As was rumored about, Intel stocking levels on its 8600K and 8700K CPUs looks to be more than lacking. A customer service rep at Newegg is telling one of our readers that it will be 3 to 5 weeks before stock is to be in the door again.

Check out the screenshot.

Checking Newegg for both 8600K and 8700K CPUs, those show to be out of stock. It seems that Intel has very much put its launch before availability in order to "have and answer to Ryzen." Of course if that answer is a paper-launch, so be it, but it surely shows just how rattled Intel is by AMD at this moment.

This has saved me a bunch of money whew. I'll wait for the z390 launch in hopes of even better OC support.

This just shows how troubled Intel is as a company. They can't provide any real performance in IPC, and they can't meet stock. They are doomed, and will certainly be in the dustbin of corporate history in a couple of years. /s

For the more dense, this is a sarcastic twist on all the doomsayers of AMD/RTG because of the poor stock availability of Vega.

I think this paper launch is more to do with Ryzen being stronger than Intel had anticipated.
Intel probably scrapped their original plan to release yet another SandyBridge refresh, and, instead, had to build a new 6 core, which completely screwed up their supply chain.

I think the only unfortunate thing for AMD right now, is that the Ryzen board selection isn't so great and won't be for another few months or so.

Welp, that's all the excuse I need to wait just a leetle beet longer to smell what Ryzen 2 is cooking.

Ah, who am I kidding. I'll probably just run my 2500k for another 3-4 years before upgrading to a 2700k.

That and the lack of an APU. I'd really like a Ryzen 3 equivalent APU for my next office computer. Budget has kept me from building, but the i3 8100 is a strong value once office class motherboards are available. Thankfully I can wait a bit longer. Replacing my home/gaming rig would cost far too much money for budget to allow right now!

I'll be curious to see if Microcenter has their typical in-store only $50-100 off sale before Spring.

Newegg needs to confirm getting rid of all these extra "sellers" and stop trying to be Amazon.

Went to Newegg a couple days ago for the first time in forever...apparently they sell car parts and clothes now. The fuck is going on and who asked for them to do this?

It's like they're the M$ of the internet...just doing what no one asked for all for no good reason and refuses to change once people actually voice their opinions.

That is why I have been looking at alternate vendors. There are other stores that have good selection and prices and policies, and Newegg is no longer the only "good" option in the USA.

Responding to a challenger with vapourware!?

What the hell does Intel think they are? A tech company?

Paper launches are such bullshit. I hope this hurts Intel bad.

At the least this is disappointing. While I know a highly clocked 2600k (mine is at 4.5G) will almost keep up with a similarly clocked 6700k/7700k/~8700k I've been looking to do a full system upgrade with an 8700k mostly for the extra cores. And the fact that my 2600k build is kinda old. ;)

So much hype for a paper launch. I get giggles. It seems Nvidia is the only consistent player that it always one or two steps ahead before the competition.

I'm glad my reasoning (whatever it was) made me build a 7700k system or I'd be going nuts right now. lol

I was able to purchase it on back order before it went out of stock. Says 15-20 days so three to 5 weeks sounds about right

Of which year? Considering they're $130+ over most other vendors right now.

My store (Denver) has whatever Intel's latest and greatest is at a permanent $50-100 discount vs. Amazon. In-store only and 1 per person. They have typically offered this within the first few months of release.
If they don't discount the chips, they'll throw in a decent mobo for something like $50 rather than the $100-120 retail. It's their way of competing with the online stores per the staff. No clue if they plan to do this with Coffee Lake, but they ran it for the 4, 5, and 6 series chips. I never even glanced at the 7's so I dunno about those. Their site is showing $499 for the 8700 and none in stock, so obviously that's not going on yet.

Yeah not a bad time to snipe previous gen CPU combos, if you see any CFL early adopters trying to get money quick.
Other than that, it's a good time to be patient.

viscountalpha If we're waiting into 2018, than the Ryzen refresh is right on the horizon lmao.

I'm really surprised by this. It makes sense given that much of intel's roadmap was moved up due to Amd's competitive push in the last 3q's, and that a lot of Sandy Bridge owners are finally swapping out for a new overclocking kit. This next year is going to be really exciting for CPUs and the used market is going to be more seductive than ever for building cheap media boxes with awesome combos. It'll certainly be the first time in a build I pay more for the hard drive than the cpu + mobo combined, even with really low prices on 8TB drives XD

I really, really wish AMD had managed to get higher clocks and IPC. I'm happy with the Ryzen 1700x in my plex server, because it makes great use of the multiple cores. I need better single thread performance, because I have work to do and so many things are, and forever will be, single threaded. I made a mistake getting an 8350 for my main rig years back, I don't need lots of cores. If silicon lottery had a 1600x at 5.2ghz or better I'd consider it, but ryzen's clocks are so limited.

Will this series of Intel CPU need to be de-lidded after purchase or did Intel address that decision?
"Need to" is a subjective statement. To work out of the box as intended, no, just like no previous generation of Intel processors "needed to." However, they still include the poor quality TIM between the CPU and the IHS, so di-lidding and replacing with a higher quality TIM will result in lower temperatures, and possible better overclocking if you buy a "K" chip.

Yeah, hell, wouldn't surprise me if this is the CPU performance they were planning for 5 years from now, given their past improvements without competition from AMD.

Maybe they'll stock Covfefe Lake CPU's? Ok, on a more serious note, yeah, I agree with MrDeaf and tetris42, most likely AMD foiled their incremental improvements process with Ryzen.

This situation is getting boring, AMD have done it and now Intel are doing it. Its all well and good releasing details of a new product to the media, but it isn't a product launch until people can actually buy one !!!:mad: RANT OVER

I suspect that heat and power will be your limiting factor, there, not the board... Those things run crazy hot, and have a ridiculous power draw.

Not only that, but we can be sure they'll all keep releasing stuff before they are mature enough to use reliably.

I think this is overblown. I went from an FX-8320 to an i7 4930k and even then I saw very little real world difference. Kerbal Space Program did run a bit better... The performance difference between Ryzen and Covfefe Lake is smaller than that.

Sometimes you can only push so hard. *shrug* that's just my prediction. It's likely Christmas time is my current bet.

MICROCENTER just put up 8700k at $499 ..so the short cpu is now being sold like a video card ..somewhere in the disty line a vendor is sitting on a extra $100 plus .

Intel needs to quit being so tight and solder their damn CPUs. AMD does it with good results.

oof. So... really a Thanksgiving/Christmas launch?

I'm thinking more along the lines of 1H'18 which is when they normally launch the mainstream parts. And coincidentally they also have a true next-gen chipset coming out, not the rebadged Z270 at the same time. No matter how many times the Intel zealots claim AMD has no bearing on what Intel does, it sure seems like it did this time. Tease for a August 21 release...actually release on October 5...steady supply? Who knows.

I was surprised how how the 8700K gets when you OC. even with water I would avoid it in my rig and stick to my 6850K at 4.1
