So a buddy duped me into replacing the blu ray drive on his xbox one. I thought everything went well but of course I ran into a problem. To be clear, it's brand new drive, never been used. But the circuit board on the blu ray drive and the motherboard on the console are married together. So I swapped the old circuit board to the new drive and soldered the power leads to the circuit board exactly as it was on the old drive. I can insert a disk and it'll feed in and eject back out. The laser tray will move back and forth a bit and the laser fires trying to read, but the disk will not spin up.

Anyone have any experience with this? Is one of my three ribbon cables not seated properly? Are the power leads not soldered right? I'm out of ideas.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, or if this is in the wrong forum could a mod put it where it'd be more appropriate? Thanks!

Maybe it was the original circuit board that failed on the original drive?

what was the issue with the original drive?

On the original drive the disks would grind while spinning. One of the plastic pieces on the top weren't moving into position completely anymore.

Yes. For this to happen you have to have a cable either crimped or incorrectly installed.

The motor you resoldered, and mind you I haven't changed one in months, moves the rail system for the eye. So if the eye is moving back and forth, that's good. If the eye isn't working it will return nothing to the controller and therefore will not spin up. So, either the new drive has a bad eye assembly or the cabling is incorrectly installed.

I should be clearer. When inserted the motor will move the eye into place. If the eye then detects no disc, it will prevent the disc from spinning.

Bad eye or cable install.

Edit: move the eye from the old drive if it was just grinding them. The eye is likely fine. It's a pretty simple job iirc.
