Spintires

Yep, Oovee games screwed over the dev, so he went to focus interactive (there is a discount for previous owners though).

If you are only paying $15 for it if you already have Spintires, it sorta seems like an expansion pack. Considering they had to change development company and publishers it isn't that bad.

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, I remember the screwing. I will gladly pay the dev. Nice of him to offer a discount.

I've got it pre-ordered since they're offering a "discount" to previous owners. Guess I shouldn't be so harsh on that since they do list some of the upgrades to the old game but it seems like a minimal upgrade but I'll wait to pass judgement until it's out.

I've got it ordered and trying to get the group I pulled into the original from a LAN demo to buy it but I might be driving solo for a bit. Had fun in single-player with the original but it shines with other drivers. If anyone needs another driver or wants to run together once it's out let me know.

I thought the game was worth it the first time. I might be a glutton for punishment, and there'd be nobody to blame but myself, I'm gonna go ahead and pre-order it as well.

I believe there's workshop items with treads (fairly certain the bridge layer has them).

Revisited the game after a while, plopped down on the couch with the steam-link. Holy hell, I forgot how nice this game could be, but I also forgot how incredibly frustrating the camera was. Has anyone played the Technical Test or could comment on the camera thing? Also, forgetting the controls after a while, I thought hey, I'll just check the "settings" page. Nooopee. No indication how to use the winch on a controller. Grr. I want to give this guy a chance, but its such a love hate relationship for me with this damn game. I swear, I'm exhibiting signs of requiring therapy...

Pretty sure it's a no-go, the best you can do is bind a button to the winch command, but you still need the mouse to select the points.

With KB / mouse the camera is funky, but very usable if you learn a few things, like mouse wheel zooms your view in & if your view gets blocked by trees or rocks, just hotkey switch between the standard iso-third person & first person + use a little zoom out & rotate the angle & you can look around pretty quick & easy.

Oh without a doubt. When sitting at my computer desk with controller in hand, KB/mouse readily accessible, everything is more or less, doable. I was trying to get some mileage out of my steamlink and veg on the couch. Having only the controller was an exercise in frustration. Pairing with one of these was more doable, but not as fluid as I would prefer. With the steam workshop, this is going to be one heck of a timesink with me, but I'd like to have a more casual experience in some cases.

2+ hours - spinnin' tires to some Black Sabbath, Dio & Iron Maiden... good times!

Anyone playing Mudrunner? I like it a lot. It's definitely an incremental upgrade coming from Spintires, but it's got a lot of nice little improvement scattered throughout. I recommend it if you're a fan, if nothing else because it's still the best in the business.

Geez, I forgot all about it (be nice if Steam gave you a heads up when a pre-order game is ready for it).

I will be downloading this tonight!!!!!!

Welp...
I think the game is much improved. I can winch with just an xbox controller. I'm sure a M/K will be needed in some cases, but this looks like a Steam Link couch game for me. Now to see what headsets work through the steam link and I'll be set.

Actually so far I have not needed KB/M once. Remember this is being released on Xbox and PS4 as well so it HAS to work with only the controller.

No, I DIDNT remember that this was going on console, until you mentioned it. :D

Yes, I can see the improvements in the UI and especially controller support. Its a little wonky, but a DAMN sight better than ST-1. Ran into a bug trying to do a friend mulitplayer, but after verifying the game files and restarting the game, seems to have fixed it. The true test of the Controller Friendly (in my book) is "Will the Crane be more intuitive?"

The game definitely changed. I'm noticing:
1) Fuel consumption seems to be more efficient trucks. I'm not running low on gas.
2) I'm not getting stuck as much.
3) I'm not taking as much damage on the terrain.
4) The maps are larger, but I can travel at a greater rate of speed (so it seems to balance out?)

I'm playing casual mode, but this seems to be a "more forgiving" casual mode. Frankly I got frustrated on some of the original maps where I kept getting stuck and tipping over the truck. I'm not sure I like the "get progression points" thing, but ehhh, I'll deal with it.

I'm loving it. I think the changes are great so far.

Well, I'm not looking for a hardcore sim. Even the previous game was hardly that. It was an interesting physics demo with trucks and mud.

The core loop of gameplay still exists. I was playing "Out of the Box" which meant that I had to complete a map before starting a new one, earning progression points. I have no idea if it gets harder. I'm not a game reviewer, I'm simply describing it as I played for 2 hours. I would describe the Coast map as the level of difficulty as I experienced in the "Bog" map on the new game. I got a level of difficulty with the old game, progressing to the Plains map where I kept getting stuck in the mud, turning that into a saturday night rage-quit session.

