After pre-orders began, auction site eBay was flooded with iPhone X listings, some supposedly as high as $6,000. Meanwhile, Best Buy is charging $100 extra for the handset, citing “flexibility.” Apple is also asking $279 for iPhone X screen repairs, and $549 for all other issues.

There is quite a demand for both storage configurations of the phone, with the 64GB commanding roughly an average of $1,500, while the 256GB variant is coming in at around $2,500. The prices are pretty widespread, but it’s very clear that the stock is rare, as there are already about 200 listings so far.

Eh... even if I was an Apple Fanboi... I couldn't give less of a fuck about people trying to cash in....
OMG I can't get the phone on the release date, I have to wait another month or two! Damnit what am I supposed to do for 2 more months with my iphone 7!!!!! The Calamity!!!!

And heads across the internet exploded

How does that old saying go.... A fool and his money are soon parted.

If I would have planned ahead, I would have gotten a pre-order for launch day and sold it on eBay and doubled my money (also, I would have bought a shit ton of BTC for sub-$10 a few years back).

Damn it. I should have tried to get in on the first batch and scalp it. This usually happens every year - the phone is out of stock, in a few months, stock levels return. (Except for the iPhone 8 - no one wants that phone. I'm marking that as an Apple blunder. They made it obsolete right after announcing the X. Even if the X hadn't been announced, it is more of a minor upgrade to the 7 anyway - not very exciting.)

How much am I going to pay in fees if I sell my iPhone X on eBay for $1,300 to $1,400 guys?

This is insane lol

Oh I'm more than doubling my money..This was the best flip I've had in a decade.

I had to pay an extra 100 for my 7 at best buy because it was unlocked. I think they always charge extra for an unlocked version. Apple doesn't offer one for months so i've always paid it.

I'm not sure what flexibilty BBY is offering. Sounds like they're offering exactly the same thing that Apple does. I'm actually shocked that they're allowed to raise the price. Apple has pretty tight control on pricing with carriers and I assumed that it did the same with retailers.

It works out to roughly 10% on the total of selling price plus shipping. Insertion fees are minimal in comparison and vary. I am retired and deal with a lot of stuff like the iPhone X, NES Classic, SNES Classic, etc., but rarely sell them on eBay due to the fees. Surely the large eBay stores pay much less than 10% in fees?

To the subject at hand, I have eight iPhone X' on the way.

What happens when the buyer decides to return the phone after some 30 days of use?

Welcome to ebay/paypal hell. You log in to Paypal and get to experience the joy of a huge negative balance for the amount of the item, crippling your Paypal abilities potentially several more weeks until it gets "resolved" to the buyer/scammer's satisfaction. And that's assuming you get the actual item back, rather than some old iPhone or even a rock in a box.

There is a distinction being the asking price and what they are actually selling for on eBay. A quick look shows most of the listings that actually have bids are closer to $1300. Not worth it for the hassle and commissions eBay charges.

And the chance that someone will defraud.

This is exactly what happened to me. Customer bought a 770M and then returned it because “it was missing the SLI port”. I clearly indicated this model was not SLI compatible in the product description and but a Big friggen red box around where the port typically is on SLI enabled models in the product photos. eBay sided with the buyer and refunded his shipping both ways. This in turn caused a negative PayPal balance which shut down my paypal and caused a huge cluster fuck.

Scalping, our nations silent killer. :(

You're confused.

Well I guess that means I should upgrade my AthlonXP even though it still works just fine :(
I think I have one of those in my closet. One of these days I'll fire it up and go through what's on it before sending it out to pasture.

iPhone X recall was announced on sudden notice few days later and hair pulling in frustration world-wide ensues....

this thing isn't even out yet and they already have repairs listed, that can't be good.
