Assassin’s Creed Origins

the game is great but ubisoft are playing fucking games saying drm is not hitting cpu's hard. i just launched the game and sat at the menu and watched it eat up 100% of my cpu. never have i had this issue - not with witcher 3, bf1, nothing. despite how good the game is it makes me wish i never purchased it and will be way more cautious in the future with buying ubisoft games.

Post a screenshot.

And how do you know its the anti-tamper causing CPU utilization at "the menu", and not preloaded game processes? Provide evidence.

Cool video from a piracy subreddit btw. They sure are salty about the game not being cracked yet. Seriously. You've never seen bigger toddler meltdowns over not being able to pirate a "Ubi-shit" game. They're adorable. I love them.

Took me forever to figure out but in case anybody else runs into a problem with your life not regenerating - unequip your cursed weapon.

Dang. That "flesh decay" trap is no joke and esp. when you've leveled things up several times. It's almost too good. I had a few situations where I started to wonder if it was doing it automatically but it wasn't. It just spreads.

Apologies if this was answered already, but I'm considering buying this and wonder if it's another Ubisoft open-world game with thousands of icons for repetitive activities splattered all over the map, or if they focused on meaningful content this time.

There are practically no "stupid chasing a flying piece of paper" quests.

There are lots of side quests though, some meaningful, some just "go kill the baddies in the cave" type quests.

Yes, they removed pretty much all of the collection quests.

The only 'collection' quests left are one where you have to kill all of these really tough bounty hunter guys, and another where you visit these star shrine things.

Everything else are side quests; although most of the side quests are pretty shit. There are some good ones here and there though.

Running an old xeon and 1060, gameplay is smooth and im quite enjoying this game. i've never seen a game use this much cpu, but as long as it stays smooth i dont care.

Only lag I have seen is when loading from my HDD drive and happens only when game is first launched. Should have loaded it on my SSD drive.

Btw spent now already 20 hours and level 26. Game is absolutely fantastic. Reminds me of Witcher 3 but with better everything apart from maybe the story and combat (not to say I am not enjoying the crap out of combat in this one).

I give it a 9.5/10.

I'm not sure I'd go as high as 9.5 but I really can't disagree with anything you wrote.

For me it's coming to a real tight grudge match between this vs Horizon Zero Dawn for my personal GOTY.

Is it playable yet or should I wait for one more patch?

edit: Looks like 1.04 is still on the way.

Define playable?

It's been playable since launch. 1.03 appears to have fixed the random frame drops some people were getting. I get a lot of CPU use in Alexandria, but I'm still rocking a 4790k and a GTX1070, and my frame rate never drops below 60.

I only run into stuttering if I try and stream to my htpc.

I guess if you are trying to run 4k or something there could be issues.

I do not see why the game pounding the CPU is an issue if the frame rate is high and it does not affect performance. Apparently a game taxing system resources is a bad thing.

Game is playable. I still get occasional frame drops w/ G-Sync enabled but the 1.03 patch cleared up most of the issues. At this point I think most issues are down to Windows 10 FCU/Nvidia drivers with me and not the game itself.

damn, you guys make me want to get this. 9.5 witcher 3 horizon comparisons? didn't think i would be hearing that.

Ezio is my favorite AC outfit, and I see it's locked behind some b.s. Uplay achievement that involves beating a bunch of old AC games. Hopefully I can find a hack or something to unlock it.

Is it? All I did was blow some of my racked up Uplay points that you get the same way Steam Achievements and stuff like that works. Piece of cake.

I don't consider it as good as Witcher 3 personally. The main quest line has some serious problems, and most of the side-quests are pretty mediocre again from a story standpoint.

But it's still a really good open world game with a lot of things to do and the quality of the graphics alone make it worth playing.

This is a good assessment.

Ubi has made AC:O Witcher 3 like in how side quests are handled, and a few other areas, but I would still put Witcher 3, way ahead of AC:O.

