iPhone X ‘Hack’ Brings Windows 95 And SimCity 2000 To Apple’s 2017 Flagship

How are they doing this on an ARM chip?

I remember when someone did this on the Asus Zenfone 2 but it packed a super lightweight x86 Atom SoC, so that made sense.

Maybe he uses Bochs?
AFAIR, Win95 C runs really smooth on an 586er with 133Mhz. Another point is, that he seams to use some software renderer for the gpu part.

OMG that's amazing... wait... can't you run a DOS emulator in pretty much anything? Even smartwatches, Rpi, IoT devices, etc....

If I'm to be impressed, Windows ME.

I wish I hadn't lost the plastic POS watch that came with my Win ME purchase. Or, better yet, I wish I had the money that I spent on ME. Win 2000 was much better.

Sorry for going off topic. Still angry. I hold grudges.

I loved this. God I miss the easy menu's, and not windows 10 menus where you have to use Cortana to even find what you want.

Windows 95 got more regular security updates than mobile operating systems ever have.

There is two things I give credit to ME for:
1. How to partition a disk
2. Know what I can put on other disks

I can reinstall windows now and be back to work in an hour w/o an image ;)

Edit: I may be getting them confused and should give more credit to XP for most of that (i'd have to reinstall XP every 6 months of average). Quickly re-installig windows was definitely learned w/ ME though

That's because it needed them. Its not exactly a badge of honor; like bragging that your car has to get fixed a lot.

WinME worked great after the second major patch. Our shop got a butt load of cheap keys that we used to refurbish laptops with. Ran great, had no complaints.

I can remote control my Windows 10 desktop from my iPhone, and it would work just like that video...

Well that is pretty cool that someone figured out how to make an iPhone X useful!

Now they need to find an acceptable way, a problem facing ALL app devs, to work around the idiotic screen 'notch' and use up as much of the screen real estate as possible :D

I'm with you there.

I was building systems at the time and selling them as a sort of side activity. There were similar other sales with the same scenario, but I specifically remember once building a PC for an acquaintance and it was supposed to come with WinME which was new at the time. There was a backlog at the disti on OEM packs of WinME so I couldn't provide it for weeks. The buyer knew this and opted to wait instead of getting 98SE.

After many aforementioned weeks of the buyer regularly asking if it was available yet and god knows how many calls to the disti - it arrived! I promptly and proudly gave it to the buyer who, just 1 day later, said 'ummm... can I have 98SE instead?'.

I will never forgive MS for this chapter and the unnecessary and wasted stress involved. :)

my money is on QEMU, a 100% emulator. Any chip can be emulated as long as the runtime of QEMU exists for the target chip.

QEMU exists for ARM so assuming they found a way to run QEMU on IphoneX they can then install windows onto it. It would be dog slow as the entire ship is simulated rather than passthrough of OPCODE .

pretty cool - Still have Sim City 2k lol (spent a lot of time on that game lol). I'm trying to remember - but it was close to a decade ago I remember a co-worker playing Quake1 and multiplayer... on a phone... with another co-worker with the same phone. and ran pretty well lol. Can't remember on what though lol :p

That said... playing Sim City 2k on a phone would suck without mouse support.

I'd rather see DOS/Win3.11 installed. The Win 3.11 interface is actually a bit better for touch than win9x

DOSBox can run on pretty much any Jailbroken iPhone if I recall. (Been a while since I touched Apple gear)

If memory serves Apple blocks emulators from the App store for some reason, but DoSBox for iOS is available in Cydia

(if that's even what people use anymore. As I said, been a while)

DOSBox can be installed on any Android device easily though :) There are several different releases in the play store.
