Should you need a more complete list of YouTube MP3 ripping sites, Torrent Freak has a really good list compiled in this article about the RIAA going after those sites. Thank you RIAA and cageymaru.

The RIAA has just submitted its latest list of "notorious" piracy websites to the U.S. Government. The report has a strong focus on YouTube MP3 rippers and also includes many of the other usual suspects, including The Pirate Bay and Rapidgator.

oh, I thought you download and run a program that strips the audio. Silly me, not using these web sites!

It's scary to think about what kind of people would go through the effort of ripping low-bitrate music from youtube, but are apparently not smart enough to simply download the entire album in FLAC from a torrent website instead?

it converts on the fly to mp3 and m4a which is a bit better than mp3.

I'd be surprised if what you get on Youtube can even match 128kbps MP3. Even if the website allowed you to convert into lossless, it still wouldn't be any better than the source.

Depends on the stream, but they can be as high as 192kbs (which sucks, for the most part), but there is a lot of music on YouTube that is not on albums, like live stuff, non albun versions of songs, etc.

lol

that's what youtube-dl is for (https://youtube-dl.org/)

it's command-line based, works on linux, OSX, and Windows
It's also updated on a regular basis

Also supports other sites, not just YT.
I use it for soundcloud then xfer to my phone, etc.

Exactly. There are trances mixes that come out on YT and the authors webhosting is shutdown...

ytget() { youtube-dl --extract-audio --audio-quality 3 --add-metadata --audio-format mp3 --embed-thumbnail $1; }

nice little bash fn to download with reasonable quality the youtube and embed data :)

A lot of the music I listen to are only available on youtube.. And niconico, but that requires an account and isn't any better quality. The pit called vocaloid... More specifically vocaloid trance.
