Which one?
I don't mind the hijack. It's all useful info.
Unfortunately, I got hit with a lot of unexpected bills this month, so the build is still on hold. I may get the motherboard and water block so I can start laying out my hard lines, then maybe the GPU next month.

Thanks. I was involved in a hit & run in my RV, and in order to get the repairs started faster, I have to pay for them out of pocket. Otherwise, I have to wait for the insurance company to approve things before parts are even ordered. Since a side window was smashed, leaving a gaping hole in my RV, and I live in a place that gets rain pretty frequently, I elected to have it fixed sooner.
But any donations in the form of Amazon or Newegg gift cards will be gladly accepted! ;-)
2. I have no idea if GPU passthrough works or not because I havent tried and not many are going to try this. VMs are cool but who the F passes through a GPU anyways since you can only pass it to literally ONE vm.
Nice update. I ran into some issues on my build which after doing a re-install of the CPU and waterblock using a torque wrench they all went away. Specifically, I was getting the 32gb present but 8GB hardware reserved bug seen on almost every X399 mobo manufacturer's forum. The issue from my experience is be careful when tightening down the waterblock on these CPU's. I went to 60in/lbs and it's been rock solid since.
What block did you use? One w/o springs I take it? With a spring loaded mount, you don't have to worry about force since its locked into the spring choice for you.
For the price and performance it made sense. Buying from the USA website got me one two days after I ordered.
That's a massive block with a very large fin area so I bet it does an excellent job. That said TR is actually quite easy to cool in a custom loop.
I'd expect so, it's doing well in my bullshit loop. 30C idle and 69C loads now that the ambient temp in my house has gone down a bit. This is at 4Ghz.
69c at load suggests you might be slightly radiator area limited, though 69c is quite livable.
Good for you! Glad everything worked out with the RV. Looking forward to seeing how your new build goes.I know it's been a little while, but I have an update! Got the RV back, all fixed up. Finally got reimbursed for everything I shelled out for out of pocket. Last night, Newegg had the Gigabyte x399 board and the Threadripper 1950X on sale for a price I couldn't say no to, so I ordered it! It was about $230 off! I also ordered the XSPC water block from Amazon ($30 less than Newegg). Now I'm just waiting for a watercooled 1080 Ti video card to go on sale...
Yeah, what he said!Make sure to post pics when you get it up and running!
