Streamers have revealed that Nioh: Complete Edition does not feature any support for mice. While the game does support keyboards, some are calling it “sad” that a 2017 game lacks support for a basic peripheral.

Nioh: Complete Edition is a third-person game and no, controller is not the best control scheme for these games. Take for example Shadow of War. Below you can find a video in which we play the PC version with mouse and keyboard. And as you can see, everything is fluid and smooth. In fact, combat becomes easier as we can more quickly examine the area around us for enemies.

I'm saving my eyeballs for Code Vein when that hits which it's a Dark Souls clone but looks good enough to where it can hold it's own.

Well we can add that to the list of an FOV that doesn't make you vomit, framerates higher than 30, and controls that can be remapped to the list of groundbreaking features that developers are "learning" and will continue to be learning for the next 50 years I guess.

Is it really that hard to add mouse support to a game? No way am I pre-ordering this game, but it's only a couple of days away so I won't have to wait for PC reviews.

It's a controller game anyway. And I say that as a diehard KB/M PCMR citizen, but Souls games and Witcher 3 and games like this just demand to be played with a controller.

This had been a game you could only play on PS4, and Japanese devs are notorious for console focused development with PC as an afterthought. So, much like when Dark Souls 1 made the leap to PC (and the ungrateful bitching that ensued because it was buggy), I still think this title making the jump is worthy of admiration. It could've just as easily remained console exclusive. Let's remember bigger picture here.

Courage.

Game like this normally work best with controller. To be honest i have no problem for games that need contoller specifically.....as long as dev mentions it.

Ungrateful? Yes, how dare people expect a good port. I hate this bullshit attitude that people should be grateful to get ports even when they're shit. People bitching about the port definitely got back to Bandai Namco and I'd bet that, along with good sales of DS1, made sure further games had much much better PC versions. People should make noise when they get a shitty product. A consumer should be able to expect at least a half-way decent product. Bandai Namco actually seems to listen to customers and usually delivers good PC versions of their games these days.

And don'tr sit there and pretend this is anything like Dark Souls 1. From Software deserved a lot of the flack they got for DS1's abysmal port, but it was their first internally developed PC title and on a very tight budget with a strict timeline. Some forgiveness can be given. Koei Tecmo has a history of substandard, or just shitty, ports. Most of the Musou games on Steam are dogshit, half-assed ports of PS3 versions with barely any effort put into them. Most of them run like complete ass. Koei Tecmo does not deserve any leeway, they've had long enough to listen to customers and fix their shit. However, they obviously do not care. So fuck Koei Tecmo. If they're not going to bother putting in any effort they might as well not release games on the PC.

The console market in Japan is dying. PC is becoming a bigger and bigger part of Japanese studios' plans. There is a reason so many Japanese games are coming to the PC, because there is a big market for them. The PC market for a lot of these games has the potential to end up matching consoles, especially for more niche titles. Its much less of an afterthought these days. Everything in the West is becoming crucial for a lot of Japanese studios.

If you go to a restaurant you shouldn't complain that the food is shit and they didn't give you a spoon? Remember the bigger picture, you at least got food, even if it tasted like ass, and you could only eat it with a pitchfork.

Flawed analogy. It's more like if you go to a great sushi restaurant, are given chopsticks, then you complain the restaurant doesn't have forks, and refuse to eat the great sushi on the basis they don't have forks.

This is a japanese Souls type game that's rated very highly on Metacritic and looks pretty damn fun, but designed to be played with a controller. Some people are complaining they can't use their KB/M - and are having fainting spells that it's trash on that basis.

Use the chopsticks.

Completely flawed analogy. It's more like if you go to a great sushi restaurant, are given chopsticks, then you bitch the restaurant doesn't have forks, and refuse to eat the great sushi on the basis they don't have forks.

But some outliers are whining they can't use their KB/M - and are having fainting spells that they can't play the game with KB/M and it's trash on that basis.

Use the fucking chopsticks.

screw the chopsticks this "resturant" is on ("american soil" | pc) there had better be some damned silverware somewhere. and in most sushi places there is silverware you may have to request it but it is available.

this game is has been ported to the pc so it should have mouse support . any decision not to is just a poor decision and they deserve a knock or two for not including it.

dont care how wonderful a game is you dont release a title to something while not including support for its primary device.

I have to agree with some of the above saying use a controller. If a game is designed specifically to play with a input device, like how the souls-borne games are with controllers, I'm all about using the right tool for the right job. If I'm playing a shooter I use a mouse, if I'm playing a racing game it's a wheel, fighting game I use a controller or better yet a fight stick, etc. With that said if you try to get me to use a controller for your fps I'm going to laugh in your face.

I don't give a damn how well recieved and loved it is elsewhere, this is a different market, either you adapt to the market or your product fails, simple as that.

BTW: your analogy (going into a japanese restaruarnt) represents the situation where I purchased the console. Which I'm not doing for this very reason. I don't fucking want to use chopsticks.

A controller being the better way to play is fine, but not having mouse support is still utterly ridiculous and still a sign that Koei Tecmo isn't interesting in putting in the effort required to make it as good of a port as the game deserves. Not having good KB/M options will hurt sales, there is no getting around that. I play a lot of supposedly "controller best" games with a keyboard and mouse. Batman games, Mordor, Witcher 3, various racing games, Dark Souls 3, Assassin's Creed series, and so on. If a game has good KB/M support I like going that route. Not having KB/M support is lazy and half-assed, that's all there is to it. KB/M support has been a standard feature on PC games since the 90s, there is no reason not to include it.

But that's SO HARD!

You're going to use the damn chopsticks.

hopefully (and most likely) some modder like Durante will make a DSFix type of program that fixes the most glaring issues...still doesn't excuse the developer's mistakes (much like NieR Automata not receiving a single post-release patch)...although I have to believe Nioh will get an official patch that adds mouse support sooner rather then later

how would you attack with no mouse?...you need to assign a keyboard button to attack?...sounds like a DOS or MUD game from back in the day

Don't hold your breath for a patch. Koei Tecmo is not known for fixing problems. But maybe. Either way, I fully expect a modder to take up the call and make it better. It seems like a good game, so it should get some attention from people like Durante and Kailden (or however his username is spelled).
