My wifes Iphone 5 SE recently developed a peculiar problem. The upper left and right corners of the screen have lost their touch response. You can click the back button on the left or menu button on the right (in some apps) 10 times before it responds to the input. I think the problem may extend a little lower than the corners but there is seldom anything to press there, it seems to be responding to a drag down on the sides normally.

The phones less than 2 years and mint. Any idea what could be causing this?

mine does that sometimes when I am trying to press the "go back to mail" text and icon in the upper top left corner.
I just tested it just now and it worked fine.

I have to admit, any time I see "touch sensitivity" these days I can't help but think it's another reference to someone being sexually harassed at this point.

Surely I can't be alone in that.

"Next up at 11 on FOX News... rampant reports of iPhone SE owners sexually harassing... their phones?!?!?!"

I've noticed this with an iPhone 5s I have at work for testing. Some of the edge touch is not very responsive. I don't know exactly how old this phone is. I just purchased an iPhone SE last month, and the touch is much more responsive. Maybe just a wearing out of the sensors?

I wonder if that's even possible since it's just a grid inside the glass. But some searching says that the iPhone 6 suffers from "touch disease" caused by the chip responsible for touch separating from the board. I wonder if it affects the 5 se.

It's not a 5se.. it's just an se..

And no the touch disease was caused by the whole phone physically bending and flexing. The iPhone 5 design which your se still uses was extremely Stout and does not bend like the 6 and 6 plus do.

@OP:

Sounds like the (screen) digitizer is going bad or just need reseating. The digitizer sits between the glass and the LCD and is what registers the touches (in a grid-like fashion). I don't know if it's possible to just replace the digitizer of your particular model, but if it is, it should be significantly cheaper to replace it than the LCD display. Since you have to disassemble the sandwich of the glass + digitizer + LCD, it's pretty much the same work as replacing the screen itself.

I think i'll just call Apple, see what they say and go from there. There is hardly any information on any sort of issues or defects that occur with iphones. It seems like when iphones break they basically go in the trash.
