So my brother is putting the parts together for a new build and asks me for some suggestions on the parts he has picked.

I am looking it over and recalling a video I just watched on YT comparing 2500k to the current i5 series in gaming.

I show him this video and a light goes off, hey I have that processor and motherboard used in the video sitting in a case in my closet.

I am fairly certain that the corsair cooler has died, so I dig through my closet a little deeper and find this.

Swap out the coolers head to the UPS store and pack it up.

It is currently en route and I will update when he gets it!

So my brother recieved the package from UPS in a different state than what I sent it in.

Needs less to say the case and Hyper212 were destroyed. Started an insurance claim to get the value of the items destroyed back.

In the meantime the rebuild continues.

Swapped over the power supply and motherboard combo in a new case. The corsair 200R. Perfect for his situation.

Went with the Corsair H55 I believe because we are gonna overclock the i5 2500K!

Not bad eh!

All in all the only new parts added to this build were the water cooler, gpu, and fans.

Everything else was parted out from builds that were 5 years old or more.

wow... what can Brown do for you. That sucks. A great case destroyed.

I did a rebuild of my old 2500K for a friend recently. Paired it to his 970 and 4.5ghz OC. Still games very well and should be good for at least another year or two.

I used to work for UPS so this was an embarrassing moment for me.

And we were blown away but the FPS boost from the overclock! Unless hardware fails him, he will keep it for a few years, maybe even more.

UPS suffers from a disconnect between Managment expectations and human performance. Automating people to expect robot like efficiency results in people rushing to meet unrealistic expectations just to keep food on their table. They need to pay more, hire more drivers, lower the workload, and charge a bit more. Fed Ex as well. I once had a Fed Ex driver throw a package from his truck onto my porch. When I confronted him he said he was behind on his route. Guy had knee, elbow, and wrist braces on. I felt for him so I didn't complain.

Enough ranting...

2500K overclock makes all the difference. Digital Foundry also found the platform was now ram speed sensitive so the faster DDR3 you can find, the better. As long as your not pushing Titan class GPUs, you should be fine. Also, you can always toss a 3770 which is about 20% slower than a 7700K clock for clock.

Always had much better luck with FedEx than UPS, but still your packing job has to be over the top with any carrier.

I personally helped the ups store personnel pack the computer. We wrapped the computer several times with bubble wrap and then jammed the box full of it. Someone literally threw this box from some kind of height, my guess was out of a truck.

For his purposes, the overclocked 2500k is crushing his old setup and he is beyond thrilled.

He was about to purchase a Ryzen 5 1600 and do a complete build. Found some reviews comparing the two chips with a gtx 1070 and said mail it to me!

Shipping a computer can be flaky. Either ship in the original box and packaging material or double box with tons of bubble wrap and peanuts.

Although shipping with a large hsf on is just asking for trouble.

So the Way I like to ship a full computer is to place all of the components in anti-static/bubble wrap INSIDE the case, but individually removed and placed inside the case for added protection. a ding or dent on the case doesnt matter, but leaving anything but the mobo mounted can really do harm to the components given the G forces felt when delivery companies throw packages.

Yeah, I ship things on a daily basis and you really have to be prepared for the worst.

One cool thing about living in the UK.

Delivery is much more relaxed.

They ring the door bell a few times

They hang around and chat.

They address you by name because we chat.

Yes, probably slower than in North America, but I think I prefer it this way.

Yeah we have to prepared for ours to be shot out of a potato gun onto our front step
