A British adventurer has flown over the countryside north of Johannesburg by sitting in a chair attached to 100 helium balloons. Tom Morgan, part of a group called The Adventurists, said “It was a fairly indescribable feeling, wafting across Africa on a cheap camping chair dangling from a load of balloons.” He flew 15 miles in two hours, reaching an altitude of 8,300 feet.

Someone did this in CA a while back and got in serious trouble for doing it.

The only way to visit Johannesburg in recent years.

Go watch some videos about Johannesburg post Apartheid. Place has fallen into ruin.

At least they still dream big. Don't give up.

From our perspective, it's humorous to watch these videos. But I do admire their genuine intrigue to accomplish this.

Cool! If you did that in the States you'd be shot down as a terrorist.
Nah. So long as the empty weight is under 155 pounds, it qualifies as an ultralight; no licensing needed. That said, if you violate controlled airspace in the thing, you’re gonna have a bad day...

The guy in this last video is a hobbyist making a DIY airplane at home so I think that’s pretty cool.

My boss is in Johannesburg as I type. Just got a text and said it is lovely. Have you been there or just repeating what you have heard? Is Cape Town also a cesspool?

Just videos and photographs and documentaries. But I have never been there personally.

Glad it's lovely now. Good for them.

Was a timely post. I had literally just received the text. Honestly hear nothing but great things about South Africa recently (but have not been so no opinion on my behalf and mostly tourism related).
