I'm thinking about buying a new 16:9 27" monitor but was also looking at the curved ones too. Not sure if it's worth it or not. I don't want to buy something where in a couple of years it dies out like 3D TV's did. I'd be using it mostly just for gaming and sitting at arms length about by the way.

By the way my question pertains only to 16:9 monitors I could definitely see it being a standard for 21:9 monitors.

Just for gaming it's cool and internet browsing feel more comfortable. Do get it. Do not get it for photo editing or serious document work.

It would be mostly for gaming no work. But I hate buying into fads though, and I'm not sure if this is one or not.

Not for a 27" it's not big enough to make the curve worthwhile. If you want curved, the 34" might look ok, I haven't seen it, but the 48" is awesome. On a 27" though definitely no it doesn't look good IMO.

At 27" the wrapping effect of a curved monitor is negligible, and in my opinion, the curve just adds even MORE distortion to the image, especially if you're not looking at it dead on, then either the top or the bottom looks more curved than the other, and the curve exacerbates the perceived foreshortening of either side.

Or maybe it's just my OCD  , go see one on display in person.

Currently trying out a C27FG70, and the curve feels very natural.
Would I recommend a curved monitor at 27" in particular? Not really - perhaps it is more beneficial at larger sizes, but at 27" you should just get the monitor you want. The curve is definitely a non-issue for me personally considering the advantages of the C27FG70 over other 27" 1080p 144hz monitors

Nice. I am also looking at it... how does it compares to other Va monitor when considering ghosting? How it compares to other panels at all and how is Your 970 driving it's 144hz considering this monitor does not have gsync

Even though I'm used to the motion performance of a CRT, I don't mind the response times of modern VA panels. If anything, the CRT makes me allergic to bad blacks, so I'd rather have the image quality of VA than a faster response time.
Samsung's new 144hz ones are the fastest VAs though, especially with the black transitions, and I'm very satisfied with it. The overdrive is good and I have detected no purple overdrive problems on this recently produced unit.
The strobing modes are a good addition to this monitor as well, for that superior low persistence motion performance. You lose Freesync, admittedly, but that isn't too bad a tradeoff considering this makes the CFG70 series both very good for general use and very capable in fast shooters and how TN and IPS models must also sacrifice adaptive sync for strobing. Along with the factory calibration, qdot + decent SRGB mode, and good OSD + customizable mode buttons, it makes the Samsung stand out from the other monitors produced with this panel (Asus are making one with a strobing mode as well though).

Personally I don't care at all about G-Sync. Tearing is just the worst at 60hz, but a high refresh rate minimizes the tearing problem greatly - and since all G-Sync monitors are high refresh rate except for a handful of very expensive 4K ones, I don't see the point in paying a markup or waiting for the CFG75. But I was waiting for Vega anyway, for that free adaptive sync, so I'm biased

If you get one, I would recommend that you adjust the "black equalizer" to 20 (off). It doesn't look bad at default, but it kills the image depth somewhat

Thanks fore reply Mokkat ! I am now even more interested in those samsung screens.
Your point about enabling low persistance (ulmb on gsync monitors) which disables sync anyway is a very good one. Probably if I got gsync monitor I would not use it, because of ulmb anyway...

That samsung is probably the only screen capable of running faster than my iiyama and having better picture quality.
How do You feel about 1080p at 27 inch? There is also 24'' version of the same screen and I think version 73 have new stand

You just repeated yourself.

*why* not?
Because it distorts the photos and documents that you know are flat. In gaming it is nice, in browsing the curvature actually helps because the edge are curved and are closer to the eye, especially when viewing from an angle. Photos look too unnatural. Docs to a seller extent, but still also look unnatural. It is unpleasant to work with documents and text on a curved monitor, because you have to keep telling your brain that the curved doc you see is okay. Going back to a flat screen in such situation feels like a relief. Games, on the other hand, feel nice, the curvature is definitely an entertainment feature.
