Help me choose my CPU!

Hi all, I've been away from the game for a while but it is finally time to upgrade my system. I currently have a 3570K and am looking to upgrade as I have been experiencing sluggish performance from my photo editing software. Photo editing (Lightroom and photoshop) will be my main uses but I'd also like to be able to game and do some light video editing.

My question is, should I go for something like the 8700K, the 8700, or 7700? Space is a major concern as I live in a small studio (artist life) so I plan this build in something super tiny like a Cooler Master 110. My options for cooling in that case look to be limited to a 120mm AIO solution. That said, would it even be worth it to get the unlocked Intel CPUs in my case? How far could I take it given my cooling constraints and how would that compare to just turning on the turbo on the locked chips? If it makes a difference, I have already purchased two 16GB sticks of DDR4-3200.

Thank you for your help!

with a delid can probably still manage a 5 ghz overclock, the K is faster without an OC anyways so i'd get the 8700k a 7700 k or non k wouldn't be anywhere near as big of an upgrade in performance.

Where are you getting this? A 120mm AIO can support an overclocked 8700k, no problem.

I agree and he said small case so his results will be totally different from what you posted

I posted the only 8700k/h80i I could find in a small case

With a delid you could probably have an 8700k and if it would fit I would recommend an arctic liquid freezer 120 if you don't want to delid I would get an 8600k.

Video editing demands high memory bandwidth, I would avoid 8700k and other consumer CPUs as they only have 2 channel memory. The best CPU would be HEDT, either 7820x or 7900x, for some reason 7800x is very low on cpubenchmark.net single threaded so something not right with those. Personally I would stretch for the 7900x not only for the additional PCIe lanes, but also it has 2 AVX512 units per core, whereas the 7820x and 7900x only have 1. AVX512 is the main reason I myself am interested in the HEDT line, as I only ever run 1 graphics card.

I built a Photoshop/Lightroom/Premier system using an A4-SFX ITX case and the 8700 non-k. I can tell you that an L9i can't cool the CPU, but it's close. A 120mm AIO could cool an 8700K without issue.
