Back in the day, Digital Audio Output on motherboards would offer-up both a TOSLINK SPDIF connector and a standard RCA-Jack style SPDIF connector. I have a 20foot run of HDMI going to a projector, and I have a 30 foot run of RCA cable that carries 5.1 audio from my PC to my receiver.
Problem is as I now rush to upgrade to an 8700k system, I need a new motherboard, and they all seem to only offer the TOSLINK connector, not the RCA connector anymore. Does anyone know of a MB that still offers both outputs that will work with the new 8000 Coffee Lakes?
I think the answer is "welcome to the 21st century" but wanted to check first, I don't believe you can get a 30 or 40 foot run of optical cable to actually carry a signal reliably, but it did work fine over the copper cable (using Pro Logic to handle the surround mixing).
TY
