Did I luck out with ASUS warranty on my 970?

Sent in my almost 3 year old GTX 970. It stopped working in games, Windows Error 43, only worked 2D on one display only.

I had removed the heat sink from the card a while back which damaged the stickers they put over the screws.

I had flashed my BIOS and left it flashed to my own custom BIOS because I was too lazy to put back the original one.

They received the 970GTX late last week, today I got an Email from them with a tracking number. So the turnaround time was only like 2 days.

I can't determine for sure if they are sending me back a fixed card or my old card. All it says in the status is:

Your product has shipped. Please visit the courier site for more information about estimated delivery dates, rescheduling delivery or pickup arrangements from your local station.

What do you guys think? Is ASUS warranty not that bad here, 2 days turnaround time and not giving me crap about removing heat sink and flashing a new bios?

OR are they sending me back my original card unfixed?

Could be either. I have had them send back the same broken card several times even after sending clear directions on how to replicate the issues. I had to call every time after receiving the card to see if anything was actually done. No information was included in the ticket or package.

After all of my poor experiences with them I would assume they saw the card was tampered with and are returning it unrepaired.

There's no way to tell if you had a good experience or not until you get the card back.

If they denied warranty, they would've told you and asked you to pay for return shipping.

I've had good experiences with 2 products that I've shipped back to them, a 980 ti and Asus Rampage V motherboard. Both times they sent me refurbished parts (or they could've been new since they looked new..).

Edit: I forgot about the Asus Swift that I sent them last year as well. I bought a defective ASUS swift on ebay that had no physical damage, It was still under warranty so I submitted an RMA and they sent me a brand new one within a week. It was one of those wholesale etailers on ebay and I paid $150 for the monitor lol.

I was checking the status online more closely and it looks like the card they are sending me has a different serial number than my card. Even in the memo section they wrote "Original S/N" with my old serial number. So it looks good that I'll be getting a new card.

I don't see what all the fuss is over ASUS warranty, they were very fair and very quick with my return. I would have no problem buying an ASUS 1080TI.

Well this is how warranties SHOULD work. With all the crap ASUS in the US has gotten over their warranties, I'm sure a lot of people didn't get the same treatment.

Granted, with the number of warranties ASUS gets, I suppose only a "small" percentage experience issues. (They'd probably be out of business if over half the people who went in for warranties weren't treated so well) However, small % x large volume = still quite a number of people who got screwed.

Agreed, the reason I flashed the bios and removed the heat sink was I was trying to fix another problem with the card. Which I fixed with the bios.

The current problem that finally finished off my card was an odd problem I was having for a while. Basically, when my room got cold in the winter one of my monitors would be all blurry and it would take a few minutes for it to warm up and it would be fine.

One day while I was in windows one of the monitors got blurry even with it warmed up which was odd. Then about a couple of minutes later I lost triple monitor support and card was not recognized anymore. However, it did output 2D on one single monitor port.

So none of the issues were from me doing anything wrong, card had issues from the beginning.
