World of Warships Enters Open Beta!

Play destroyers tomorrow.

Also, new destroyer high damage score for me. I got pinned at the end where I couldn't hit the flank of a Montana and Moskva sitting in the middle because a Zao was patrolling where I needed to go. That and there were a shit ton of floatplanes. Really could have done a lot more, sadly

Welcome to BB play in WoWs. It's a crying fucking shame.

There are a few you HAVE to play as snipers. I'm finding the Nelson is one of them. It's too squishy to Yolo with.

Do you think the Nelson has great disperstion or is it just the positioning of the 3 turrets group better? Having been on the receiving end I think they are cruiser killers.

It depends on the gun and the position. Don't really have a thought on that yet.

I'll tell you this. When it comes to the Queen Elizebeth, don't waste any captains points, flags or options on Fire protection because they don't work. And you may as well just take your Bic lighter and set the bitch on fire at the beginning of the match (npi) and be done with it. God Damn I've never seen a ship love to be on fire like this thing does.

I free XP'd my way up to T6. Looks like I need to XP my way up one or two more....

The King George plays WAY better than the QE imho, and doesn't seem as willing to go ablaze.

Getting better with the Nelson. I'd call it a mid range Brawler. It's too ticklish to go yoloing with.

While it's armor isn't the greatest nose in, it is perfect at angle.

The thing is, the guns are so lethal, you should be able to kill just about anything up close, apart from a German BB, US or Japanese should both get creamed. and if you angle right, you can bounce a lot of their shells.

The Iron Duke is funny as hell with the HE spam :p

The George is where the line starts to shine. Its excellent.

Nelson is cool, but all the hype of the heal is off because the ship takes dmg so fast you never get to use it.,

On the Nelson, do you find the He guns better than the Ap guns ?

I find both are good, I was hitting an Iowa for 10-12K with AP, and 6-8K with HE (+ setting fires). I citadell cruisers nose in with AP as well.

I know Neo was getting HE citadells on light cruisers with the King George

you would think killer whale is the hardest mission ever based on these smacktards this weekend.

KVG took me 18 games after modules....that ship is fucking insane.
Fires per game in the range of 14 to an insane 29....at T7, that's bullshit crazy. A T7 zao with. 12k HE salvo

Nerf hammer will surely come
Thing is, the HE is all they got. The heal is fine, but AP murders these things. I was in my NC and rolled into a monarch and two KVGs at 15km and I cut them to pieces. If they nerf the HE, they need to do something else.

I mean ya have to use the HE because the AP is trash. Everyone was talking fuse timers but it matters for nothing if your smaller caliber guns can't pen.

If the HE is to remain this strong, then the citadels need to be more exposed,

not a huge fan of the monarch.

KGV, good?

It's the worst battleship I've ever played. It beats the old Colorado by miles. Legitimately the worst dispersion I can fucking imagine---and it's consistently bad! But hey, you know what's even better? It's the same fucking problem at Tier 9 with the Lion! It took me all the way until the fucking Lion at Tier 9 to get an HE citadel and I managed that at 17km against a Charles Martel. I've done broadside HE salvos against british cruisers, IJN cruisers, etc from 5km and under and nothing.

Here's the fun part: I removed the accuracy module on the KGV and my hit rate immediately improved. It was 20% after 9 matches. I'm about to do the same with the Lion. I think there's an actual problem with the module's interaction with at least the stats of the KGV and possibly the Lion as well somewhere. I had shells on a particular salvo last night in the Lion deviate at least a hundred meters to the right immediately after I fired. They slightly curved away from the target while the rest of the shells more or less went where they should. I've never seen that.

The Monarch is a much, much more consistent ship than either the KGV or Lion. The best match I've had thus far in terms of damage with the RNBBs was my first Monarch match. The problem is I feel shoe-horned into playing how WG wants me to play instead of playing the way I actually should. And that difference seems to grow with each patch.

