"Mad" Mike Hughes is going to launch himself over the ghost town Amboy, in the Mojave Desert, this Saturday and televise it on his YouTube channel. He built his rocket by himself and plans on flying over 1 mile in distance and up to an altitude of 1,800 feet. All of this from a guy who says he doesn't believe in science because it's just a bunch of formulas. All I have to say is good luck because you're going to need it, Mike.

On the morning of the launch, Hughes will heat about 70 gallons of water in a stainless steel tank and then blast off between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. He plans to go about a mile — reaching an altitude of about 1,800 feet — before pulling two parachutes. They’re discouraging fans - safety issues - but it will be televised on his YouTube channel . He said he’s been in contact with the Federal Aviation Administration and the Bureau of Land Management.

Wait this is a steam powered pneumatic rocket? Someone needs to catch him up on modern tech, he should be getting coca cola and unilever as sponsors and power this with coke and mentos. That's um.. cold fusion?

If he has enough energy to go a mile, this will be ugly.

I do rockets, and the g forces are going to be horrible.

That said, everyone has the right to decide how they die. :) At least in my book.

And he thinks the Earth is flat. ummmmmmm

And he is planning on running for governor of California.

So he's created a huge hot water heater with a defective safety valve and he's gonna ride it? Wonder how many G's he'll pull?

Hope those parachutes are automatic!

lol, this reminds me of the old legend of the guy who stole a booster rocket and strapped it to his car. It didn't end well.

I'm totally invested in this to the tune of $3 million or so. Payment to be made after the space leap.

Pretty cool ambitions. If he were to do it right, it'd be even better.

I want to watch the YouTube stream. Should be entertaining either way.

His life, his choice. At least he picked an abandoned area to do this. If this goes horribly wrong, the local critters might enjoy some steam cooked snacks.

Let's hope he doesn't strike an innocent photography drone mid flight.

I'm thinking more along the lines of: "I hope no first responders sprain an ankle recovering his corpse."

Won't someone think of the people that have to clean this shit up?

:)

Meh, our first responders have about 12 heroin overdoses to deal with daily, so a dead youtuber is an easy call.
Anyone who goes to his Youtube channel is a moron for supporting him.

He's a "flatearther" so that is enough to warn you.

Wonder if the stupid asses who actually pay to watch this are going to get their money back when it doesn't launch?

I wonder what the Vegas odds are on this guy actually surviving this stunt? 50-1? 100-1? 1000-1? I would be willing to bet $1 that he lives, just for the lol's.

in before the "boiler" accident of the year occurs. shrapnel through his thighs as he bleeds out screaming to the ground. But hope he makes it, sounds like its gonna end in tragedy. But then again, proably some "technicality" will occur and prevent liftoff after he has 1 kajillion subs.

I am worried about the even less bright who might copy him.

How can this not fail badly?

I recall reading h2o2 (pure unlike the 2% at the drug store) plus water makes for a great deal of steam.

part of me wants to watch the major fuckup, but at the same time I don't want to support him with views......

Better just re-watch the bombing scene from Dr. Strangelove again for inspiration. Chances are the real thing will be about as exciting as the US vs Japan giant robot battle.

Unfortunately there is no way to watch this live without PPV. So it looks like I just get to hear how this dude blew himself up instead of enjoying it first hand. There is no way I'm financially contributing to an anti-science flat earther.
