PlayStation Boss Sees Limited Potential for Handheld Gaming

I really enjoy(ed) the Vita and the PSP. I don't think they were flawed hardware-wise, they just didn't have the right kind of software support. Well, that and they were significantly more expensive than Nintendo's offerings. It felt like Sony really only went after hardcore gamers and I think that audience IS pretty limited for portables.

$119.99 for proprietary 32GB cards couldn't have helped, huh Sony?

I bought the Vita. The hardware for the time was superb. The screen was superb.

The touch/track pad in the back was awkward, and while Vita fans swear that the device has a large catalogue of games, how many of them were worth playing? I remember getting a few PS1 games, the Uncharted game, and Crisis Core. Aside from that, I can't remember a title that sticks out.

That handheld had so much potential, just like the PSP. At least the PSP's potential was realized with custom firmware. Last I checked, the Vita was still locked down.

They've done a moderate amount of getting into the vita, but it requires firmware 3.60 & there's no way to downgrade a unit back to that from a higher firmware. Also games made after the 3.60 firmware won't run on the older, so anything newer basically can't run on your custom firmware machine. On the upside there has also been some progress made on microsd adapters. 1 that goes into PS1000 that was 3G unit & others that go into gamecard slot. Sadly both still require the 3.60 custom firmware, so strictly legit Vita owners are still out in the cold