Did they dumb it down, thats pretty subjective, I simply don't know. I would encourage people to feel the game out for themselves before throwing out the "Duke Amiel Du H'ardcore" types of reply.. I found the first game relaxing, enjoyable, and when I wanted to, made it more challenging.

For example, I played casual in the ST-1. I recalled to the garage more times than you can shake a stick at. The new game, it appears that only certain vehicles are "recallable". I haven't experienced the full game, nor can I offer a full review of it. What I can say is this: I'm having JUST as much fun in this game as I did in the previous game. I don't feel bad paying for it again. I hope that Focus treats this guy right, but I have my reservations (I've bought several Focus games because of IP that I'm a fan of, that has not been updated or patched in what I feel is a timely fashion).

Is it dumbed down, I don't know, but what I do know is that the old game is dead, I'll not see it progress. I am enjoying the new game and looking forward to its future.

Played a map last night with 1 friend. No issues getting connected or during gameplay. Map was called The Bog if I my memory is correct and neither one of us recalled seeing it before. Thinking they had mentioned a new map so perhaps that was it?

Had it on hardcore mode and was a fun challenge. Took us about 3 hours to deliver 2 loads of logs and explore the map. Seems like you have to select the logs from a dispensing station now and then load them instead of getting them from a pile. I never did the crane work previously though so I could be mixing that up for something new when it was in Spintires.

The game phrases it like the multiplayer progress can be saved and I saw that mentioned on Reddit AMA for the game too so we'll test and report back. The game has different trucks for each person (location and type) which helped us approach issues from different angles.

Seems like you unlock the maps and (starting?) trucks with progression points you earn for completing the maps and challenges. Haven't tried the various options yet so can't comment on the specifics.

They've always had the two methods of loading logs, though not all places have both.

Hey, if you like the original then you will know you like the newer version.

There are plenty of people still playing MP too - logging & wheelin'.

I never really played the game as it was intended (logging), but I love wheelin' & rock crawling user maps w/ jeeps, samurai's, trucks, etc.

Yeah, I like the new game, its improved Spintires. There are the camera issues, but after playing a few more maps, the gameplay is just as good, and very improved from the first iteration. If you like your $4.85 purchase, then the newer game is just as good and improved. Playing longer, the controller support is TREMENDOUSLY improved. I like it, I wish the game well.

New update 7/12/17
centered camera/look out cockpit
It's been just over a month since Spintires: MudRunner launched, and we're happy to announce that the second Spintires: MudRunner update is now out!

Here are the main additions and fixes.

CAMERA
Centered Camera

  • Added a new camera centered on vehicles, that is now used by default by all players.
  • Players can choose the legacy camera by disabling "Center camera on the truck" in the settings
  • The new centered camera can be zoomed in/out to increase visibility.
  • While using Quick Winch, the legacy camera will be used, if players are using a controller.
Cockpit Camera
  • New feature: Look out of the left window while reversing.
  • Cockpit camera can no longer be activated underwater.
  • Cockpit camera can now zoom in.
  • Cockpit camera is now activated with the right mouse-button.
  • Added a keybind to activate cockpit camera.

MODS
  • In multiplayer, if the host had multiple mods installed, and then created a lobby and selected only modded trucks, the client was unable to join and the game would crash. This has now been fixed.
  • "Reload" in The Proving Grounds will now reload the addons attachment position.
  • Long mod names will now be shortened.

SAVING & LOADING
  • Plants (trees) are now properly saved to and loaded from save files.
  • When moving the camera, the map is now loaded more efficiently.
  • The game now autosaves every 5 minutes

TUTORIAL & CHALLENGES
  • The front/rear camera hint is now presented at the beginning of the tutorial, and in THE RIG challenge, and will no longer appear in REPAIR & REFUEL.
  • THE RIG cockpit bonus objective will now correctly mark itself "finished" as soon as the player reaches the unloading area.
  • The tutorial will now demonstrate both the legacy and centered camera versions.

OTHERS
  • Removed the requirement to align a trailer to the truck when loading logs onto a trailer.
  • Multiplayer chat will no longer overlap with keyboard/gamepad hints at the bottom of the screen.
  • The mouse will now work properly after activating the Steam Overlay with a gamepad or steering wheel.
  • When clicking on "load up" points to pack a load, advanced mode will no longer be exited.
  • Various other tweaks and fixes.

In upcoming patches, we plan to include Workshop support for maps, working mirrors in cockpit view, and additional wheel support.

Finally picked up Mudrunner. With the coupon given to people who owned the original, and it's sale this weekend, it was $5

Have you played it? I bought it for like $7.33 but have not played anything on my race rig for months...