Hit level 28 in Ass Creed Origins and killed a lizard. Now going for the crocodile. Man, one of the most amazing games I have played in 2017.
23 hours in in about 5 days lol.

Weak game. Too much endless horse riding back and forth, they gutted stealth mechanics in favor of Witcher-style swordplay. NONE of the gear slots benefit stealth at all, either. Enemies have 100-yard hawk eye vision, they chase you FOR-FUCKING-EVER if you're detected. Even if you run a mile away and hide inside a cave under a bush, ENEMIES KNOW WHERE YOU ARE! Eagle Vision is gone and now replaced by a 'scan' key that you have to hold for like 5 seconds to trigger. Controls are really messing me up since ALL the categories (out of combat controls, combat controls, vehicles, etc) are all combined together. So you can only bind spacebar to ONE action regardless if you're in or out of combat or on your horse etc. Only 1 quest at a time shows up on your map, so you have to go to your quest log, switch quests, then go back to the map to see where your quests are. Also the game runs like hot garbage, but I can at least hold 60fps nearly all the time w/ both my CPU and GPU hovering around 90% load from start to finish.

Possibly my least favorite AC game of all time, although I didn't play 3. Certainly worse than Black Flag, Unity, and Syndicate, making it the worst AC in the last 4 or 5 years. I think I'm gonna dump this and do my 4th playthrough of Syndicate. I'd seek a refund but I claimed a promo code.

3/10. Not recommended unless you're a Witcher 3 fanboy, because this is not an Assassin's Creed game. Ya fucked it all up, Ubisoft.
Maybe it gets better the farther you go? I'm only about 5 hours into it. I'll wait for 1 or 2 more patches and give it a shot. Maybe after I finish my build in a few weeks.

Y'all funny.

Like I said Witcher 3 fans will LOVE this game but it is a poor, poor excuse for an Assassin's Creed game. Ubisoft clearly ripped off CDPR. That's a good thing for most people but for us vintage AC fans, it's crap. I also didn't enjoy Witcher 3 but for different reasons.

I will say I love the exploration in this game, Senu is really well done. I like how you can fly the eagle while auto-riding your horse, there's a lot of range and height so you can look around. I'm also glad they FINALLY added a time skip option so you can play at NIGHT like a good assassin.

I did have a good time unlocking towers and exploring. Not sure there's much else for me here, beyond that. My biggest, game-breaking complaint is how they ruined stealth, which basically ruins the entire game for me.

Another thing: Why did Skyrim get criticized for its shitty compass but AC:O gets praised for removing the radar and replacing it with the exact same shitty compass? The 1D compass SUCKS. I hate having to open my map constantly.

Tainted I want a piece of whatever you are smoking. You can stealth the crap out of this game. I have raided full 3 spear bases without being detected even once.

Stealth is fantastic in this game.

I can agree about the compass but I like the clean hud in this one.

Teetering about getting this game. I loved Witcher 3 and am intrigued by the comparisons. I guess I'm just not ready for yet another AC game is what's holding me back, and still have DOS2 and ME:A to finish.

I guess if someone could chime in on the following question: is Origins more like Unity or Syndicate (or is it more like Black Flag)? I'm one of the three people in the world, but I loved Unity (and Black Flag) while I thought Syndicate was a big fat M.E.H on almost every level.

It's like none of those. Out of the 3 games, it's most similar to Black Flag but I wouldn't really compare them. AC:O was made by the same Ubi team that made BF.
It feels like Witcher 3 but with AC climbing/parkour/stealth added. The only similarity to past AC games content-wise are enemy strongholds ("Restricted Areas") scattered around the map and of course sync towers.

I think I might pick this up after Thanksgiving. Going to be gone this weekend and next week so I won't have a chance to play until I get back, so might as well wait and see if any deals pop up when I get back. Ya'll have talked me into not waiting until next year like I was originally planning.