Here are my RNBB stats laid bare for you guys to consider. Pay attention to Main Battery Hit % (MBH) and notice the issues with average damage.
tYqNzs5.jpg

There's the obvious connection between MBH% and average damage. My MBH% for battleships is globally above 31% and weighed down by a few ships in the past, lol. If I can manage a goddamn 34% hit ratio with the Warspite, 31% with the NC (damn the old stats) and 31% in something like an Ishizuchi, all of which have horribly, horribly slow shells, what the fuck is the problem here? It isn't target lead, it's dispersion. Shit, the Gneisenau with it's laughably bad dispersion (on which I don't use the dispersion module) is my highest hit rate at 36%.

Also, just to turn the wheels a bit more on this: the KGV and Lion are truly and utterly different ships...in the training room. I've played both multiple times and it's hilarious because they actually seem like the ships everyone says they are.

KVG accuracy seemed alright for me. Either all over, or super tight. My KVG numbers for MBH and DMG are about the same as your monarch. The shell velocity between the 7 and 8 are enough that it may be the issue your having?
Monarch really feels the reduced fire chance, and the range is trash.

Not a great game; as when Kami and I rammed, I had most of my health and he was near dead, but everyone loves a ram and if he survived, I didn't trust my team to beat him. Anyways, 6 kills on each team doesnt happen often. GG

It appears as if south americans have invaded this like they have WoT, sad. Still dunno why WG won't just give them their own server so they aren't fucking up teams with the 400+ ping.

Salty. 0-5 so far tonight.

Ouch. I would have thought latency would be a wee bit less important in this game, but 400+ is still wild.

Monarch done.
Was alright. Its AP wasnt great, its dispersion felt poor. I wanted to play it like the rest of the line, like the KVG HE monster, but its absolutely not. Its guns are closer to Warspite, and thats not a bad thing, but when you see T9/10, they struggle really bad....And they lack the super tight groupings as the warspite. Citadels were few and far between. The concealment really helps.
Either way, I burned through the Monarch in 22 games(I free XPed the modules). That seems like very few, but I stacked flags like a motherfucker and brought my A-game for some outrageous games. My highest Dmg was only 209k, but my avg was T10 range. I think this benefits from shitty weekend players.
22 games, 64% WR, 124k Avg Dmg, 2,461 Avg XP, 1,886 WTR.

Lion first impressions. I originally built as an semi AA platform. AA upgrade over accuracy with AFT. I didnt have MFAA, but still, it really struggled o kill planes and it really needs the accuracy. My first game landed me only 2 fires and sub 70k dmg. Removed the AA and put on accuracy and dmg is way up and fires are back inthe double digits.

a bit off topic here, but as I may be doing the backstroke this weekend, wish me luck.

(I live in SW florida)

Lived in Cape Coral/N. Fort Myers for years as well as other parts. Still have a few friends down there and elsewhere in Florida. Learned quite a bit studying meteorology as a hobby after going through Andrew and the train of Charley/Frances/Jeanne/Ivan/Dennis/Katrina/Wilma as I experienced them directly to varying degrees of intensity.

It's legendary in intensity at the moment but how long it stays that way is only half of the question. A small jog to the NW and it's heading right to Miami. Otherwise, if it stays on course, it should barely clear Puerto Rico and roll right over the keys before it takes that turn north. This is a pretty goddamn scary scneario.

Just...goddamn. Keep us updated if you're evacuating or even have the chance to. The Houston pipeline only reopened today and that supplies the southeast with up to 40% of the gasoline it uses. The timing on this is so incredibly dangerous.

yeah the computer models are having a hard time trying to figure out where this storms going.. the weird south west track it took before the leeward islands threw them off big time.. most of the models were showing it taking a hard N NE track before reaching cuba then everything changed. most of the models still think it's going to stay on the east side of florida though so we'll see what it looks like when it reaches cuba.

as of right now, my personal plans are to stick it out, HOWEVER, I will be evacuating if it does shift to the western paths they have shown in the past.

Talked to my boss today (not the wife, the one who signs the paychecks, who is a snowbird and in michigan right now), he has already paid me (usually on friday), as well as told me to close up the shop starting tomorrow (thursday). even has told me to pull all the cash from the store (which isnt much, we keep very little on hand), to help if I need to evacuate. we would just square everything up later once life returns to a non-aquatic friendly version.

I'm thinking of being an idiot and flying from complete safety in the midwest to ft lauderdale tomorrow morning..GF lives there, needs some help getting the house ready..and then dragging her off somewhere else because she is adamant on staying..(she is 500 yards from the beach 20 minutes north of FLL).

