SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

For the riser, you wanna have the pcp behind the holes you screw into, meaning the pcp should be more towards the mobo and you're NOT trying to screw into the riser's pcb(meaning if you're trying to do this, the riser isn't even in all the way). If you have trouble fitting it, which you could very well be, I'd try lifting the metal plate up a little with a screwdriver so the riser can slide in easier. You can counteract this small bend with the screws when you tighten it down.

Sorry if that was a terrible explanation. I tried <_<

i had to do that with the screwdriver after that it worked fine

There are a few Sentry offers on Ebay if anyone is interested.

It's now been about 8 weeks since the 7th shipment was sent. Hopefully everyone has their own little case for the holiday shopping deals and the winter.

You guys really outdid yourself over at the Dr Zaber team.

Please fix the image link :D

Also can you tell me what clocks do you have on you RipJaws and if XMP works without problems on them?
I've got the 3200MHz kit and I can't get them working past on 2933 on biostar board. I'm wondering if this is generally problem with Ryzen and those sticks or the biostar board.

I was waiting for someone to ask this question :)
You can use the one from Reeven Steropes RC-1206b CPU Cooler

I have tried with them, but they’ve refused, you can send an email and try your luck.
I bought the cooler to use the clips and the fan, it is a good 120x12mm fan, you can use it somewhere else.

Guys anyone knows which rx 580 is compatible with the sentry?

The compatibility specifications are not updated so it's a little messy. For now I found that XFX 580 models fit, but I'm interested in a Sapphire NITRO+

Sapphire measure from the bottom of the PCIe pins. I had a 470 Nitro+ which was 125mm. All of the new Nitro cards seem to be 135mm so even with the recessed power connectors they probably won't fit. The Pulse cards may fit at 125mm with a recessed power connector (I think these cards just reused the previous generation coolers). You could always find a store with a good return policy and exchange it if it doesn't fit.

The point is for you to understand how dimensions work and that you should compare them yourself to make the decision on your own.

The mass is made by vendors measuring cards differently, because people don't generally care about dimensions in tower chassis, and Sentry is simply one of those cases where it really matters.

Btw RX580 is actually slightly updated RX480 so most of the cards will have same pcb layout and coolers. Because of this you can start from the list and check if there's a 580 version like a 480 that is compatible, before comparing the dimensions.

Yes, defintely rigth! I've seen they are pretty much the same, but on the shappire site there are different specs for the 480 and the 580. I think the problem is only the kind of measure (PCB only or from the bottom of the bracket), as you said not all the producers measure their product the same way.

I was only asking if there is someone who has a Sapphire 580 on hands and if can give me more datails on its effective dimensions. I'm interested in all the possibile gpu compatibilities I can collect! :playful::playful:

Can someone give me some advice as to whether or not this custom cooler will fit a gtx 1080 aero oc inside the sentry? I want to try and improve the sound level of my sentry without sacrificing to much power.

4) We're supporting dual slot gpu's which is ~41mm of card total thickness.

Just measured my case. At best you have ~48mm.

I measured the outside of the case and I'm getting about 67mm the official size dimensions of the sentry list it as 66mm in thickness. Which makes me think it will fit, correct me if I'm wrong.

The thickness of the whole case doesn't matter here. The GPU is located in the center of the case and not aligned to the top with its PCB.

Regardless of additional space below the GPU, we recommend sticking to reference thickness of dual slot GPU because of two things:

1) There's an angled edge that will make installation harder, especially if the card has DVI connectors and is full length 295~305 mm.

2) Putting fans close to the venting holes will make them significantly louder - it's the same problem like with the Cryorig C7 inside Sentry and A4-SFX

Okay thanks for the help. (y)

If you want to improve thermals and noise I'd suggest buying a 1080FE cooler through ebay. The vapor chamber, blower cooler really isn't bad. It's not as quiet as some of the bigger open air cards but it'll definitely be better than the MSI Aero cooler which lacks a vapor chamber iirc.

I have received i5 8400 and asrock Z370 mobo for Christmas now deciding Vega 56 or 64 to go with sentry and ultrawide free sync monitor or 4K free sync monitor

I have a question has any wine been able to fit trident z ram kit inside the sentry? I assume it should work with a noctua l9i

if you go vega 64 you will have to get an sfx-l psu, i have a 650w sfx (as big as they get in that form factor) and even then i still get occasional power problems (spontaneously turning off)

its not a matter of wether it works with the cooler, the ram sticks have to be able to fit under the 2.5" drive rack if you are using it. From what i have seen, trident z should fit regardless as its under 34mm

Hey thanks for the response maybe I should look into getting the Vega 56 I already have Corsair sfx 600 already I thought that would be plenty for the Vega 64 especially because I have a i5 8400 65 watt cpu with 300 watt gpu should be ok no? Especially if tweaked like some reviewers have done with the voltage which lowered power consumption considerably as well as increased performance

It seemed to be partially due to the power supply coming from the wall in my dorm as i tried it at home and i seem to be having vastly fewer issues. I have my 64 undervolted as well and that reduced issues at the dorm

I have a vega 56 with vega 64 bios mod. I have a 4770k and SF600.

I have had no restarts yet.

Ive also tried a vega 64 before but returned it, also no restart problems.

I recommend you undervolt your vega when you get it to keep temps and noise down to 2400 RPM.

i have my vega 56 at stock vega 64 clocks and HBM overclocked to 1020mhz from (stock 800mhz)

I thought I'd give everyone here a heads-up about Corsair's Black Friday sale. They have the SF600 (refurbished) for $62.39 after applying the BLACKFRIDAY17 discount code.

You'd better hurry though—they'll go fast! Good luck.

Hi guys.

I have an unopened Sentry and I want to sell it. Would this thread be the proper one to post it?

Thanks got one!

I actually bought one of these last July, Newegg had them for $89.99 which was the same price as the SF450. I was a bit leery of buying a refurbished PSU but it works perfectly, very quiet. Other than coming in a plain brown box it works as good as new.

I believe it comes with 1 year warranty vs 7 years on new

I have a question here I’m going to do a monitor upgrade for my sentry build was hmthinking lg 4K ips feee sync display Newegg has them in sale plus extra 50 dollars off I’m torn between getting the 32inch or 27inch...I have 1080p 27 inch ips display now I like the size but 32 inch just sounds massive....wouldn’t 4K in 27 inch look a lot better than on 32inch due to the pixel density?

Also if anyone is running a 2.5 hard drive in there sentry I would like to know how it tolerates heat and if I should just go all sad innstead already have 850 eco going to use as boot drive was thinking about 1 terabyte ssd or hard drive. If anyone is using Asrock Z370 itx Mobo could possibly tell me how it’s working out what ram there using and if any problems etc with it?

I’ve got a 2TB HDD with 0 issues. I believe it operates around 50C, out of town and can do a quick double check then. Also I’m able to fit the drive with two screws above the pcie ribbon cable as I have max height ram that only leave a mm when the case is closed. It survived a full move into my new house too.

I second the 32 in
