Delid

The entire process from start to finish took me about 45 minutes. I was slow and deliberate though since it was my first time

Removing the lid itself takes like 30seconds if you have a good delid tool

Most of the time is spent removing the black sealant. I did it very slowly and carefully, I'm sure you could do it faster but I was afraid of damaging anything.

For a first timer, I'd set aside an hour in a well-lit area free of distractions.

After you've gone through it once, subsequent delids are much less nerve-wracking, making it feel easier and take less time.

This is what you want to de-lid your CPU.

I've popped off two 4790Ks for practice and did a 7700K on a new build.

This tool is so slick it took all the anxiety out of the process. Cost me all of 39 bucks.

It makes the re-lid a piece of cake as well. Great little vice that puts nice even pressure on the IHS.

Average of 18-20 degree drop on the CPU temp at loads.

Wow people are actually seeing 20C drops in temperature from doing a delid? I haven't paid this much attention but I picked up an 8600k for $265 yesterday and 20C lower temperature is huge. I'll have to go check some videos and order that delid tool.

Expect 10-20C. Don't have expectations that you easily get a 20C reduction.
