Essential Phone $399.00 with 360 camera at Amazon.

Best Buy has it for $450.

Ok...it's hit $449 a couple times at BB with a throw in Cricket wireless $30-40 card and sim (probably just flip them). I'm tempted, but I don't know if I'm tempted enough to drop $475+ after tax.

I just did it again with the Cricket wireless...it's $399 for phone (with 360 camera supposedly) and then $42 for cricket stuff ($50 value), so $442 total which is $470 after tax.

Why does all the good non-super expensive phones have crappy cameras? Can't they just rip-off samsung or google? lol

I hear mixed things. Granted most of the early reviews didn't like the camera, but there have been several software updates which should have helped (some say they have, some haven't).

... I got an LG V20 for 280 bucks or so at Newegg (yes, new) fairly recently. It was kind of an impulse buy, but I'm not sure why I would get this phone over it. I mean this doesn't even have a headphone jack. Hell I think the V20 is still available under 300 at many places. The signal is a bit iffier than my LG G3 (might be a software thing, I think it's bad at switching towers when it needs to), but otherwise it's a really high quality piece of tech for the price.

And it has an otterbox available for it, and swappable battery (which I'm not sure if this does, I didn't look too into that side).

Personally, I have a bad taste in my mouth for LG after the G4/Nexus 5x mess. I picked up a Pixel XL 2 but sent it back in favor of my OG Pixel 1. Probably just keep that for now.

Did you all select phone + camera or just phone? You have to select the phone + camera to get the deal.

I've read that the hardware is fine, its the camera software. Apparently if you take the time to sideload/hack in the google playstore camera app, its a huge improvement. So perhaps with all the software updates they've already released, it will eventually be fine without needing to use a different camera app?

Yeah, it was sold out for quick shipping. You can buy it at $399 with the camera, but it ships in 1-2 months now.

I read that too, but then I read it still isn't a great camera experience even with the Google app. I don't really need a high end camera, so I could live with it.

Ahh did not see that. Mine will arrive Wednesday.

I've been needing a new phone since my Note 5 is literally falling apart. (No, I do not abuse my phones. This is a fight I've had with Samsung for a while now...)

It's still available at bestbuy for $449 with the camera and you can add cricket or metropcs cards to drop the price $50 to $399 and then scalp the cards. I had it in my cart, entered my credit card info, but couldn't pull the trigger at $470 after tax.

Had it in my cart at Amazon but hesitated. Hate the notch up top, need a better camera, tax = meh. Everyone and their mother is scalping the 360 camera so didn't expect much there.

I'll wait for the first Snapdragon 835 phone that I can get for $400 out the door.

check swappa for moto z2 force - they are going for around 400 I picked up a verizon version for 375 mint. Better camera than the essential (dual) better screen (amoled) and shatter proof screen works with moto mods...and pretty much stock android

Purchased 2 sets during the deal, one for each of my kids. The 360 camera is neat but between the two of them, they really only need one so returned one and got over $100 back. Finally, WHERE ARE THE DAMNED CASES at that has a slot for the 360 camera? There's only a single maker right now.
