Link to deal

I've been looking at the LG OLED TVs hard over the past few months and IMO, this is a smoking deal.

[H] PC crew, if (like many of us) you've been using a Samsung JS/KS series TV and have been looking for something that's a true upgrade vs. a side-grade, it doesn't get any better than this (assuming you can handle the 55" size).

There must have been a recent price drop on the 2017s because I noticed today that prices across the entire lineup are a couple of hundred dollars less than they were just a couple of weeks ago. For example, the 55"/65" C7 is now listing for $1800/$2800 (respectively) on Amazon, and those have been sitting at the $1999/$2999 price point for a while.

From what I'm reading, all 2017 LG OLEDs have identical panels, performance, and image quality. The differences lie in things like the stand (mainly aesthetics) and internal speakers. Most of the glowing reviews that I've read seem to favor the C7 overall due to the value factor, and the B7 is basically the C7 with a different stand.

C7 reviews:
http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/c7-oled
https://www.digitaltrends.com/tv-reviews/lg-c7-oled55c7p-review/

At $1399, the 55" B7 is cheaper than the old 2016 B6 which is currently selling on Amazon for $1536. The 2017 models carry several improvements over their 2016 counterparts.

That is a killer price on that! I just a couple of months ago bought last years model, the C6 and have to say that there is simply no comparison to a non OLED TV. The picture is truly stunning on these. Only reason I went with the 2016 model was I wanted the 3D capabilities which on a 4K OLED is second to only the very vest theaters. Also on the 2016 model the C6 has a curved screen - does not bother me and really do not even notice but I know some do not like the curved sets. This newer 2017 C7 (this deal is for the B7) is flat and as mentioned does have some other minor improvements in certain aspects. The top half of the screen is incredibly thin, enough that you tend to be extremely careful moving it around in any way.

I do recommend heading over to avsforums if you get or are considering getting one (or any OLED TV) as there are incredibly long threads on these exact models with tons of tips and info as well as tips on how to minimize any potential issues like image retention and burn in.

I already have a 1080p 2015 version, otherwise I would have bought this in an instant. Don't care so much about 4k so much now. The jump from LCD to OLED has been more than enough for me (and even them jump from plasma).

I have the C7 and can attest to the amazing picture quality...the good thing about the 2017 LG line is that all the models use the same panel...so the B7 is just as good as the W7 minus a few extra features such as the audio

The 65 is also on sale for $2,149. OP can you add this to your thread title? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod...A82304&cm_re=OLED65B7A-_-89-007-489-_-Product
I plan on getting a 2018 version after I move in late Q2 next year. I am not sure if I should go 55 or 65.

Ah, was going to but looks like the 65" at that price is sold out now.

I'm going 55" since I'll be using it as a monitor (and even then, 55" is larger than I wanted to go but for this price I'll deal with the size).

If I was going to be using it as a TV, I'd be severely tempted to go 65" IF I had the proper room and viewing distance for it.

I haven't been this excited about an electronics purchase in quite some time. Early Christmas present to myself, I suppose. :)

Pixels are pixels. There isn't going to be a massive improvement in picture quality over an LCD ( LED ) TV. Where OLED shines is its lighting and perfect blacks. Of course all this relies on the source.. A DVD is going to look like shit on an OLED just like it would on a LED TV. But this is a nice price non the less. People looking for a new 55inch TV should totally get this.

Yeah looked into a little myself too. Eff that noise.

This is seriously the only piece of tech my life is missing at the moment, it's going to replace my miserably awful 55" 4k Seiki. Anyone think it's premature to jump on this so close to black Friday and cyber Monday?

It's possible you might find it $100 or so cheaper on or near BF, but I wouldn't take the chance.

The best deals aren't found on Black Friday anymore. Just buy when there is a deal and you have money. Unless you need appliances, or you are looking to buy a 50" TV for $200 made by some company I don't know then BF is for you otherwise I have yet to buy anything worth of any real value on BF. It's a marketing gimmick day and that's all.

Yeah I don't think I've bought anything from like the last 3 at least.

those perfect blacks lead to much better contrast...and those 2 things are huge in terms of image quality

Joe's AV has the B6 65 inch for $1429. Never purchased from there, however...

Uhhh, that's an absolutely INSANE deal right?

blacks and contrast have no effect on image quality.. They effect viewing experience. DVDs would look equality bad on an OLED and LED TV. The OLED isn't going to make a DVD look magically better.

semantics...of course they have a huge effect...probably the 2 biggest...are you saying that true .000 blacks are purely subjective?...DVD's are not magically going to turn into 4K Blu-rays but depending on the sets upscaling capabilities it might look a bit better

Next year, next year...

