I love my Pixel XL phone, as long as Google is not bricking it without any notice at all. That said, I am not that guy that buys every new phone that comes out, but Forbes has a article up that covers a whole lot of information that is new to me about its next flagship unit. Still not a fan of no headphone jack however. Boo! While all of this looks really good, I do not see a whole lot of reason to spend money on a new one.

IP67 Certification - Adding this water and dust resistance rating brings the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL into line with Apple and Samsung rivals and addresses a big omission from the original Pixels.

This will probably be what I replace my 6P with, though the omission of the headphone jack is pretty annoying. I can do without it though, as I only occasionally use it in cars where I can't use BT. I just hope Google offers these through all carriers this year instead of only Verizon and that they can figure out their supply issues that has plagued every Google phone so far (with the Pixels being the worst - phones were OOS for over 6 months after launch.. ridiculous).

Meh, I'm over the Pixel 2 already. Let's move onto the Pixel 3 rumors and speculations. There's no way in hell I'm shelling out ~$1000 for a Pixel XL 2 with 128GB. Same goes for the iPhoneX. I use to purchase flagship phones every year, but now I've moved onto mid/high end phones that do everything the same for 1/3 the price.

Apple is taking note. They are already doing their research for their Iphone 12 and need to find the latest and most innovative features to copy 2 years from now.

Looks good overall, but just a few things that disappoint me:

1) Removal of the headphone jack. Argue all you want that "you don't need this". I still find plenty of situations with my iPhone 7 Plus were I'm SOL because I forgot my adapter or my BT headphone's charge died. Especially while I'm traveling.
2) No dual camera. Pretty much every single flagship has a dual camera setup now. I'm sure the camera will take great pictures, but if I'm paying flagship prices I want a second lens - especially a super wide angle if they could swing it.
3) No expandable memory. Again, for a flagship I should have this option. I don't want to pay the rumored $950+ to have a phone with only 128GB of storage...

Some nice improvements, with a couple of (IMO) issues, but maybe a worthwhile competitor for iPhone X and Galaxy S8+ . I'm interested to see how it stacks up in every way including features/hardware, because playing catch up for a late-year release isn't good - they should be leading the pack! I hope they don't make the foolish mistake that they did last time selling them only through Verizon or through the Google Store WITHOUT any "leasing upgrade" program. I hate to give Apple credit, but especially in this day and age when all these manufacturers outmode their mobiles so quickly (2 years of real updates on the best of them), and prices keep going up, Apple at least offered a direct 0% interest payment plan that does not require you to actually pay the whole thing off. Instead, you turn in your 2017 model for a 2018 model and just keep going. Ultimately you get the newest phone every year (if you're wanting that) while only paying about half of its cost, spread out and without interest. Sometimes carriers offer something similar, but that depends on the Pixels being available at every carrier this year etc.... but offering it direct from the Google Store with those parameters would be a nice step forward for adoption.

I have an old Nexus 6 and it has served me well, but I am considering an upgrade - to what, I'm not sure yet. Pixels are certainly on my list, though the next "Essential" device might be worth it. Ultimately I want to see if the Pixel 2 XL is as friendly as Nexus devices were to custom ROMs; I admit I'm a bit pissed watching Google divorce their functionality from the original Android Open Source Program - it would be nice if they added more of these features AOSP compliant. If things look promising, then a "black and white panda" Pixel 2 XL may be in my future (if I can get over that annoying orange power button).

No headphone jack means a whole lotta nope from me. I'll stick with my Pixel XL until something better comes along with a headphone jack.

Ditto. No headphones jack = no sale. Pity to because I was actually seriously interested in it as it has just about everything else I'd want. But I'm not shelling out for a phone then shelling out another 100+ for earbuds I don't really need.

Sticking with good ol' Shamu for now.

Sure, the lack of a headphone jack is a non-starter (I use my phone for music in the garage, in the car, and all sorts of other places that need an 1/8" jack), but what's the word on wireless charging? I'm still holding onto my Nexus 6 because wireless charging seems to have gone away in the Google line of phones. To me, it's easily the best convenience feature to come to smartphones in many years.

Good point - if wireless charging is missing, LG V30 will win my $$ -> Headphone jack, wireless charging, HQ dual cameras, Quad DAC, and SD. Guess we'll find out on Wednesday.

If only you could get it with stock Android and not have to wait for LG to (maybe) release updates.

This x1000! And if they allow an upgrade to Oreo, does that mean it will be Project Treble capable? Haven't done much research on it but it seems like a cool tech and something I definitely want in a new phone.
