Apparently Kaspersky is really feeling the heat because of suspicion that its antivirus software has been hacked or penetrated by the Russian government and used as a route for scooping up US intelligence. They have posted a four point plan to try to win back customer trust, saying they will be submitting its soucrce code for independent review, starting in Q1 2018. They didn't specify who will conducting the review but says it will be "undertaken with an internationally recognized authority". I don't know about you guys but I'm not going to be burned twice by Kaspersky.

You can check out previous discussion here, here, and here.

Kaspersky’s moves follow a ban announced by the US Department of Homeland Security on its software last month, citing concerns about ties between "certain Kaspersky officials and Russian intelligence and other government agencies, and requirements under Russian law that allow Russian intelligence agencies to request or compel assistance from Kaspersky and to intercept communications transiting Russian networks".

This is a minefield how ever you want to view it.

I would say that a claim that: this software is not able to be abused by any government agencies
Is something I'm afraid no one in this day and age can claim .....

" I don't know about you guys but I'm not going to be burned twice by Kaspersky."

I mean, if you believe them, you were never burned in the first place.

The Russian government / FSB is an internationally recognized authority....

so what about the govt < NSA < or kgb or windows 10 for spying on us all or anything electronic incl your car ..........?

What authority will guarantee that code reviewed is the same as code built?

Political horseshit generated by the Israelies, again.

I heard Dubya was furious when they deployed part of stuxnet...

compile and hash?

funny that one talking about does not wanting to be burned by Kaspersky twice, but still tolerate and use Microsoft after the last built-in backdoor scandal(s).

I can choose my antivirus, but unfortunately too many good games only run on Windows so I'm kinda stuck. In this case I am accepting known risk.

Antivirus is for noobs.

Only AV you need is common sense.

Forget the possibility of Russian spies corrupting Kaspersky's products, I wouldn't use Kasperky's products if Richard Stallman himself stated there was no malware or spying going on in the program. Kaspersky's programs are just bad.

strange how i didnt get credit again for THIS................................ Today at 8:31 AM
Dunno, maybe if you sent your suggestion into the news mailbox or PMed the person doing news you might get credit. That said, I will make sure to put you on my list of people that I make sure to read every post your make every moment of the day.

To me the whole thing looks more like the NSA wants to kill off one of the Antivirus companies they can't force to do anything by "securtiy letters" and which will detect NSA-written malware because of that.

well you dont really have a lot of options outside of microsoft... also russian backdoors into NSA is a lot more scary than some stupid Microsoft fumble.

That sounds reasonable, you better watch your back. ;)

Uhhh, this is anti-virus FOR the NSA... so like, why would they need a backdoor into their own systems? Theyre not banning Kaspersky in the USA, you're free to install it if you want. Unless you think theyre just trying to damage their reputation so much that they no longer serve the USA for home pc's... but people would find out pretty damn quick of symantec or ESET acted as a backdoor anyway.

Heh... This is nonsense distraction from Kasp... Code can be compiled and updated through any release or update. It can also be tailored to specific clients. A code review means nothing. LMAO

Too bad Congress can't get hip to the way technology actually works.

I like how people seem to think that this is the only program that could be used to infect computers. The U.S. Government has had every single PC in its possession infiltrated already using software it deems "safe" simply because it was developed here.

I was using Kaspersky Free for about two months. Back to Windows Defender. I actually liked Kaspersky a lot, but better safe than sorry.

Yes, I know, before you tinfoil hat wearers start foaming at the mouth, Google. MS, the IRS, and my aunt, will always be able to get telemetry from me.

But I think Using Kaspersky Free might be an unnecessary risk.

Avira Free?