Conqueror is a fucking lazerbeam. I thought the 457mm guns were good with their 2.0 sigma + accuracy module but nah man, fuck that, the 419mm with the accuracy module is goddamn ludicrous despite being "1.8 sigma" which is a load of shit.

I had a Cong trying to AP my lion for a whole game last night. He couldnt do shit. Does it have standard AP pen angles?

As far as I'm aware. I'd be surprised (but not really) if they gave it short fuse AP + improved normalization.

Holy fuck the Conqueror is bullshit.
1st game, 250k, 4 kills, 90 shell hits, 4 HE citadels, 14 fires. I had witherer in 6min. Ended the match with 90% health. I only had 2 enemy BBs on my side of the map to shoot at, but give me more, and I would have smashed 300k with little effort. Its dispersion is Zao-like.
This might be the most OP ship in the game. If anything, bow taking BBs gotta get moving,.

They either gotta raise its citadel, reduce its range(or atleast buff the Kurfusts range), or give it standard 1/6 HE pen.

But, even playing the Montana with HE would result in something similar wouldn't it ? or does it not have as much HE pen

It sounds like you work for an AWESOME small family owned business like I did from 1992 to 1998. Man I miss those people. They treated me like family and I felt the same about them. I was the only non-family person, ever, to have keys and the alarm codes to the store. One of those little trust things you really appreciate.

I donno, the dispersion and rate of fire add aswell. Having more range than Montana and able to fit the reload mod...out of 60 hits, I had only 8 non pens

I found the AP on the Monarch to be excellent, I'm regularly doing 10-15k salvos on other T8 BBs.

i didnt use Ap until I was almost done, I totally didnt read that it had the same guns as the warspite. None of the T7-T10 feel like battleships though, the lion perhaps, but the rest feel like cruisers, despite some great tanking ability.

The Conq needs a nerf...after I have it for a few months to hit the leaderboards. It can keep the fires, I think it needs to have the same HE pen as everyone else. 1/4 is too much. I shouldnt be able to drop 15k HE salvos on an angled yamato at 24km and not have a single break or shatter. They could also give it a longer gun spotting flare so it cant vanish between salvos. What is it? 20 seconds? make it 30s everytime it fires. Or a simple range reduction. with its speed, a kurfust has no counter, even a montana struggles to reach it. Force the Conq to get in closer. The Lion, Monarch and KVG all had less range than the other nations.

While it can it won't happen anywhere near as regularly as with the Conqueror. The Conqueror has 105mm of HE shell pen with the 419s, 114mm with the 457. The Montana has 67.7mm and Yamato has 76.7mm. If you want a good laugh load up IFHE (lol) and have 32.5% HE shell pen to up the values to 136 and 148mm. That's goddamn crazy.

Haven't even logged in to ships in a few months, maybe I'll get on and start grinding the RN battlewagons. I could give a shit less about the balance because I only bother to play co-op anyways these days. I get more than enough PVP stress from World of Tanks which is much more fun and engaging.

Has "PR" officially replaced the old rating system at the World of Warships stats site?

You know, the #1 thing I am going to recommend to beginning players is DAMAGE RULES. Kills Don't mean shit, and WINS are the GOAL!

The worst thing I could have ever done is come in during the open beta with the utterly wrong fucking attitude. Rush in, Yolo to the max and BLOW SHIT UP !!!! If I die, exit out quick and jump into the next ship without sitting and watching the strategy unfold instead and learning from it.

Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

A LOT

My first 2000 games buried me so fucking deep in the hole I'm not entirely sure it would be possible to dig out any time soon.

My WR is 47.89%, though I play better than that.

I wish they would allow a 1 time reset. Kind of like clearing out the garage. That way you cold wipe out your Tomato days and have your scores more reflective of your current skills.

Id like to join a clan but with a 47.9 W/R that's going to be hard.

I should start one of my own. "WOWPWKFGIN"

I'm not saying I'm a 60% player. Hell no. But I think my recent play should put me in the 53-57% range.

Its not too hard with that low of battle count, I play like I'm drunk and still manage to keep my overall over 64%. I go for objectives like theyre made of solid gold lol.
