around jar jar would be exciting !!

Just give me all the bounty hunters and I’ll give you all the moneys.

IG-88 better be getting his own flick.

Yeah, that's why you keep sucking that nostalgia teet and rehashing the original characters, machines and plot lines.

Please no. Make something original, or at least try. The Force Awakens was such a disappointment. My expectations for The Last Jedi were lowered long ago to "maybe it won't suck." If Johnson can pull off something truly different, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for his new trilogy. If not... It's just another storied world turned by-the-book Disney franchise.

Well, you see, that's just the thing. He was brought on for Episode VIII with at least the basic concept and direction for the story already given to him. He didn't/doesn't really have a whole lot to do with all the complaints being levied against this current trilogy going on that started with The Force Awakens.

I'm still hoping The Last Jedi delivers. And I agree doing a new trilogy based in and around the KOTOR-verse would be amazing, but you have to give him the benefit of the doubt here. People complaining now that he won't use KOTOR material better not be the same people complaining that TFA was just a rehash of A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. ;)

He's working for Disney so LOL to original ideas in established franchises.

Well . . .

Then I guess Rian Johnson hasn't seen the three mind-blowing trailers for the game, because who WOULDN"T want a trilogy based on those . . .

:-/

This would be badass. run these as spinoffs like the upcoming Solo flick. I remember reading a collection of short stories years ago about all the bounty hunters that were summoned by Vader to hunt for Solo and it was awesome.

I have been hoping for something along the lines of Rogue Squadron, just because it is more about space and less about Jedi. They are also talking about live action tv show so that could easily be either Rogue Squadron or Bounty Hunters or even Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina type stories.

Wouldn't mind seeing a sith centric story. nothing better than a movie that actually makes you root for the bad guy.
