Router help

i 2nd the Ubiquiti products. Rock solid performance and decent management options.

What will the ubiq thingy do? Will that increase speeds and range? It still needs my Router?

Looking to get a new router. What do you guys suggest? I currently own the Asus rt n16. Looking at this Asus https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K3EPYP4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2U16THU5EFRX6&psc=1 looking for something that might have better range and speed then what I currently have?
I've just upgraded a new modem and wifi router which runs firmware designed to reduce bufferbloat, which has helped in multiplayer games. My bufferbloat on Xfinity and a Nighthawk modem/router combo was rated as 'C' according to the dslreports test, but with the new modem and router, it's now an 'A'.

IQ Router:

Motorola MB8600 modem (new model, lots of info at dslreports). This is a great modem, really happy to have gotten it.

My ISP is Xfinity 150mbps down 10mbps up.

Your range and speeds will most likely increase if comparing to your current router. The real beauty of Ubiquiti hardware is the management capabilities, stability and performance IMO.

Honestly I don't want more management options. I just want to set a password and that's it lol I don't have time to fool with things anymore...I just want something stable throughout the house witch is about 1100sq ft. The modem and pc are in the back of the house. I never had huge issues with range but would like the signal to be better and faster download speeds. Is Ubiquiti easy to setup and why do I need to keep my current router?

If that's the case, I would suggest stop messing with wireless issues and get Powerline Ethernet.

No. I still need wireless! Just need to know if a different router will increase my speeds and range if not then I'd just stick with the same router.
How'd does the ubiq work?

Dude you are hopeless. Figure it out on your own. You obviously don't listen and lack common knowledge on the subject

Vengance chill. I plan on taking your advice. I work offshore so I don't have time to test with line straight to pc. The issue is very random so it could take hours even with line straight to pc...Money is not a huge issue plus I have amazon prime.. This weekend I will have alittle time to test it. Would anything be in the system log of the router on why it is restarting?

Anyways if it ends up being a router issue I would like to upgrade to a better router in terms of speed, range etc appreciate the help

I don't know why you are so hung up on a router...

The issue is wireless coverage - fix the issue by getting a really good access point and connect to your current router, or use Powerline Ethernet and put your wireless issues behind you.

Will how does an access point work and connect to my current router?
How does power line ethernet work?

The Unifi access point can connect to any switch port that is on your LAN subnet. This will likely be one of the 4 LAN ports on the back of your current router. There will be an injector with the access point, and one ethernet line will come from it labeled POE, and provide power to the access point, the other side will be labeled LAN, and will plug into your router. You can stand up a controller on any Windows or Linux machine you have. If you are more adventurous, you can set one up for free on Amazon Web Services.

If you are looking to make this successful, at least do a little bit of homework on your own:

Seriously - 5 minutes on Google could have saved you a ton of time and questions. Just do a little bit of lifting on your own.

Both things you mentioned require running ethernet wires thru house something I don't want to do. I've figured out my current Router is messed up. I need a new one what do you guys suggest my Internet is rated @Up to 150 Mbps. Asus Rtn16 was my Router and currently I'm looking into the Asus rt ac 68w.

Powerline doesn't require running any wires in the house. You simply plug a cat5 from your router to the powerline and then on the other end plug the cat5 from the powerline to your device/computer/etc. The powerlines just plug into the wall outlets.

If you want to improve wireless range, you can add a second access point by plugging it into the powerline instead of your device/computer/etc. You can even plug in a switch and plug in as much stuff as you want.

If you don't want to use powerline, you can use moca adapters which work in the same manner except over coaxial cable (which is probably already in your walls), and if that doesn't fit your bill, there's ethernet extenders that run over phone wire which is definitely in your walls somewhere.

The last resort is a wireless repeater setup which would probably improve the signal strength and consistancy, but maybe not the overall bandwidth. Or you could trash your existing asus and go for one of those fancy expensive mesh systems.

The ubiquiti ap is a rock star that comes highly recommended everywhere. It's not a toy to set up, but because it's enterprise gear, you can set it and forget it and it will work day-in day-out.
