Spoilers Ahead! Wolfenstein: The New Colossus Streamed

This is a Bethesda authorized stream of Wolfenstein: The New Colossus. But of course, I would not suggest watching it if you plan on playing the game any time soon. Streamer CohhCarnage is doing his first playthrough on the hardest difficulty.

Let me get this straight. They're going to show the game off before release and risk hurting sales? Normally stuff like this is a leak that is trying to be kept on the down low but I'm baffled by the publisher letting it get out early. Could be that I'm old and this streaming stuff goes over my head but I still can't figure out why you'd want to watch it instead of play it yourself other then a quick bit as a "demo" since those don't exist these days.

I really don't think it will hurt sales. If someone who is on the fence will pop in, like what they see and go buy it.

Portman has a good point. Wasn't one of the arguments of developers / publishers against "Let's Plays" were because they would hurt sales?

As far as I'm aware, Bethesda has never spoken out against Let's Plays. Most studios either support LPs or remain neutral about them. Very few seem actively against them.