//some big expenses that need taking care of have popped up recently.

agree.. also make sure you record what the cost of what you're looking at is at the time you're looking at it especially with newegg. they and a lot of other companies do the shitty price switch scam for sales so that you're in fact paying the original non sale price even though they claim it's on sale.

I am torn between this and a Sony XBR55X930D for $699.... thinking about upgrading from a Sony XBR55X800b

That is more of a side grade really between the 2 Sony TV but to go to the OLED is a huge upgrade. I would either save your money or go for the OLED.

I never seen this from Newegg.

How susceptible to image retention/Burn are these? A couple years back my wife left on the TV all day on CNN while doing house work and have image burn in on my plasma from that (yes pixel orbiting was turned on). Swore i'd never buy a TV again that wasn't wife proof.

I would start by reading the reviews in the OP. One of them states that they never got any image retention that didn't go away. In addition to the pixel orbiting feature, these have a process that runs periodically that takes care of any stubborn IR.

image retention/burn in is definitely still an issue with plasma/OLED...my previous TV before my current LG OLED was a Panasonic VT30 plasma (professionally calibrated)...I watch a lot of ESPN and the ticker at the bottom of the screen was an issue and visible all the time...it was faint and not really noticeable except against a white background but it was definitely there...people that keep saying that image retention/burn haven't been an issue for years with the new technology found in these sets 1) don't know what they're talking about 2) don't view content that is susceptible to it (like ESPN) or 3) don't see it because like I said you need to have a clear or white background to really see it

with my new OLED I'm much more careful with it

Bought my 55eg9100 in Feb-March 2016. It's used about 10 - 12 hours EVERYDAY. It's amazing and it's still amazing. Just in case anyone wondered about their durability (so far).

polonyc2 I have read that plasmas were worse about developing permanent image retention (but I have only been researching these in depth for a day or two). Do you by any chance use yours as a monitor? I believe that Vega and a few others here do. If so, was wondering if you could speak to your experiences with it.

I have this TV. Got it through Massdrop, back in September. Absolutely gorgeous picture with great viewing angles. I paid $1600, so this is a pretty sweet price.

I have a separate dedicated PC monitor and have never used any of my TV's as computer monitors, mainly because of the worry about image retention...I've heard many people say that OLED's are better as far as IR but those same people said the same thing about later generation plasmas and from my experience that was not the case...maybe the technology did get better but it didn't eliminate the problem altogether...I've had my LG OLED since July and it's been perfect so far...no image retention issues etc but I'm being more careful with it so I'm not sure

are you a member over at the AVS forums?...that's a great forum dedicated to Home Theater discussion...here's a thread about OLED + image retention...

Thanks I have done some reading at AVS as well as other places and there is so much back and forth that it's hard for one to come to a definite conclusion. You'll have one person saying that he played a game with static elements for hundreds of hours without any permanent image retention and then another person will claim that it happened to them in much less time. I don't fault you at all for being careful as these are not inexpensive displays but the one consistent thing that I'm seeing across several forums is that with normal use you should never have any issues with burn in.

Another thing to note is that per the Rtings review, the 2017 sets do a better job preventing image retention than the 2016 sets from just one year ago so while I don't know if they'll ever find a way to totally eliminate it due to the fundamentals of the technology, it appears that they are already making strides to improve things.

One thing most people can and do agree on though is the true blacks and stunning image quality so I'm very much looking forward to getting mine and will continue researching so that I can get the most out of this set.

I agree...you can't really go wrong with the 2017 LG OLED as they are pretty much regarded as the best TV you can buy...the 2017 Sony OLED's are also well regarded but cost more...as long as you're somewhat careful you should be fine...I'm very happy with my LG C7 (especially if you have some form of light control...the image quality in a darkened room is stunning)...the HDR is also really impressive, combined with the zero blacks and it can produce a stunning picture...just make sure to look up some calibration settings online...I use the settings listed here (until I get my set calibrated)

* I use most of those settings except for Gamma which I use 2.4

You note that image quality in a darkened room. I'm in a mixed used room with my Panasonic ST60 plasma and was considering upgrading to OLED. Is the brightness going to exceed that of my plasma? I figured if my plasma did okay where I have it, an OLED would be a step up.

plasmas are also better suited for a dark-ish type of room so if your ST60 is fine then the OLED should be just as good (or most likely better)...OLED brightness levels are higher then plasma (but nowhere near LED's)

Thanks. I'm thinking I'm going to wait another generation for OLED.

OLED tech is only getting better so I can only imagine what the 2018 models will look like...honestly the 2017 LG line is more of an incremental upgrade versus 2016...2018 should bring a bigger improvement

* I just read on AVS that the DOP for 'The Last Jedi', is currently using an 55-inch LG B7, to double as his reference monitor

That's what I figure. I really like my ST60 so if I can make it last another year, great.
