Hosting Feedback - Where can I get hosting...

http://www.godaddy.com/ is very good too (although I myself do not use godaddy).

Also are there any free or costing or both website hostings that will allow, permission etc. for a person to have whatever he or she or they want on the website?

I previously recommended Liquidweb in this thread for VPS hosting and while their managed service is awesome they are slowly pricing themselves out of being a good choice for VPS hosting.

My new darling is Digital Ocean at http://digitalocean.com which provides unmanaged VPS hosting on SSD storage for as low as $5/mo for a 512 MB memory node. I have now used their services for a couple of months and I love it. I will be canceling my Liquidweb account which I had for going on 8 years at the end of this month as I complete the transition of all of my servers to Digital Ocean.

Do you use Wordpress at all? My current host (Host Gator) is extremely slow with Wordpress, and I'm looking to move away from them ASAP. Just want something that's fast and very reliable and scalable.

Are you sure its the host that's the problem? What plug ins are you using? There are a lot of plug ins that can cause slowdowns, For example most "SEO" plug ins are shit, they try and do everything and do it badly. Same with wordpress security plug ins. P3 Profiler is a pretty decent plug in profiler that can tell you a lot of info about your sites load rimes.

How much traffic? is wp-cron disabled or enabled? If you get a decent amount of traffic and wp-cron is enabled it can cause slowdowns, especially if you have a lot of plug in that also hook into wp-cron.php, disabling it and using a real cron job if needed that you can specify when it runs instead of wp-cron executing every time a page is loaded can greatly reduce load time.

what about comment spam? that can fill a database and also cause longer load times due to having to query a dbase full of spam.

There are a ton of things people can and should do with their wordpress sites before screaming that their host is the problem.

I'll look into those. But, Host Gator is pretty notorious for being slow with Wordpress (didn't see that until I moved over to them). I didn't have a similar problem at my previous host, but I had a lot of downtime.

I'll definitely check out those things, though. It'd be nice to get my site optimized for any host, anyway.

So I've been seeing a few hosts that offer WordPress optimized hosting, and appear to be charging a nice premium for it. Anyone have experience with this? Is it a gimmick? I don't see why you couldn't get standard hosting and just install WordPress yourself.

In the past, I have used Crucial Paradigm for shared hosting and CrownCloud.net and DigitalOcean for VPSes. Crucial Paradigm is good but with VPSes being so cheap these days, they are hard to recommend. CrownCloud.net has good support that have gone above and beyond what an unmanaged VPS service should to help me with site problems. Earlier this year, I moved to DigitalOcean as a result of pricing (it is slightly cheaper) and have been happy with them so far. They were fairly quick to answer questions, but overall I have not had to contact support much (note that I am more familiar with VPS management now so I do have fewer questions than in the past...).

Anyways, depending on your needs and where you want your server located, I would recommend CrownCloud or DigitalOcean easily. If you absolutely need CPanel, Crucial Paradigm is a good option though you have less control over your (virtual) box.

EDIT: As for wordpress caching plugins, I highly recommend Hyper Cache: https://verrytechnical.com/?s=hypercache. It is easy to configure and is quite speedy. The latest update has rolled in some of the features of Lite Cache as well but I haven't had a chance to look into that yet.

*PS I was with Crucial Paradigm for two years+, CrownCloud for a year, and have been with DigitalOcean for a few months now.

I only have a WordPress blog dedicated to a long-time hobby of mine and I quite like the hosting options by http://www.1and1.com/hosting, never had any problems with their wordpress hosting services. I've also heard a lot of good reviews about DigitalOcean lately, but I've not tried them yet.

Been using hostwinds for a year so far and recommend them as a host with high speeds and nice team who knows their job well.

No news posts in over a year..

Any new recommendations for hosting?

Need a host initially for web development and beta testing a page before promoted..

mddhosting.com is a very solid option not owned by one of the big guys that suck.

I stand by my previous post. Digitalocean for VPS and kimsufi for cheap dedicated server. Both are very good imo and have been stable for me.

I’m still having good experience with UK2 group and their brands like midphase.com and vps.net

Hosting Hard-dc.com there and my other DC related sites. The only point I wish they would improve is python 3.x on their shared hostings

For Wordpress Siteground is really good. I used a client's account and very easy to deal with and excellent at problem solving.
