I've got an extra Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus key if interested in trade.

I'd be interested in buying it so you could buy the destiny key if that is something you are interested in doing.

So can you say use someone elses GTX 1080 to activate it on your Battle.net Account, then Play it on your GTX 980 system?

Just to bump and answer questions, yes, the codes (or at least the ones I've used) activated through the Nvidia App. It's trying to see that you have the 1080 there. As long as it sees it you're good to go. You can borrow the card and install it, register the code, then remove it, or if you trust a buddy, have them log into everything of yours and do it there on their machine. All it cares about is that you have a 1080. From there you can link it to BattleNet and it becomes the actual game.

Same thing for other games that require other cards btw. Only need it for that check to see if you have the proper hardware, after that it doesn't matter (I've already sole my 1080 and mine works perfectly still)

Unless they changed their policy/practices, this is not entirely true. I bought two destiny nvidia keys and planned to do exactly this in my wife's system, but I could only activate one code with the particular 1080. I believe it is tied to the serial number of the card as well.

Edit: to be clear, I activated one copy of Destiny on my PC with my GTX 1080, swapped her 980 for my 1080, and couldn't activate the second code because one had already been activated on the card.

Same for me as I tried 2 different codes with the same card on 2 different systems. 1 card per code. It ties to the serial # of the card. So if you buy a used card and thst person used a code on there's you can use a different code on the same card.

so if I don't have a 1080 or 1080Ti...I can buy the code but I need to give my Battle.Net user name and password to whoever I bought the code from so they can first activate it on their machine?...then of course I would change my password...but if a person is selling multiple codes for the same game it won't work?
