The Xbox One X Makes the PlayStation 4 Pro Feel like a Half-Measure

There are a lot of patched games (dozens) that are supported by the PS4 Pro...so they didn't have to buy rebuy the "enhanced" versions of the games.

Wait. People had to rebuy games to get Xbox One X features? That's crazy if it's true.

The XB1X patch for The Witcher 3 isn't even out, yet, so I don't know what your point here is?

The spread of disinformation grinds my gear, is all. FWIW I agree that the PS4 has much more interesting exclusive titles than the XB1, and I own both a PS4 Pro and XB1X.

I dont know how they would get me to upgrade. I have not turned on my Xbox One in over a year. But have recently played the PS4 because of the RPGs. I dont have the Pro though, I might consider if I had more than 2-3 hrs a week to play.

I like mine. No interest in a PS4 (not buying a whole system for JRPGs), and after working IT all day, no desire to fool with a PC, or spend money upgrading to stay current (not [H] I know, sue me). Getting the most out of my LG OLED and Atmos setup. Enhanced last gen games like Gear 3 look great. Finally got me to work on finishing it so i can play 4 (which looks INCREDIBLE)

My kids have a PS4 they rarely use. Over Thanksgiving time, I tried to buy them a game from Sony's app store. It wouldn't take my credit card. I recall having the problem last year as well. So, even though Sony might have better games, it wasn't letting me buy them.
With the old Xbox 360, never had any trouble. Oh well, they are more PC gamers anyway so that's all that matters to me.

Sounds like user error.

Unless something changed recently It doesn't seem that way, Ps4 pro has the exclusives many of which blow away anything on the xbox one x graphically and even competes with pc games minus the framerate.

So it doesn't compete with the PC then.

There's a lot of butthurt Sony fanboys in the thread. It's best to just ignore their idiocy.

I would say there are a lot of people who are disappointed with the XBX library thus far. But whatever makes you feel good about yourself.

Be disappointed all you want but people spouting "They gots no gamez!!" is just outright horse shit.

A real gamer plays games on all platforms...not just sit and jack it to one like these folks seem to be doing.

The Xbox One X has a massive library of games and it's a legit powerhouse. What it lacks is a library of good exclusive games. That's what is holding it back.
If someone is only interested in multi-platform console games, it's easily the best choice on the market. Catch is, that means no Bloodborne, Uncharted, Last of Us, Nioh, Horizon, Mario, Pokemon, etc. etc.
Gears, Cuphead, Forza, and Halo don't make up for that. Hence I'd recommend the PS4 or PS4 Pro over the Xbox One X for 90% to prospective gamers.

If you could only pick one, then I agree that the PS4 Pro is still the best choice.

You don't have to rebuy games. They are upgraded automatically.

I have nothing against MS or Xbox (clearly, I find myself defending MS half the time around here...), but they just haven't had the games I want to play, and by that I mean what Domingo pointed out above - they don't have exclusive games that I would need to buy an Xbox to play. If I have a decent PC, I can already play 99.9% of the games I would want, which makes sense because it's all Microsoft. Games on the PS4 and Switch I can't get elsewhere.

XB1 and XBX make sense if you don't have a decent gaming PC or if you are really, super into Halo.

Honestly, if Xbox had all of the exclusives, people would still complain about the Xbox. I have both consoles and don't have to worry about whether or not I can play something.

Nobody complained about the Xbox 360's line-up because it DID have plenty of exclusives. Since those days Sony either went out and co-licensed them or the franchises fell out of favor.
The fact that the Xbox One had a slow start and slightly lesser hardware (for a higher price) certainly didn't help matters either.

It's the current patch, where you're limited to 30 fps. And I think it's a valid point, and both consoles, the developers push the latest buzzwords rather than going for the experience. Would you rather have a game run @ 1440p upscaled to 4k at a constant 60 fps, or running at 4k somewhere between 25-30 fps? The first I feel gives a better experience, but MS pushes 4k so hard, that developers go for that rather than the framerate. Does 4k look better? Yes, but not to the point that 60 fps doesn't feel better.

A common theme we see in this thread is, gamers choose a particular console based on exclusive content. Console exclusives is dead btw. You have access console exclusives on PC, maybe not all, but a good chunk of them through PS Now and Xbox Play Anywhere. Pretty much every AAA game that comes out, is available for PC. Maybe consoles offer a cheaper upfront cost option to gaming, but in the long run, if you want better quality video, a better hardware upgrade path, cheaper price on games, a much larger list of both exclusive and non-exclusive of game titles that dwarfs consoles library, then go PC.

Edit: Forgot to mentioned you don't have to pay for multiplayer on PC unless it's a subscription base MMO like WoW. That game is PC exclusive. :D

Playstation Now
Xbox Play Anywhere

I have more games on my XB1 than my PS4pro right now. I have the GOW4/Halo 5/Forza 7/COD WWII. My PS4 pro is currently taking my time tho due to Horizon ZD.
Most of these games are comparable to my PC in terms of graphics and I have 1080ti. Only thing these consoles are limited to are the fluidity of G-Sync/Freesync and over 60+fps, otherwise, it's pretty damn impressive how consoles have become.

Question as a potential 1st time console buyer. Would the Xbox one x be worth the extra price over the PS4 Pro for someone with a 60" 1080P HDTV and no HDR? I mean would it currently make a difference on an older tv?

YES! :) I have mine on a Sony Bravia 50 Inch 1080P TV from 2013 and it looks fantastic!

Thanks, I've been waiting for a console to be good enough graphically at 1080P to be worth it. Rather not deal with pc gaming headaches anymore to be honest. Just kind of out grown the whole upgrade and reload cycle thing...

I would probably save more money if I had out grown that cycle as well but, I am 50 now and still doing it. (It might be because I can afford to do it now well I could not 25 years ago, or at least could not afford it.)

It can, but I wouldn't exactly take the plunge right this instant unless you're in a time crunch...like Christmas. The thing about the Xbox One X is that it should be able to do 1080p/60 on pretty much anything. Problem is, the developer has to enable that functionality and not all of them are. Many are adding 4K/30 instead. That doesn't help you at all. Only time will tell how many devs push for 1080p/60 options.
The same thing applies to the PS4 Pro, but it has more/better exclusives, a larger library, and is cheaper.
HDR's not that big of a deal, but both systems support it if you ever decide to go that route.

Still don't see the point you're trying to make. You were originally trying to say "Enhanced hasn't been a great experience for all games," but the Xbox One X Enhanced patch for The Witcher 3 hasn't been released, yet. So how can one judge how the XB1X is doing with Enhanced games by looking at a game that isn't even "Enhanced" yet? Some games not "Enhanced" benefit from the extra hardware while most don't, and this was talked about a lot long before the console was even released.

"The PS4 has the exclusives"

Well, I would think it's the games that matter on fixed platforms...

"The PS4 has the exclusives, but the Xbox One X has the power." So....Enjoy the "power" with all of those 10 year old games that are getting backwards compatibility then? Because you don't buy a console for "power", you buy it to play games you can't play anywhere else! If you want "power", you should be gaming on a proper PC! If you want unique games and experiences, you get a PS4 (slim or Pro) and play games that the PC will never see!

You sound like a Nintendo stuck in a Sony body :D
