Forza Motorsport 7 Video Card Performance Update

Forza Motorsport 7 gaming performance has changed, video cards stack up differently when compared. We take Forza Motorsport 7 and apply new NVIDIA GeForce 387.92 and AMD Crimson ReLive 17.10.1 drivers to find out how these compare, what performance differences there are, and if AMD Radeon RX Vega is still king in this game.

I was actually thinking more rods for Nvidia's bottom.

Just that AMD lacks rods to spare.

edit: Conclusion is very appropriate and I wholly agree.

I would say that the reviews gave them a kick in the butt, but I don't know if I can agree that if it weren't for the results that we would have never seen an improvement. We definitely saw it sooner rather than later because of AMD, though.

Vega 56 vs 64 frametime differences are interesting...

It's pretty typical for games to have bugs patched or fps increased shortly after release. There was just a lot of noise for this one for some reason.

Good to see that competition is pushing things forward. :) Love to see that AMD are releasing day one drivers that perform very well, something that used to not be the case.

The noise was mostly because, over the years, users were trumpeting how great Nvidia drivers were and how much AMD ones sucked. We have come a long way from those days.

I havent been one to always update drivers but do these driver changes munipulate the quality of the games to get the better FPS?
Interesting read and thanks for the tests and Graphs!
Here In canada the RX Vegas are $600-$900 and the 1080Ti's are $1000 and slowly getting to the mid $950ish
And was interested in saving a few bucks and getting a vega to game is still sufficient.

I was expecting this since the initial results were posted. Actually the response was faster than I tought. Too bad AMD doesn't react as quick.

I'm somewhat surprised the GTX 1070 matched Vega56, I thought it would close the gap but still loose.

In Canada the selling price for the 1080 is the same price as the Vega 56. The 1070 is $100 cheaper then the Vega 56.

I thought one of the points or problems with DX12 was that the driver did less work. How did they manage a 25% claimed uptick and actually make the game faster?

Fixes of CPU overhead and bottlenecks mostly..

Nice review, current data is always something to strife for...looks like Pascal now har more gasoline than Vega (pun intended)

Some how, I don't think this is the only game that NVIDIA will optimize, I have a feeling that where Vega breaks the "pattern"...NVIDIA will focus on bringing things back to the "norm".

With the pricing on Nvidia cards coming back down to earth in real world cost as of this writing, I would argue that aside from aesthetics, Nvidia currently has the best price performance in every spectrum.

Wonder if I can get a list of my favorite games to AMD?

Always nice to see everyone across the board get improvements. Well except ppl on Intel or other graphics.

The 8GB RX 580 is only $20 more then the 6GB GTX 1060. I'd call that a draw.

Thanks for the followup on the new drivers for Forza 7 Kyle.

Thanks for checking this out Kyle, nice write-up. Latest drivers def smoothed out gameplay a bit for me. My 1080Ti seems less CPU bound. I still get random hitches that I'm not able to consistently replicate, and of course the customization menu memory leak is just plain dumb, but I'm enjoying the game nonetheless. *two thumbs up*

1080 gtx ti and a thrustmaster t150 for forza. Can concur with OP that this setup owns in 4k. :D

Thanks for the hard work for these test results. Totally not surprising though.

What a difference offline pre-compiled shaders make. (Why else is every driver release getting larger in size?)

shaders are only partially compiled and nothing to do with driver size or performance really (unless you are talking about shader replacement), load times are much faster though. The partially (pre compiled) shaders are fully compiled at run time. This is why if you dl, lets say Unreal Engine or Cry engine and then dl their updates, and use old levels made on previous versions, the shaders must be re compiled in full, and it takes quite a bit of time.

Yeah, I don't see AMD having as much of an effect here; it was clear from the get-go that there was a performance problem with Nvidia cards due to how the game developer modified the engine they're licensing for reduced input lag. Given how often Nvidia makes updates, we're talking what a day or two, a week max, earlier than expected?

Not that we'd every know for sure :D

I know ESO takes forever to compile the shaders first run after any patches. Even on a good system.

1 thing i think people need to realize.....AMD had game day drivers ready when Nvidia did not. A lot of people have been unhappy with Nvidia's drivers lately (even all the damn hot fixes). Maybe AMD got their head out of their butts and are keeping up on the driver department.

It's a single game....an anomaly, not a trend...

Yeah let's not forget, XOX is using AMD hardware... Admittedly, I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to driver optimization/coding/hardware optimization, but it's not really a secret the primary platform for F7 is XOX as a featured launch title. I'm not surprised AMD was optimized on day 1.

Not gonna lie, when I clicked the drop-down page selection and saw page 2 Driver Performance, I was dumbfounded for a few moments how in the hell a car driver figures into a video game. Perhaps I'm not awake yet ...

To the sky with FPS is not the real winner , but who can give you the best flat line between min to max fps as that is the area that needs the most work because going from 99.7 to 36.8 fps is BS as it's like looking at the 12v rail of a power supply of how smooth the power is,, so I really don't care who can hit the high note but more tighter fps above min 60fps to have the best playing game known to man kind. .

Honestly, I am not really interested in this game. However, I am interested in Forza Horizon 3 for the Hot Wheels expansion. :) I am usually pretty bad at racing games but that one does look fun and I always played with toy cars when I was a kid.
